i was watching the ashley simpson show yesterday (yeah that's right, *******) and she went on the show "top of the pops" and sang live. sum 41 has been on twice, and lip synched both times. what the ****? ashley simpson.... sum 41.... ashley simpson..... sum 41.... WHAT?
that pissed me off...
I don't like her or her sister, and I had no idea that Sum 41 even thought about lip synching. That sucks. Maybe its because Derycks vocals ruptured, I woner if he's gottne better yet.

bassist_for_a_band 03-25-2005 07:44 PM

No, Sum 41 is from New Zealand... DUH theyre canadian

man i cannot wait until this concert

nope, they lip synched (the entire song was just a backtrack, plus instruments) because they had faulty wires i believe.

i don't think that's it, they've done it twice. and it's a show that people regularly lip synch on. i think that was just the plan.

Yeah there is a lot of lip synching on top of the pops but I saw The Offsrping do Original Prankster on it and they weren't lip synching. Well a lot of the background vocals were synched but you could tell Dexter was singing. Oh well Sum 41 doesn't lip synch at concerts so that's all that matters.

Virus278 03-26-2005 12:00 PM

how can u be 100% certain whether someone was lipsinking or not? - like Offspring could just be really good at lipsinking right?

guitarist.kid 03-26-2005 06:23 PM

I would juste like to ask all of you if you really consider Sum 41 as pop-punk? For me, before Chuck they were punk but now they play good rock so what do you think?

They were pop-punk for AKNF and HHoP, but for DTLI and Chuck they were more metal-influenced.

DJ Ducksauce 03-26-2005 08:53 PM

Did anyone see them perform "Pieces" on the Ellen Degeneres Show? It was pretty good. Deryck played the piano instead of guitar. I had no idea he could!

i watched thursday. i thought it was thursday. then i looked on the site and it was friday. i forgot to put it on friday, i saaw the last five minutes. :'(

himynameistweek 03-26-2005 11:56 PM

****, i missed it. i meant to watch, but i went on a road trip thursday. and i guess it got changed, cause it was scheduled for thursday, so i thought i missed it :( i'll download it though. and yeah, they played it onletterman and deryck played piano there too.
and i always just refer to sum 41 as a rock band now. i think that's about the best label you can give them. they're pretty diverse.

Well I'm not 100% sure but I don't know you could just tell.

I missed Ellen but I saw them do it on Letterman, Kimmel, and Leno, all with piano. I also have some concert vids where Deryck played piano. That's why I was surprised at the concert I went to, he played guitar instead of piano. I was so happy because I think it sounds much better with guitar.

I don't consider them as pop punk at all anymore. That's why I get so mad when they're still refered to as pop-punk. If you listen to what everybody calls pop-punk and think Sum 41 is then you're just plain dumb. So yes I agree with you I think they're just a rock band with some metal elements.

GoTeam 03-27-2005 09:50 PM

so then why is this thread in the "pop punk" forum and not in the "rock" forum?

DJ Ducksauce 03-27-2005 10:10 PM

They started off Pop-punk, and the The R&M forum probably wouldn't take to them very nicely.

people under the age of 30 like them. that's a big no-no.

TheBassicBassist 03-29-2005 11:23 AM

I tried to start a thread about Sum 41 in the Punk forum and it just died and was dumb and there is a Sum 41 thread in the Rock & Metal forum called Sum 41 Anyone? or something like that and it isn't doing so well, so in conclusion most of the Sum 41 fans hang out in here and so thats where this is.

TheBassicBassist 03-29-2005 11:27 AM

this is my 1,000'th post and I want it to mean something so it's going in here. You guys rock :thumb:

Meh, the way I see it, Pop-Punk is probably the genre I listen to most, soI come here, but I also like it here because there are less elitists here than in most of the other forums. Apart from Alt/Indie, the guys there are cool (not as cool as the pop-punkers though :p), just I prefer the music here :)

I only found this section now. I'm usually in R&M, but I love Green Day, Sum 41, and Blink-182.

My band's going to play Hell Song, its really simple and sounds cool.

There was a band who played that last year at my school. It was pretty good.

That's one of my favorite songs to play with my band. We also do Pieces and Still Waiting quite a bit.

thanks, I try to insult elitists as much as I can, they are fucking losers.

the bass part is harder than it sounds, I mean, I'm not saying its hard or anything, I can play it easily, but its not just straight eighth notes, it actually has some substance. my brother and I play it alot, he's a guitarist and he plays the solo

daveblinkkid 04-03-2005 04:14 PM

I don't think I've ever seen a post like this, it's cool, but ever so strange.
