I have been looking for a kit of cymbals; but I have decided to just buy them individually because I can get better quality like that. I know I want the Paiste Sound Edge Hats, But I'm not sure of what ride I want. I like the sound of the HHX Groove ride. Does anybody have any cymbals that sound like it? I am not very good at describing sounds of cymbals... but I think it sounds dry. kind of washy too. does anybody know of any others? I don't even know about a crash yet.

Collis 04-29-2005 05:24 PM

OK I have only been playing the drums for about 3 or 4 months now, and I am in desperate need of a ride. I have about £120 to spend, I don't really know the exact sound (As I'm a noob), but at the minute I am learning things from Led Zep through To Red Hot Chili Peppers and obviously I would like a ride to suite these styles.

Cheers.

What would you recommend for a very fat, but still articulate, hi-hat for a wide variety of music?

To be honest, I wouldn't make any purchases by what I say, but I think that the 13" HHX Evolution hats may suit you. As ever, try before buy.

redhotslipknot 04-30-2005 06:41 AM

K/Z and A/Z hats any ideas what styles of music they would suit?

redhotslipknot 04-30-2005 06:42 AM

Oh and if anybodys played them how are they?

rockindrummer 04-30-2005 10:57 AM

Hey I'm looking into buying a new ride within a couple of weeks and I can't go into the store to check out rides because it's very far away. So I was wondering what you guys thought of the K custom ride and the A medium ride, and which one of the two would be better for rock/prog music but still have the ability (s.p.) for other types of music.

chris66 04-30-2005 11:20 AM

I bought a new 17" Vault crash a few weeks ago, and want to get another crash that would go along good with it. Right now my only other crash is a 16" XS20 Rock crash which i want to replace with a AA/AAX crash soon. What 16" crash from AA/AAX would sound good with the Vault. I play mostly Alternative Hard Rock stuff. I would prefer a crash with a higher pitch that cuts out pretty fast, but still be loud.

PS. I'm not a brand whore, Sabians are just cheaper here in Canada :thumb:

bobby__johnny 04-30-2005 03:17 PM
Does anyone know about the HH Feirce crashs, and are they ralated to the sig jojo mayer feirce crashes?
they sould have a similar tone. i'd say the Sig model would be a tad brighter, and the HH model would be a bit more complex sounding.
I like the Sabian Pro 20" ride a lot, but it sounds pretty quiet to me. If not, could someone suggest something that has a similar tone but can cut through? The Leopard ride sounds ideal on the website but I need something less expensive. It doesn't have to be Sabian.
you could try the PRO Rock Ride. it have more ping, but it would certainly be louder.

ry the AA Rock ride, or Medium-heavy Ride
What would you recommend for a very fat, but still articulate, hi-hat for a wide variety of music?
HHX Groove hats
K/Z and A/Z hats any ideas what styles of music they would suit?
any style where you needed to Project the Hats more.

i say check out the A. Medium Ride. the bright tonality would be suitable for rock oriented music, but its versatile enough to be used in just about any style. basically, its gonna be the most versatile ride ever in my books.

AA Medium Crash.

wow....that was a long post.

Drum Phil 05-01-2005 05:24 AM

Right-o, Im after some new crashes, they have to be a 16" and a 19", dont ask why. I need them to be affordable (around the £100 each mark) and a nice "crashy" tone. Ive tried pearl and stagg ones before, the pearl were too dull and the stagg was too trashy, so something in between would be nice. I quite like the sound of Pro Sonix ones so something along those lines would be nice.

Im also looking for a 22" ride. Looking to spend around £200 on this. Needs to be pingy with very little over tone. These cymbals will be used in punk and possibly ska music.

kthxbye :thumb:

Murd_666 05-01-2005 08:43 AM

what kind of currancy. If it's canadian save up a bit more and get an AA 16" Medium/Rock crash, an 19" AA metal-x/AAX Metal Crash, for the 22" Ride look into an AA heavy ride or an AAX Metal Ride. I won't really matter if ther is to much ping cause the guitars would probbaly drown it out, or if you want some thing now the XS20 Rock crashes and Pro Rock crashes are pretty nice sounding. keep the ride though its only 10 dollars over...

bobby__johnny 05-01-2005 09:34 AM

umm...he gave currency. GBP

anyways, the Pro/Sonix Line is your best bet to be looking at

snag up some PRO Stage Crashes, and the PRO Ride and your laughing.

legolandrum 05-01-2005 10:58 AM

China

I need a good china cymboll that has a realy sharp ring...any ideas/suggestions?

bobby__johnny 05-01-2005 12:00 PM

check the B8 or ZXT lines. they're quite bright, and wont break the bank.

maybe a 14" or 16"

Dave*Grohl 05-01-2005 01:54 PM

What would be a good ride? A little bit of wash but still some ping! Sabian AA Rock ride, Sabian AA Med. Heavy Ride??

Drum Phil 05-01-2005 02:58 PM

I only need the 19" crash now, its got to compliment a 15" sonix crash though. Are Z custom Power rides any good?

legolandrum 05-01-2005 04:53 PM

bobby__johnny 05-01-2005 05:04 PM

^^^

get the Medium-Heavy or Heavy Ride.

Epiphender 05-01-2005 05:28 PM

Which of these 20" AAs is loudest, the medium ride, tight ride, or heavy ride?

TTTSNB 05-01-2005 05:41 PM
Which of these 20" AAs is loudest, the medium ride, tight ride, or heavy ride?
The heavy one. Heavier cymbals are generally louder.

Seafroggys 05-01-2005 11:02 PM

22" would be even louder.

well, if you play in a hard rock/metal band and have to cut through walls of guitars and want a huge ride sound, then I'd say its for you. persoannly i'd say look at some alternatives like A rock rides and A custom projection rides

Drum Phil 05-02-2005 05:18 AM

I play in a punk band which uses a lot of effects on the guitars, so my ride never cuts through. On some live recordings my hats havent even come through! So yeah, im gonna go up to a drum centre and try some of the suggested rides.

Cheers

DruMMeR_BoY14 05-02-2005 05:57 AM

hmm, well if your in a punk rock band I'd take a look at the ping ride as well. I have a 20" and man the crash on that thing is ****in loud!

Drum Phil 05-02-2005 06:06 AM

Crash? I dont want much overtone.

DruMMeR_BoY14 05-02-2005 06:11 AM

well then deffianly consider a rock model. I assumed you were looking for a crashable ride, nevermind.

Dave*Grohl 05-02-2005 10:27 AM

Would a Avedis 20" Regular Ping ride be good for playing punk and other loud music?? And i have new beats and was thinking of buying avedis 17 & 18 medium crashes, they any good?

Dave*Grohl 05-02-2005 10:51 AM

Will Paiste 2002 series fit for punk and will they mix with zildjian avedis new beat hihats??

bobby__johnny 05-02-2005 03:06 PM

they should. both are bright sounding.
