Im just getting into rush but they are an awesome band and all 3 members absolutely rock
|
yeeh kinda ran outa things to talk about
|
Impossible. Somehow that stupid Metallica thread has 20 000 or so posts and Rush has way more songs, albums and overall history.
Anyone like Presto? Not really Rush at their peak but still a great album. |
Presto have alot of great songs..
Red Tide and The pass are my Favourites. |
i like The pass
|
What would you gents say is the best Rush instrumental?
It's a tie between YYZ and Leave That Thing Alone for me. |
YYZ. Duhzorz.
|
YYZ...
if i get a song i dont like in my head, i always use YYZ to Push it out... People around me are getting realy annoyed by me going "dydedyttdytt dydedyttdytt" Every Now and then :p |
As much as I like YYZ, I prefer La Villa Strangiato. Awesome song, it's interesting to try to figure out when each movement ends and the next begins.
Plus, it's a great demonstration of each member's musical talent. |
After watching Rush in Rio the studio version of YYZ is sooo bland, I can hardly listen to it. live > studio by a mile

I actually disagree on that. As much as I like Rush in Rio, I think their quality is better in studio. The problem with Rush in Rio is that unfortunately, the bass overpowers the sound. |
I dunno. The only thing I really find different between the Rio and studio versions is Geddy's tone, and his part in the solo. His Rio tone is a love/hate thing for me, but, on the whole, it's substantially better than studio. But I really don't like how he does the 'flicky' thing during the solo.

Yeah, the bass can get annoying I don't know... the studio version just seems empty, while the live is very rockin \m/ lol |

They're both awesome, I just like the quality of the studio better. Also, Geddy's voice is much better in studio. His voice live isn't terrible, it's just much weaker. |
Geddy has a lot of power in his voice in studio, not so much in concert.
Whoever says that he sounds like a women needs to listen to him and then try to think of a women who sounds like Geddy. They wont be able to do it. He doesn't sound like any women on the planet. |

Oh yeah, I agree Geddy is better in the studio, I'm talking about YYZ is waaay better live :p |

people make fun of Coheed and Cambria for that, even when they were brought up in this very thread! Not trying to start anything here, but I'm just saying it's very hypocritical for a Rush fan to criticize the pitch of some other man's singing voice. |

haha I remember that.. but I have yet to hear a Coheed and Cambria song so I could not comment |

Well their first single was a song called "A Favor House Atlantic." I do NOT recommend that as your first foray into the band, because it's too ridiculous: a pop-punk song sung in a falsetto much higher than Geddy's normal range. But their other songs are more like progressive pop-punk, with lots of guitar melodies and great solos (not to mention slightly lower-pitched vocals). So don't be afraid to check them out, but they're definitely not for everyone. |
I would like to check them out
always looking for new music |
Welcome Home rocks. I anticipate C&C's new CD a lot.
|
I've never gotten into them, not my type of music.
Besides the voices, are they at all comparable to Rush? |
I take issue with Claudio's vocal tone more so than his technical pitch. I don't care that his voice is high, but I despise his general sound. It's totally lacking any sort of warmth or training, and is one of the most peculiar voices in the punk-emo scene, I'd say, whereas Geddy has obviously mellowed out and toned up a LOT. I love the riffs C/C get up to and they're clearly waving the prog flag every chance they get, but still.
|
Ha, my friend said that Geddy sounded like a woman today and I asked him to name one women who sounds like that or even close to that.
Me=teh win. |
haha ownd
I find that some of my extremely ignorant friends when trying to listen to Rush (or any of my other music) will always find one thing and stick with it to hate about it. Like Geddy sounds like a girl... ugh no, he doesn't. And is voice isn't that high during (album) 2112 |
Are there ANY male singers who honestly sound like women, and not merely very high-pitched men? The closest I can think of is Anthony Green of Circa Survive.
Check out a few sound clips of that band (they're new so they probably have a purevolume/myspace site), it might be something you like or maybe you'll just have a good laugh. |
I love Rush Neil pert is an awsome drummer!!!!!!! the only thing I have against Rush is there drummer lol....He has no emotion when he plays it seems like he doesnt even like the drums dont get me wrong he kicks butt!!!!
:smash: |
It is true, Neil Pert is not that good. Maybe if they had less drum wankage and Geddy Lee sang in a register a couple octaves down... :smoke:
Just my opinion, so don't get your collective panties in a knot. |
