The Zakk Wylde boomers has a 60 in there and that works fine for me. I just don't wanna do guitar for this.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 06:51 PM

My vote(s) goes for Lateralus and Eulogy. Parabola is causing too much trouble. It would be great to do, but there are choices that would be just as good with much less hassle. :-/

If anyone is down to 'sing' Ticks & Leeches, I could do the guitar. Like I said before, this song would allow for the most originality and/or improv.

Moseswasbanned 06-04-2005 06:52 PM

I think our line-up should be:
Sober
Part of me
Parabol/a
Stinkfist

I am most definately down to sing Ticks and Leeches.

tti.....titti......ticks and leeches *gulp* uhhhhhhh.........errrrr.

Moseswasbanned 06-04-2005 06:55 PM

I feel bad for the drummer. We're just talking about these songs that we forget have really hard drum parts.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 06:55 PM

Think of those songs though. Sober is just a simple 5 minute song. Good, yes, great, I wouldn't say so. Part of Me is the same. Parabol/a is amazing, yes, but it seems that noone wants to do the guitar part. Stinkfist could be great, but I don't think that would win us the competition.

EDIT: liptallica said that he can do Ticks & Leeches.

F+1-How close can you come on T&L?

Moseswasbanned 06-04-2005 06:59 PM

Come on guitarists. Dropping B can't be that hard, there has to be one of you that wants to win this for us. Just buy a 60+ guage string and that should be good enough.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 07:01 PM
The Zakk Wylde boomers has a 60 in there and that works fine for me. I just don't wanna do guitar for this.
Why, may I ask?

EDIT: You know what I could do...I could use the whammy effect or the pitch shift effect on my RP300A to get drop B without tuning to drop B.

Nah, that would be cheap. :p Plus, I'm having recording dillemas. :-/

hmmmmm..... well thats a hard song, but i can slow it down using gold wave and then try figure it out....but you might want sliptallica for this one.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 07:05 PM

Can you do Eulogy and The Grudge? I totally forgot about The Grudge. :p

Kage- Whenever you see this, did you ever record Stinkfist?

Kage- Whenever you see this, did you ever record Stinkfist?
the grudge will take me a while to "NAIL" but i can do it. and eulogy has the first 2 minuets of wierd noises but besides that i can do the drum part.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 07:23 PM

In the intro to Eulogy, what do you think Carey is playing with/hitting. It sounds like spoons hitting a metal countertop or something.

YouGottaBeCrazy 06-04-2005 07:24 PM

Does anyone else find that for guitar, the rhythms in "The Grudge" are a bit hard to nail. I'm mostly talking about the first 2 verses (I guess they're verses). You know, the "clutch it like a corner stone..." part. I find the guitar at that section and a couple other sections to be a bit tricky. Anyone agree?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 07:28 PM

I find the chorus to Lateralus to be pretty tricky. Switching time sigs each bar is a skill I have yet to master. :p

True.

Jake, it occurs to me that I forgot what your MX name used to be before you chagned to it to Dr. Jake Destructo. It's been bugging me for awhile.
I find the chorus to Lateralus to be pretty tricky. Switching time sigs each bar is a skill I have yet to master. :p
for guitar its fairly easy because you can think of it as a big bar of 6

9+8+7=24 24/4=6
but i guess the rythm might be hard at first, cool song :D

i had to edit it cause i suck at math

It was a reference to one of your favorite bands- SoaD

Kombucha Mushroom Mofo. :p

now, did you record Stinkfist?

+1: 3 bars of 8 is easier for me. :p I can do it, but I have to think quite a bit first.
In the intro to Eulogy, what do you think Carey is playing with/hitting. It sounds like spoons hitting a metal countertop or something.
I think they're clavé. For the intro to eulogy, I actually listened through it and scored out all the electronics in the intro, and it sounds like the repeating clavé part is just a sample that plays, and he then plays the "pings" that are dotted semi-quavers over that, then introduces the shakers plays 8ths with some 16ths over that, then the pinging noise is replaced with another noise that sounds somewhat like different pitched wooden finger bells or whatever they're called, and then that rhythm is played with 2 different popping noises that have an echo on them. I have a score of it on another hard drive that's not in a computer... so if I can get it I'll post it. It's sibelius though.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 07:55 PM

Wow...That's a little more in depth than my spoon theory. :p wtf is a clavé?

I've been working on getting a good recording but it's proving trickier to get an Adam-like sound than I suspected. I will record it, though.

And, yes, SOAD is possibly my favorite band.

EDIT: Oh, and have we gotten some kind of time frame on the competition?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 07:58 PM

It must be the well thought out metaphors involving male anatomy.

Are you talking about tonewise, or just the feel in general?

Hm, I replied out of order.

Sidenote- There's a link to my recording of Sober a couple pages back, if you missed that.

EDIT: If anything, I think we've lost ground. :-/ We have millions of peices of songs, but none of them fit.

omg Schism

We decided that to win the competition, we're going to have to conquer one of Tool's beasts (eg. Lateralus, The Grudge, Eulogy) but we can't decide on what track. Everyone wants to do Parabol/a but there isn't a guitarist willing to play in drop B. I am pushing for Ticks&Leeches, but we don't have a drummer at the moment that can do that. I am also pushing for Eulogy. 307 said he wanted to do that.

Anyways, Kage, You wanna play Parabol/a? That would solve our problem. :p

well they might be clavé but he mainly deels with indian music so it could be the indian counterpart. but all of the intro live is done on the handsonic

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-04-2005 08:11 PM

Is the clavay the spoon thingy, or what sound does it make? :-/

/end sarcasm
Are you talking about tonewise, or just the feel in general?
Tone-wise mainly, but feel will come. I'm still recording to Joz's bass tracks, not the actual song, so let me know if we've decided against that or something (I need to read back a few pages).
Sidenote- There's a link to my recording of Sober a couple pages back, if you missed that.
Yes, I did miss that. I shall go and find.

What instrument does 307 play? Guitar I assume. I'd love to do Lateralus, but I bet someone else already has guitar dibs on that anyway.

I'd love to, but Drop B is hell on my guitar. I've done it before. Not a good story.

ThePatient 06-04-2005 08:14 PM

What's this competition that was mentioned a few posts up?

Futuro 06-04-2005 08:16 PM

i would really like to do lateralus.....by my vote prolly sucks:lol:

jensmatty 06-04-2005 08:28 PM

I think they're all just midi sounds, that happen to sound similar to percussion pieces. I'm not sure if he uses his e-pads or his handsonic, but he plays on both sides of the kit. The ping, 2 pithed clicks and pops are on the left side, shaker-like sound and bass drum sound are right side... i think that's right.. i just confused myself... I play left handed so i can't remember, lol. I'm actually pretty sure he just uses the e-pads for everything except maybe the clavé's that plays under the entire intro. i dunno, I've only seen one vid of him playing it live, and listening to the intro repeatedly for an hour or two... I've convinced myself I'm right, lol.

He definately layered Stinkfist alot, or a weird kind of reverb/chorus/somthing.

Moseswasbanned 06-04-2005 08:48 PM

/Bump

I really wanna do Parabol/a though.

I swear this thread dies right when I post in it.
