It's kind of amazing how well they all worked with each other. I don't think any of them could have been successful in any other band.
I would go see "The Who Show" if they played around me.
Ugh. I can't take it, I tell 'ya. :smash: I had the displeasure of seeing The Who Show around two and a half years ago at a local street fair. They were, um, do I need to be respectful? They were bad enough to almost be a parody. And whats with the singer? Roger did not move like that. Doesn't' really sing like that, either. I'm not sure if tribute bands are supposed to imitate or simply pay homage? Perhaps a little of both. They did neither very well. I was disappointed. Maybe they have gotten better. And the Quadrophenia production looks ambitious. But I still think the singer is a load. Plus it's one thing to be a cover band, but to walk around life imitating another band right down to playing all their songs and mimicking their stage show? I think that's a bit cheeky.
I would go to see that Who tribute band if they came near me. No one comes near me. :upset:
That's because you are there. |

Ouch.... I dunno about a Who tribute band. Seeing the guitarist immitate Pete, and Roger not being the vocals. I dont think I could take it... |
I'm not big on tribute bands, especially if the actual band is still around. Plus, I don't think anyone can immitate The Who live.
|
Well, only half the original band is still around.
800TH POST! |
Who are You came on the radio as me and my classmates were on the bus headed to bowling.

Do any of you have a custom Who playlist? I made one awhile back of a few faves and some under heard by me gems. Now they're all faves. I can listen to this for hours in a loop, and more. I used to keep the songs in chronilogical order, and that's fine, but it gets predictable. So now I keep it on the shuffle:
Slip Kid Don't Let Go The Coat 905 Squeeze Box The Quiet One Dreamimg From The Waist Dangerous The Punk And The Godfather Music Must Change Eminence Front I'm One Trick Of The Light Going Mobile Guitar And Pen The Seeker You Another Tricky Day One At A Time Cry If You Want Sea And Sand Blue, Red and Gray So do you have a customized Who playlist? What do you think of mine? |
The Who before 1970 called, they wanted some representation.
I haven't made one, but it seems like a good idea. My only problem with yours is what I just said. |
So now The Who is touring what's more fun of making setlists of what you want to see :P
I'll start I can't explain 3 new songs Pinball wizard The Punk And The Godfather new song The seeker New song The Magic Bus Doctor Jimmy Getting In Tune Amazing Journey The Kids Are Allright Helpless Dancer My Generation Love Reign O'er Me Who Are You Baba O' Riley Join Together Won't Get Fooled Again We're Not Gonna Take It |
I think we did that a little bit ago.
Here's a rough draft of what I would put on my Who playlist: Live at Leeds Ok, but seriously: Heaven and Hell Armenia, City in the Sky The Seeker Amazing Journey>Sparks The Real Me Young Man Blues Success Story Won't Get Fooled Again My Generation Slip Kid The Relay Baba O'Riley The Punk and the Godfather Rael A Quick One The Overture We're Not Gonna Take It 5:15 Love Reign O'Er Me Eminence Front Join Together |
I made a Who playlist once. But then I just realized that I'd rather listen to Live At Leeds or Tommy than the playlist so I deleted it.
I'm not a huge fan of playlists. I prefer to listen to full albums, and it is impossible for me to narrow things down. haha I remember the setlist I made. It could have filled a three day festival. Like I said, I can't narrow things down. Edit- Yea I got the same problem as Lunch I guess. I couldn't have a playlist without all of Live At Leeds, and if a playlist is going to be like 50 songs, it kind of defeats the purpose. Maybe I'll try to make one again. |
That's true, robo. I could never make one, either. Not a proper one. Like I said in the post, I took a few faves and some I haven't heard enough of from every album since Who's Next and made up a little list. For instance I don't hear enough of Who Are You or It's Hard because I don't care for those albums, so I selected a couple of favorite cuts off of those and John's cuts. Did that with Face Dances, as well. Although I like that album. I went lite on Quad and Who's Next cuts, because I've heard plenty of those, and I threw in some tuneful stuff from The Who By Numbers. It wasn't meant to be definitive. That playlist would be far too long....
|
Hey, you should have seen my dream Pink Floyd playlist I made once.
If I remember correctly, it was virtually six albums in their entirety. What a marathon for the old boys. NP: The Swingers - Counting The Beat |

I liked seeing The Quiet One on there. That might actually be my favorite John song and is definitely my favorite off of Facedances. |
Slip Kid

The rest of the album is too poppy for me. But You = great song. Custom Who playlist, I'll do that later... |
I couldn't make a Who play list. The Who are one of those bands that are so diverse in their sound that there are some songs or albums that I like more than others depending on my mood. I would have to make a play list for every one of my moods.
|
hmmmmm
Heaven and Hell Trick of the Light 905 Young Man Blues Punk and the Godfather A ballad other than Behind Blue Eyes (can't think of any though!) Pinball Wizard Baba O'Reilly Go to the Mirror Bargain Who Are You Christmas Boris the Spider Can't Explain Won't Get Fooled Again Overture Behind Blue Eyes See Me Feel Me/Listening to You |
My Who playlist would last a few hours.
It would be all of their albums. |
I need to get some more Who albms. I only have Who's Next
|
You have to get more! |
I need to get some more Who albms. I only have Who's Next
You really don't need that many more. Tommy, Quadrophenia, Live At Leads, The Who By Numbers, The Who Sellout (very interesting and arty record),Face Dances, The Kids Are Alright, Odds And Sods, Live At The Isle Of Wright Festival, The Who Sing My Generation, A Quick One.... Um, yeah. I guess you have some catching up to do. Those are all essential, IMO. And treat yourself to Pete Townshends "Empty Glass" solo album while you are at it. Get Quadrophenia, Who Are You, and The Who By Numbers! Quick! Those are my favorites anyway... |
I've downloaded a ton more Who songs, but I just like owning the albums.
|
Besides what was suggested, pick up Tommy and Sell Out, for a different sound.
|
Tommy is a must have.
