What doom have you listened to? Check out some stoner doom like Electric Wizard if you haven't already.

Have you listened to Boris's stoner albums? Get Heavy Rocks for sure. Thats one of my favorite stoner rock albums of all time.

TimJim 08-13-2009 11:18 AM

Electric Wizard is one of my favourite bands, but i'll def check out brois

stevensonmat2 08-13-2009 11:19 AM

sleep's 'holy mountain' and 'dopesmoker' are classics

also check out some of wino's stuff, like Spirit Caravan and The Hidden Hand (specifically the lp Mother Teacher Destroyer.).

Bleekill 08-13-2009 11:21 AM

Yeah for sure, High on Fire rules but you probably already listen to them. Another one you have probably checked out is Clutch. Also one of my favorite stoner rock bands, you can't really go wrong with any of their albums.

High on Fire is okay, i dont care for the vocals sometimes though... i cant pinpoint it so far

stevensonmat2 08-13-2009 11:29 AM

wino's stuff might be a bit hard to take in at first (may come across as cheesy), so I would work backwards from hidden hand's 'mother teacher destroyer' to wino's older stuff. That's how I got into him.

As much as I love HoF, if you're going to criticise any component of their sound it shouldn't be the vocals... :p

Good stoner rock bands you should check out:

Clutch (for most stoner stuff check out Pure Rock Fury and Elephant Riders)
Masters of Reality*
Mondo Generator (Cocaine Rodeo in particular)
Orange Goblin
Truckfighters (a difinite)
the mighty Kyuss
Queens of the Stone Age (Songs for the Deaf and earlier)
Earthlings?
Orchestra Del Desierto
Desert Sessions and associated bands
Sleep
Melvins
Fu Manchu
Brant Bjork & the Bros.
Che
Hermano
Slo Burn
Unida
Colour Haze
Suns of Thunder
Ween, I suppose

I've a bunch of others. Let me know what you think :)

*New album's apparently out later this month, like the 24th or something. It's called Pine/Dover Something. Kerrang gave it a pretty decent write up, sounds like an actual MoR album, not so much Chris Goss. As good as Give Us Barrabas was, I don't listen to it very often..

I think a lot of you guys are going to like that album, I did.

stevensonmat2 08-19-2009 09:03 AM

Clips from Om's new album are avaliable on on drag city's website: http://www.dragcity.com/products/god-is-good

The clips sound very interesting. Each song is fairly different from one another and the work as a whole looks to be a refreshing departure from Om's now standard formula. September 8th(or maybe the 29th) can't come soon enough for me :D

rasputin 08-19-2009 10:26 AM

Jaundice 08-21-2009 12:40 PM

listening to witchfinder general, would be able to enjoy this if it didn't have the least grim vocals i've ever heard

negrodamus 08-21-2009 02:03 PM

I know this is blasphemous, but I really don't like that much traditional doom.

Jaundice 08-21-2009 02:04 PM

im sure i could get into some traditional doom, but this **** sounds like cheesy 80's rock with the occasional cool riff
