Syd, was such a musical genius, no one else in his time created work like he did, no music to rival it. Wasting a perfect Mind.

Broken Arrow 01-14-2006 09:57 AM

Speaking of Syd has anyone seen either of these?

Anyone have Syd's Greatest hits? I am thinking I am going to buy it when I go to my local record store today.

David_Gilmour 01-14-2006 10:22 AM

i'm not really a huge fan of syd really, not compared to 'Dark Side' Floyd. I wasn't into the psychedelic stuff. I much prefer Water's lyrics and the music (thankyou David Gilmour)

Ephemeral 01-14-2006 10:46 AM

I quite liked the Syd Barret Floyd equally as much as all of their later albums.
Did he know there was acid in his beverage, or did they do it to **** with him?
I thought that he would put it in himself.

I remember them talking about how whenever he drank coffee, he would put LSD in it as well.

Waters wrote most of the music, too.

Deconstruction 01-14-2006 12:05 PM

I cannot stand when people only like on album, much less one song. That is how it is, I always manage to get "Omg liek your wearing a pInk Flued shirt, Do you like teh DaRk SiDe of teh MUn? Hows aBoUt Moneyz?

But it was Richard Wright who wrote the most beautiful in a musical kind of way(Gig in the sky, us and them, summer '68)

he's so underrated

No one talks in random capitilization in real life, so it's not acceptable in here.

Dragon Prince: True. The songs you named are some of Pink Floyd's best, but he really didn't write quite as much, so he can't really be as good since he wasn't as "consistent", I guess.

Deconstruction 01-14-2006 12:23 PM

Alright, I am just trying to make a point, all I am saying is that everyone it seems that goes to my school that "listens" to Pink Floyd thinks DSOTM is their first and only album. They have no clue about anything before that album, and worst of all they only know a song or two from that album. It just bugs the hell outa me.

I was just kiddin :p

I see what you're saying though. Rarely are people aware of a group or musician's work outside of a few popular songs or albums deemed 'classic' by the media. It doesn't always give people a chance to form their own opinions, so they go with the majority. For example, I really, really, don't think Sgt. Peppers is the best album ever, but for a while, I did just because that's what Rolling Stone or some shit said.

I generally try to tell people something like " There are other albums by Pink Floyd, you should try (insert album here) if you like this" Then they just ignore me.

I agree completely, and he's never shown on their filmed concerts.

Nooooooo. David Gilmour tickets sold out. They went on sale at noon, but I wasn't home. By the time I got home at like 1:30 they were all sold out. I'm pissed. I knew Gilmour was popular, but I didn't think tickets for him would sell out in an hour and a half.

:( That sucks dude. I wouldn't expect such a rapid sell out either. I hope I can get tickets, I have no idea when they go on sale though.

They went on presale December 20th, and then the rest went on sale today at noon. I should have gotten them when they were still on presale but I wasn't able to convince my mom to let me go until last night. (My mom hates Pink Floyd so it took some convincing). I would hope some more tickets will go on sale, but I think they're all gone:angry:

There's always the option of scalping tickets though. Especially for NY shows.

Mr. Black 01-14-2006 02:10 PM

I finished 'Inside Out' a few nights ago. It seems very unfair about what happened to syd.

Holy sh!t I'd shoot my brains out, I'd be so pissed.

And I'm guessing they aren't gonna produce anymore tickets.

BigTrav415 01-14-2006 05:04 PM

Gilly isn't coming anywhere near me :(

It seems most established acts wouldn't touch North Carolina with a 34 and a half foot pole :(

The only real "established" band I see on the list is Opeth, maybe I'll go see them for the heck of it, I've heard they are good.

EDIT-
np: Pigs (3 Different Ones)
I love this song so much now. Sheep used to be my favorite song off Animals, but Pigs is slowly takingits place. Dogs is great but is just too long to listen to enough. But there are more great solos in that song... it's just one big solo-fest with some great lyrics thrown in.

Are you a successful scalper? I imagine it would be hard to score tickets.

That's definintley my favorite song on Animals. The way the lyrics are presented, the upbeat tempo, emotion, even the cowbell just make it a real catchy song.

Yeah, those bastards who try to have a chat with you about a band you obviously like. They must be killed!
Yeah, those bastards who try to have a chat with you about a band you obviously like. They must be killed!
No, it goes something like this:
Stranger: Hey nice shirt, I like that band.
Me: Really, what is your favorite album?
Stranger: Dark Side of the Moon, yours?
Me: Piper at the Gates of Dawn, I just generally love Syd Barrett
Stranger: Who?
Me: Pink Floyd's original frontman.
Stranger:Oh, well whats your favorite song on Dark Side?
Me: Time, you?
Stranger: Oh, I don't know that one, but Money for sure.
Me: Ya that's a great song but eh. What do you think of Gilmour's playing?
Stranger: I don't know who that is...
Me: Do you know any other songs on DSOTM?
Stranger: Ya.
Me: Besides Money what is your favorite?
Stranger: I don't know...
Me: Alright later man.

Edit: True conversation, I just get fed up when people know only one song, and when they try and show that they don't know any others but won't say it.

Edit 2: By the way Riva, you own all of PF releases on Vinyl? Damn, I am still working towards that...
Are you a successful scalper? I imagine it would be hard to score tickets.
Never scalped tickets before. And I don't think most scalpers would give a good deal to a 17 year old. I'd probably get mugged. I can dream though. After all, NY is like the scalping capital of the world.

I always liked Pigs but then I heard a live version of Pigs like 6 months ago that was over 20 minutes long and I was just blown away. So since then I've been obsessed with it. I love the ha ha, charade you are line. And Gilmour's solo at the end is amazing. Animals is awesome.

You really shouldn't complain. They're trying to be friendly. Not everyone knows all aobut Pink Floyd. In fact, amazing enough, most non-guitarists aren't going to notice the guitar playing! Shocking, but true. They'll say "gee, that sounds good" but they won't say "wow, what a great guitarist." Just be happy that other people like good music.

What album was it off of?

Deconstruction: When people say thnigs like that, you should try and convert them. Give them some more info, and perhaps they'll soon become more serious fans.

nobodyblossomsforever 01-14-2006 10:17 PM

You'll think I'm posting this just to be funny, but I swear someone came up to me at lunch when I was wearing a PF shirt:

Kid: Dude, props on the Pink Floyd tee man
Me: Yea, they kick *** man
Kid: You know it
Me: So what's your favorite song?
Kid: You first
Me: Ok...I guess I'd have to say Echos. It's just such an enchanting song, the way that they are able to meld those sounds and effects into such a soothing...
Kid: Yea, yea, yea, I've heard that song a million times.
Me: So what's your favorite?
Kid: Addicted to Vaginal Skin
Me: Uh...that's Canibal Corpse
Kid: Oh

Then I got up and walked away.

Led-ZeppelinII 01-14-2006 10:20 PM

Nobody wants to hear stories about people who don't know who Pink Floyd is, no matter how superior they make you feel.
Nobody wants to hear stories about people who don't know who Pink Floyd is, no matter how superior they make you feel.
It doesn't make me feel superior and I didn't post that to make it sound like I'm a PF expert, cause I'm not, I only have 6 of their albums, I was just posting a funny event that happened to me once.

Deconstruction 01-14-2006 10:30 PM

Eh, I know I shouldn't complain, but I just wanted to get that out. I probably seem like a shallow elitist, but that is because most people are biased against my music, automatically deaming stupid. Sorry about the complaining.
