 Tell me how good it is when you listen to it! I'm not going to download anything from it...I'm just going to buy it when it comes out.

Tapeworm 09-29-2004 07:02 AM

Sames. October = best month ever.
a few bands i'ev been diggin recently:

My Red Cell
Hell yeah muthamutha!!!

shatteredfan 09-29-2004 08:54 AM

here's what I've been diggin lately

Lately, I've been listening to lots of 90's stuff. Temple of the Dog, Weezer, Garbage, and of course the classic nineties staple Nirvana.
As far as new stuff, I'm lovin the truant album from Alien Ant Farm, the brand new Papa Roach tune, and there is a local indie band from my area called Shattered Core. They have a really unique sound, sort of Gwen Stefani meets Foo Fighters?!Anyways, my favorite songs of theirs are
Find the Way
Feel Me
To hear these guys check out their website @www.shatteredcore.com
:thumb:
Ok so heres a semi-new idea for a thread. Basically, you just post what ever song, album or artist you have really been liking at the moment. If it's a new band you could put a little bit about them, good songs etc...

So if this works well enough, we could maybe get it sticky'd ( Nacho? ).

Well, a cool new(ish) band I've been listening to alot lately is These Arms Are Snakes . They are a post-hardcore,art punky band who have one EP out called This is Mean to Hurt You.

Good songs to check out would be:

The Blue Rose
Drinking From the Necks of Loved Ones
Run it Through the Dog
Riding the Grape Dragon

---------------------------------------

I have been listening to Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps alot lately and have come to the conclusion that it is my favourite Neil Young album. Definately check it out!

---------------------------------------

Television - Friction is one incredible song. Ahead of it's time.

If you guys think this is a shitty idea for a thread just say so. If not, update with new stuff whenever you feel the need.
I'm listening to it now, I have yet to form an opinion of it though. (FYI: I'll probably be buying it as well, if I like it that is).

sweboy 09-29-2004 01:39 PM

I just checked out The Flaming Lips. Looks good. Skatalites are pretty hot these days, aswell as Looptroop and Against Me.

EDIT: Oh snap, 9000th post!

:chug:

rescyou. 09-29-2004 01:40 PM

ok, as i can't make a thread yet, (the whole one day thing) i'm gonna suggest a band, that some people might be interested in.

telefontelaviv

have a listen, come back, criticise, or complement on the band. the website is very very sexy, and the music is quite inspiring.

enjoy.

The Arcade Fire - "Funeral"
It's a great album, the hype makes you think it's going to be the voice of God... but don't get me wrong, it's still pretty **** good. There's also a lot of talk of it being the best album of the year, but only after my first listen I don't see it toppling Blueberry Boat for me, but we'll see. One listen isn't nearly enough to make a call like that anyway.

Tangy zizzle 09-29-2004 04:56 PM

Yeah I like Funeral aswell, but I can't see it as album of the year. It's a very cool record though.

CommieCanada 09-29-2004 04:57 PM

i have been listening to the new(est) Dashboard Confessional album. decent tunes

thatoneguy587 09-29-2004 07:20 PM

I checked out Afghan Wings today. They are awesome. I just tried to vote for them in the top 100 thing but I missed the chance, as it closed. :(

Afghan Whigs.

Tapeworm 09-29-2004 09:20 PM

Haha, that's strange. I always thought it was wings, even after i had the album.

Tangy zizzle 09-29-2004 09:26 PM

Hehe. :)

Interpol - Antics (LP)
It's seems very good, a nice gradual progression without staying too close to their success on Turn on the Bright Lights. I'm impressed with how they handled the expectations/pre-hype. This solid sophomore effort allows me to believe that Interpol will be producing great music for at least a few more albums...

Wouldn't have made a difference anyway. :p

By the way - YES! A CONVERT!!

Agreed. It's strange the amount of importance placed on second albums right now. The Strokes, The Vines, Interpol, even Coldplay - they seem to be living and dying by their second albums.
Agreed. It's strange the amount of importance placed on second albums right now. The Strokes, The Vines, Interpol, even Coldplay - they seem to be living and dying by their second albums.
According to one of my "rock & roll elitest" friends, Coldplay's third album is going to be "the biggest thing since The Beatles".

Jimmy_The_Exploder 09-30-2004 01:19 PM

Yeh i agree - second album's seem to be the big decider these days. I reckon its because there were so many solid debuts appearing around 2000 to 2002. They all seemed so full of energy and youth (ie, the vines, interpol, kings of leon, the libertines, the strokes, etc) and I think people are expecting them to keep on creating 'virulent' music (when the bands are wanting to progress to a more mature sound).

But the new interpol album is fantatsic, they have really progressed (they sound more like an early cure or U2 now instead of joy division) and they've made a lot more use of their intruments this time (lots of weird feedback effects and such). I just wish it would have happened with the vines, because their second album was a major disappointment :upset:

Tangy zizzle 09-30-2004 03:25 PM

People (not just here, but critics and commentators) seem to be lumping Interpol in with all these other bands like the Strokes, The Hives, Coldplay etc... I don't like it personally. I mean, Interpol are a phenomenal band but I don't see the reason to lump them with these others.

Cry cry cry.

Tomahawk 09-30-2004 10:07 PM

Well... none of them are very original.

But other than that, they don't sound alike, no.

Little Man being Erased 09-30-2004 11:50 PM

I also, have been diggin' Interpol's new record Antics. I have been looking forward to it for so long and it hasn't disappointed. I've listened to it a fair bit already and I think its getting better with each listen. Now I just can't wait until they come back to Australia for a tour.

br3ad_man 10-01-2004 12:52 AM

Theyre a big rumour for Big Day Out. Lets hope they do it.

Happymeal 10-01-2004 04:38 AM

Can someone introduce me to Tomahawk and Fantomas? I'm still a stranger to Patton, really.

I'm waiting for the Team Sleep album to come out:p

sugar kane 10-01-2004 04:40 AM

i've been diggin; pedro the lion and bright eyes.

i heard my brother playing the new interpol the other day, it sounded awesome. i should give it a spin sometime.

CommieCanada 10-01-2004 06:47 AM

Refused's The Shape of Punk To Come has been on repeat the last few days

Tapeworm 10-01-2004 07:38 PM
Theyre a big rumour for Big Day Out. Lets hope they do it.
And if so, let's hope they play a sideshow in Brissy.

I've been heavily digging The Cure and Modest Mouse.

Happymeal 10-01-2004 07:38 PM

I'm rediscovering Frou Frou and Turin Brakes.

Little Man being Erased 10-01-2004 11:01 PM
Theyre a big rumour for Big Day Out. Lets hope they do it.
Yes, that would be pleasant. And as Tapeworm said, a sideshow would be even better.

Tomahawk 10-02-2004 01:06 AM
Can someone introduce me to Tomahawk and Fantomas? I'm still a stranger to Patton, really.
If you're just getting into Patton related stuff, then Faith No More and Mr Bungle are much better than Tomahawk and Fantomas. But...

Tomahawk songs:
Rape This Day
Laredo
Mayday
Birdsong
When the Stars Begin to Fall
God Hates a Coward

Fantomas songs:
Page 19
Page 9
Experiment in Terror
Charade
Rosemary's Baby

Happymeal 10-02-2004 05:23 AM

Thanks man. I think I've heard Faith No More when I was still 10, but I never really paid much attention to them. I'll check the other two out too.

br3ad_man 10-02-2004 06:01 AM

My favourite Patton project is Fantomas. Get the ones Tomahawk said plus "The Godfather" and "Page 29". I have 3 FNM albums I think they are waaayyy overrated, I don't see whats so amazing about them.

Dark Hero 10-02-2004 10:57 AM

A band called Cherry Poppin' Daddies.

pixiesfanyo 10-02-2004 12:12 PM

Circle Takes the Square.

Iai 10-02-2004 12:39 PM
I have 3 FNM albums I think they are waaayyy overrated, I don't see whats so amazing about them.
Which ones? Album of The Year and King For A Day are pretty over-rated by the Pattonheads.

Iai 10-02-2004 12:40 PM

And by the way, I've been digging Asian Dub Foundation lately. Wayyyy overlooked band.

Happymeal 10-02-2004 03:51 PM

^I liked them a while back. They're trippy fast and cool. I rarely listen to them nowadays though..

I finally bought Loveless by the way. Awesome.
