fender telecaster, i think he had 2..a both black, one with a rosewood fretboard, and another with a maple

paul simonon used a rickenbacker early on but hated so went on to use a white/black fender with a maple fretboard,,which is the famous one he smashed, he also used a white/black fender with a rosewooed fretboard
and in the video for "the call up" and " london calling" he can be seen usign what looks liek an ibanez hollow body bass..paul got his fender basses from CBS

mick jones used a gibson lespaul..cherry sunburst, and he also had a moroon looking one, he had a yellow double cut away along with a red one..and in one video he was using a all black fender stratocaster

i dont no what drums topper used though
Just too add a little info, Paul like the P-Bass because it felt more like a weapon, and the Rickenbacker was too flat.

And thanks for finding the beginning of Clampdown, rep+ if I can, even though I probably can't.

guns_of_brixton 03-02-2005 07:14 PM

Yea it always comes up. And Paul wanted to put 4 legs on the Rickenbacker and make it into a table.

Forest_Fire 03-02-2005 07:16 PM

i know paul hated his bass trebly, he liked it bassy...with some mids in... he also used a calliegen kruger amp..im preety sure about that

joe and mick didnt use pedals that much..just clean or with distortion and maybe some reverb...i dont no what amp mick used, but in a video he was using some amp called "boogie" and joe used a fender amp

some more usefull info about the clash gear is

paul hated his bass being all nice, he would always beat it up and throw it around on stage..on his bass he smashed in new york that bass had his name painted, pressure painted on it, a checker board painted on and paint splants on the pick gaurd

and on another one of his basses he painted the headstock black and had a sticker on it

micks gutiars were always clean and no paint oin it, expet one les paul he had , he put a sticker on it

and everybody knows joe with his tele..aged bytime and with a bunch of stickers

it makes me kinda saad to think about his guitar.it was such a cool guitar.he used it so many years...he must miss his guitar now :upset:

guns_of_brixton 03-02-2005 07:34 PM

You guys probably know this, but Paul had 2 Fender basses, a good-sounding one and a bad one. The one he smashed in NY (london calling cover) was the good one, and he regretted it for years.

yea why he liked the one he smashed so much is it was a heavier model and more expenisve model, but the basses CBS gave im were cheap and light weight

TheNowhereman42 03-02-2005 07:48 PM

Yeah I randomly saw a Joe Strummer thing on Biography or some other channel.

There was some story about it.

CombatRock 03-02-2005 07:50 PM

I found an article if you guys are interested. Somewhere in there it talks about their equipment.

guns_of_brixton 03-02-2005 07:55 PM

I had no idea Paul used a frettless bass, or at least he did whent this interview was done.

CombatRock 03-02-2005 07:56 PM

no no, thats false, i know paul never used a fretless, for one, his bass lines dont even sound like they were used by a fretless

Coma_Girl 03-02-2005 07:56 PM

i was looking for the guitar thing tom asked, but i found this instead on the same website.
