Yeah that was the last day I had access to the exposure unit and its my only screen...

Jon 06-26-2007 07:22 AM

anyone know about bleaching denim? I'm not talking fading it a little bit, I want it white, or a bleachy yellow or whatever.

Is 70:30 water:bleach in a tub for an hour going to be a good mix?

Converge#12 06-26-2007 10:25 AM

Whatever you find I'd like to know because I was wondering the same thing not too long ago.

Jon 06-26-2007 12:02 PM

I forgot how good craftster is.

If it disintegrates it doesn't really matter because denim is easy as hell to sew through. and safety pins and stuff.

yeah.

White jeans.

Jon 06-26-2007 03:33 PM

Yeah I have like 3 pairs of white jeans, I'm bleaching my jacket :p

asdf 06-27-2007 10:49 AM

I had some white corduroys, and I ended up tie-dying them.

That reminds me, more dye and supplies for tie-dye arrived today, so I should really get on that.

Anarcho Poser 06-27-2007 11:28 AM

my friend did tie-dying at his graduation party. it was kickass.

Jon 06-27-2007 11:29 AM

tiedying is such hippy bullshit, I wouldn't talk to anyone who wore tie-dye :(

Anarcho Poser 06-27-2007 11:31 AM

It makes me money, so I don't really complain about it.

Plus my tie-dye pants are pretty neat.

Jon 06-28-2007 05:27 AM

Sounds like hippy talk to me

asdf 07-10-2007 10:17 PM

Thanks, but I think I'll stick with it.

plebeian scum 07-12-2007 10:35 PM

I've got a pair of converse-type shoes (actually a brand called No Sweat, which are union-made) that are ripped along the seam between the canvas and rubber insole. Rather than just throw them out (which is what I should probably just do), I'm trying to figure out the best way to fix them. Sew through the rubber with a big needle and fishing line? Patch them from the inside? Using glue? Any suggestions?

asdf 07-12-2007 11:17 PM

When my shoes ripped like that, I sewed through the rubber. It worked just fine. I think glue is a bad choice.

Danger Bird 07-13-2007 12:43 AM

I sewed on a patch when mine ripped but the patches quickly ripped. Maybe it's just because I have no clue how to sew idk

plebeian scum 07-13-2007 04:20 PM

so I superglued a patch in and sewed over it (through the rubber too). hopefully that will hold.

Jon 07-13-2007 05:49 PM

you can just about see it...just screenprinted this vest. its really bad because i did it on a cardboard box instead of a hard surface so i couldn't press down properly.

yeah.
(actually a brand called No Sweat, which are union-made)
how are no sweats? do they have the same feel as converse, and how long do they last?

plebeian scum 07-21-2007 03:26 PM
how are no sweats? do they have the same feel as converse, and how long do they last?
I've never had a pair of converse, so it's hard to compare, but for the most part I like them a lot. I feel like the canvas is a little thicker, but like I said I can't be sure. I think the rubber is different too - it seems to chip - but it doesn't bother me too much.

I had problems with them ripping where the canvas meets rubber, but that's because of the bad way I pull them off. I've got some punctures in the sole, but that;s because they're sneakers. I got mine around september and wear them everyday, and now that I've sewn them, about the earliest I can see replacing them is winter.

I cut a stencil tonight/this morning, but I cannot for the life of me find the shirt I was going to put it on.

Any DIY ways to track things down when you're a forgetful idiot?

Jon 07-21-2007 04:16 PM

ditto that.

I've lost my wallet, which had my ID, bus pass & debit card in it.

no money on my card, no cash either, but I need my bus pass and ID.

I'm 95% sure its in the house.

lol stuff like this happens to me all the time

asdf 07-22-2007 12:47 AM

So I found the shirt (it was shoved in a couch) and I'm glad because that had been bothering me for two days. So then I stenciled on it:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/TMBGshirt.jpg

I'm pretty happy with it.

margin0walker 07-22-2007 12:51 AM

i thought about making a band t shirt via stencil but the i thought it would be weird because its like your a walking advertisement for that band and it just didnt sit well with me

asdf 07-22-2007 12:55 AM

I have no problem being a walking advertisement for They Might Be Giants.

Plus I find making shirts a relaxing way to pass the time, while still remaining focused on something.

80% of my oftenly worn shirts seem to be band shirts I made myself.
