Well... I'm stuffed. How's everyone been?
Yay for the colour scheme & posts. Have fun Moaner. /is going to "Classical Spectacular" tonight |
I'm good :thumb:. How was your trip?
|
Anybody who hasn't heard it yet; should download this song and have a listen. It is just beautiful.
http://www.dropbear.net/files/A Poem for Byzantium.wma Listen to the instrumentation. I wish I could compose stuff like that! And the vocals are just gold. |
That track is amazing. It kinda goes a little too pop/lighthearted towards then end for my tastes, but the intro is incredible.
|
Add Delerium to another artist that MX has introduced me to.
Off to get more... |
Gaslight: Good to hear :). Pretty sweet thanks. Didn't really do anything exciting though, but who cares.
/listens to that track Man, Classical Spectacular was awesome! The conductor was jumping around and dancing to the music, and he was funny as. They had fireworks go off from the seats nearest the stage (...loud...) and I'll stop rambling now. |

Sounds like you enjoyed it then. :) |
Yup, t'was sweet.
How's it going mate? Much been going on up your way? Been jamming much/found a drummer other than Kate (unless she's joining you guys) for Manifest? |
I'm good, thankyou. I'm still looking for another job, even tho I've got 3 weeks left till my current contract works out.
But I'd like to be able to walk out of one job and straight into another, without any layover time. Kate is keen to help us out as our drummer, which is great news for us. Hopefully we'll be able to start writing some new songs and get back into gigging. Although now with a differnt (and better) musical direction. It's more so for a bit of fun than anything really. We're far from being talented musicians. But Jesse, our bassist, is a good song writer. He used to be in another local band and I guess he still had unused song ideas floating around from that. But it's an advantage that we have him now. :) |
Awesome :). And the other band? Still not going coz of the singer or...?
Good luck with the job. I've got a 50 hour music marathon coming up in a bit under 2 weeks. It'll be sweet as, but I'll be a bit KO'd at the end (I'm in 3 of the 4 bands that are to be playing there, plus my band is going to play and I have to do some solo stuff too). Our drummer is going to play their solo hour at 3am on the second morning... /wonders how many things will be thrown at them :p |
How do you record?
I've just discovered this site and I have heard many of the members recorded stuff (and seem some video). I hope this is the proper thread to ask this, but how does one record their own music so that we can hear it on this site? I play guitar so it would be for that mostly. Thanks.

mics,mixer,minidisk...upload to pc...drop it on sound click...
|
or change minidisc to a computer running audacity and skip the upload phase
|
http://audacity.sourceforge.net for Audacity by the way - 2.4Mb download.
Even a cheap computer mic will get you by (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325138 - the 6th post), but having a better mic will help prevent you getting crackles in the background and that kinda stuff. These threads may be of use to you: - http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=274010 and/or http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=338241 <- Audacity help threads - http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187860 <- the home recording guide Once you've got it recorded, throw the files onto something like http://www.soundclick.com (you'll need to make an acount, but it's free so it's all good) and then you can link people to it. :). |
Listen up ladies. An amp has headphone outputs at line level, and a mixer has line level ins. So there is absolutely no need for something like a DI box? Am I wrong, this just came to me when a purist guitarist friend of mine said he was doing that to preserve the amp's tone. Comments on this?
|
Use DI boxes if there is a need to balance the signal, and/or convert impedence.
Like running something like a bass guitar direct to the mixer. Or if you have problems with ground loops caused by unbalenced connections. Some DI boxes can even attenuate up to 40dB or so, so you esentially can run these directally of an amps speaker output (in parrallel to the speaker) with neglible affect on the amp load. And in this case you can preserve some the amps tone. However, I think the best method is to mic up the speaker cabinet with a good quality mic. |
Same here. But since he said it was the best way to achieve the most natural sound I gave it a moment's thought. But I always mic up cabs.

Right, I'm going to make it official now. I'm gonna pop out of MX for a few months whilst we work on the album and our debut UK tour. Whilst I've had plenty of time for MX, I've been lacking the drive really, my minds been far far away with the band so I haven't done anything productive or updated Band 101 like I've promised on about 4 occaisions now.
So in 2-3 months, you can expect me back and hopefully with a little more zest for MX, and I'll definately be game for catching up with you guys and what you're up to, hopefully none of you will have left our little community crafted by the original demi-mods of JS :p I might pop in occaisionally to update the band links thread but that's probably about it for the current time. So if anyone needs to contact me then it's bandage_these_hearts@hotmail.com And as a parting gift. It's the K crushing the Bradford Rios stage under his charismatic and overpowering aura of majesty and long hair that smells of watermelon. http://www.notcoolclub.com/profiles/453.jpg On the far left obviously because I don't play anything with strings. See you around guys! Keep up the good work! |
Good luck with the tour. Sounds exciting.
|
Sweet as man. Gonna miss having ya round, but what you're doing sounds awesome so it's okay. Just make sure you don't get too famous to be able to spare any time for us :thumb:!
|
send checks if you make it big...
|
omg spain was awesome.
i really felt a week away form the computer helped. I'm looking and feeling orange and healthy, and saw tonnes of cool stuff. I did miss some of you guys tho... Much moreso than the guitar forum :D. Best of luck, looks and lunch to the K, to whom we owe much. and ATGNWG... it's "cheques", right? |
I didn't know you went to Spain! You shoulda taken me to be your personal Flamenco player... :(
What kind of stuff did you do there? |
I didn't know you went to Spain! You shoulda taken me to be your personal Flamenco player... :(
What kind of stuff did you do there?
I visited loads of nice places. the people in spain/portugal are great. We even drove along an actual roman bridge. that was still a fully functional bridge. That was a bit weird. |
Sounds sweet as... welcome back :).
|
And you should have taken me because I need to be around for that kind of stuff.
|
yeah, i shoulda.
|
My sister was in Barcelona last month. She got her camera, phone, and wallet pickpocketed while on a train.
She told us all to call up and txt message her phone and abuse the person who nicked it. I sent a couple of txts, full of colourful language. But it's good to hear that you enjoyed it over there. And it's nice to have you back. :) |
yes... well, you guys have me back. frankly, after a week without it, i'm not sure i'm up to posting in the guitar forum much.
Later today, I'mm off to find out about getting a job in a supermarket they're building near me. imagine that. Me, with a job! |
Moaner, with a job!
