ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
dude, i fill the same way. one of the first bands i can remember ever listening to is Kiss. one of the first songs i learned on guitar was i wanna rock and roll all night by kiss. at the moment i am listening to ac/dc, i just think classic rock has so much passion instead of this rap crap. it actually takes time and dedication to play these songs.

stand and deliver! 05-27-2004 10:08 AM

i love classic rock like led zeppelin cream and the rolling stones
but i hate this whole ironic retro rock that has reared it's ugly head

RadKeysPlayer 05-27-2004 10:10 AM

I'm not a huge retro rock fan either. I think the majority of it is crap. Long live the classics. I'd like a new sound to blend in with classic rock, kinda like how the synth accompanied rock artist in the 80s

Badmoon 05-27-2004 01:48 PM

What you need to be a good classic rock band - Influence and a lot of it

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-27-2004 01:49 PM

what are your guys opinions on Bill Wyman as a bassiest in The Rolling Stones and his songwriting skills as a solo artist?

Badmoon 05-27-2004 03:22 PM

^I find that he is a solid bassist, and a pretty good songwriter. Kind of a pervert, but come on! Who isn't these days.

sheenaisapunkrocker 05-27-2004 03:24 PM

yea hes a cool bassist but not heard any of his solo stuff

Well, I certainly hope classic rock is coming back....
I can't stand to turn on the radio today and hear all this punk, emo, and other crap....Why don't they just keep it simple? With all these worthless genres...
I also think music has a lack of talent these days. Like that all that worthless screaming (The worst song ever i heard with screaming is a LP song where the guy screamed "Shut UP" like 20 times) and bad guitar riffs and solos.

I hope I can do my part in reviving classic rock. Me and my cousin have formed a classic rock band hoping to revive classic rock in our area. BTW if you have any experience with this or just have any advice plz email me at tylermart@sw.rr.com...

Gather around kids, Badmoon will now speak his thoughts...

You don't want a Classic Rock revival band. You want a band that inbodies something similar to the bands from the 60's to the 70's. Classic Rock revival is cheesy, it's wannabe like, and it's trying to label yourself so you get people to listen. Plus it is now a stereo type. You should make decisions like, let me give an example. We all said that The Black Crowes resembled a Classic Rock band more than any other. Well, The Black Crowes were not trying to revive anything. They were just playing some what they felt, and that usually was Blues Rock songs, that you can (probably because of influence) easily compare to The Rolling Stones. They had everything an early 70's group had. Dual guitars, rangy vocalist, organ, and a good solid bassist and drummer. So, what I'm trying to say is, don't try to change the world (Unless your a folk band), just try to do what you feel is right, and try to be unique, and try to set the standards. Your influence will bring you to what you want. So, just shut up and play your music.

BludgeonySteve 05-27-2004 06:24 PM

^There are still some bands like that. Just none in the mainstream. Back when Zeppelin, pink floyd, Eric Clapton, Hendrix and all of those other well known bands were in the mainstream it was easy to get into it. But now since kids don't like that kind of stuff all of the rock and roll bands are unknown. The Black Crowes are a well known classic rock band. So are The Darkness but they suck.

It'd Be great to change the music scene. But your right, that the way to go about it is not to be a "classic rock revival band" It's just to go out there and play whatever the hell you like (which admittedly for us shall be largely classic rock influenced) and if you're lucky people will catch on.

Well, with a lot of new clans starting up I think their should be a classic rock clan. If there is already one, please tell me, if there isn't then is anyone interested in starting one up?

We're called the fathers of time. I'm not sure if we're accepting anybody new. We will see.

Badmoon 05-27-2004 09:34 PM

Well, why isn't Rock and Roll in it, he's a vet to this thread.

P.s. I'm trying to fit the old F.O.T. logo into a new avatar I'm making. Just to show I have not abandoned the brotherhood.

Ozzyrocks4 05-27-2004 09:35 PM

holy sh!t im obsessed with almost all classic rock its like all i listen to.....not to be closed-minded or anything but....in general they had a lot more talent and songwriting than many of the new bands of today....like nu-metal and rap and pop and emo....like none of that sh*t requires talent (well, to a certain extent it does) but nowhere near the amount that classic rock did... most classic rock has an awesome "feel" to the song too, like my fave band AC/DC, for example, most of their songs have kickass-sounding solos in them with a lot of feel in them and angus is a f***ing maniac on guitar!.....or van halen(gunna see them in toronto on july 3!!!!!)..... they made just bizarre songs....some of those solos r crazy! but like a lot of new songs dont even have solos in them! its not all about the solos, either. Like most classic rock songs have clever, catchy, powerful riffs in them that make you fall in love with the song.... if you listen to a new music radio station and hear like good charlotte or something like that....like.... there are exceptions, but most of them are almost completely talentless! .....this is all my opinion so plz dont like....freak out lol peace

Badmoon 05-27-2004 09:45 PM

I was just listening to Yes, and I came to the conclusion that Steve Howe is one of the most underrated guitarist ever. I mean he gets credit, but definatley not enough. He is one hell of a beautiful player (musically, not physically).

Okay, let's do this. Post your top 10 fav C.R. guitarists, being that I have brought up Steve Howe, who is a guitarist.

Not in any order

Guitarists
--------------
Jerry Garcia
Steve Howe
Frank Zappa
Stephen Stills
Duane Allman
Ry Cooder
Robert Fripp
Pete Townshend
George Harrison
Robby Krieger

Earlier in this forum there was a comment on the kind of revival (too strong a word, but for lack of a better) of the Classic rock. Well, I must say that I've noticed that too. Every other guitarist I know loves classic. Well ya, there are some idiots who worship the contemporary metal and crap like that, but for the most part, all classic. Personally, my fav bands include: Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beatles, and much, much more :D.

I'm not sure whether this question was posted earlier or not, since I'm a new member, but who do you guys think was the top guitarist of that era? I think Page...

I think the reason most guitarists like classic is because they apreciate the creativity and awsome instrumentals, since they've familiarized themselves with the skill it takes to write and play songs. Some new music is creative and awsome, but not quite like classic rock. Jimi Hendrix was a God :thumb:

newmusicsucks 05-27-2004 10:48 PM

For those who hate classic rock, here is a question. How many of the bands/artists that have emerged since 2000, that still have a carreer, will be remember in 30 or 40 years? Now think about the overwhelming number of bands that are remembered today by so many people. Rap/emo/punk/pop/everything not rock can kiss my *** for hating.

GarinStone 05-27-2004 10:51 PM

Since 2000 i don't think any. I think RHCP and Smashing Pumpkins and Incubus, maybe a couple others will be remembered that long, but Linkin Park and Korn aren't gonna get airplay in 40 years the way Zeppelin (ok 30 years) is.

-=The_Dude=- 05-27-2004 10:54 PM

I wish i lived in the 60's. It was all about the music then.

On The Edge 05-28-2004 04:25 AM

Sorry for my absence, i was accidently banned (i think).

I havent really heard much talk about the eagles. A great band- good songs include: Hotel California, Life in the fast lane and Heartache Tonight

As for other classic rock lets go down under with Australian Crawl. If you haven't heard any of there songs, there worth checking out. Reccomended songs: Land Down Under and The Boys light up.

Also check out Franz Ferninand (sp?). Not entirely Classic rock, but a catchy guitar riff (All goes to bring instrument orientated music into mainstream)

Over and Out, dave
