I've been wanting to get into photography a lot lately. You dont happen to have anyone around here that's a genius with a camera i don't suppose?

I should really go to a photography forum, but well, i don't really know any.

Little Android Man 03-06-2008 09:50 AM

LOL Phil is a really good photographer... but as you can see he just left until he feels like coming back.

And Jay k*bang*thnx*came*bai

Datsuzoku 03-06-2008 09:51 AM

Damn. The only camera i have is an old film one, so i guess i should probably buy a digital before i start learning.

Little Android Man 03-06-2008 09:53 AM

Old school cameras rock. They are more fun tbh. You never know what the picture gunna look like until you get it developed.

Datsuzoku 03-06-2008 09:59 AM

Thats true, but the price of developing is pretty harsh around here. Actually, it would be much more fun to set up a dark room.

Datsuzoku 03-06-2008 10:03 AM

I hear colour developing chemicals are dangerous though.

I really need to learn to read sheet notation for drums.

just listen to the audio clips. once you listen and view the written music it will start making sense. the line the notes fall on will always be snare drum in drum sheet music.

the first thing to learn is whole, half, eigth, sixteenth and thirty-second notes.

Datsuzoku 03-06-2008 10:58 AM

Thanks.

I dont suppose you can make a thread explaining sheet music for me could you?

Basically which lines represent which peice, how notes fit into different time signatures and that kind of thing?

Retarded Chipple 03-06-2008 11:03 AM

Dude, ignore different time signatures for the time being. When very first learning to read, stick with 4/4 imo.

Datsuzoku 03-06-2008 11:04 AM

Probably best. Despite previously owning a kit, i didn't really bother to learn any of this stuff.

Kainen 03-06-2008 11:07 AM

DRUM! magazine has a pretty cool explanation of drum notation at the beginning of every issue.

Heres the most basic rock beat.

bottom notes are bass drum, top X's are hi hat.

Retarded Chipple 03-06-2008 11:09 AM

Ahh, the basics of rhythmic theory isn't really THAT hard once you get going with it. Just gotta take your time.

http://musictheory.net/

Click on Lessons, the first 7 will really help you although they don't 100% apply to drums, you'll get the idea.

Kainen 03-06-2008 11:16 AM

ah yes musictheory.net i completely forgot about that site. the flash lessons are great!

Panopticon 03-06-2008 11:17 AM

basic notation is probably the easiest thing about music.

Datsuzoku 03-06-2008 11:27 AM

Thanks guys.

This is more in depth. You've mostly gotta be concerned with note duration and the notation of rhythmic patterns and phrases. Basically, what a quarter note is or an eighth note etc etc and how it relates to the metric time. Really, it's all about equally dividing time.

Spend some time with these lessons. It's all snare stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_notation

Then you've got a simple key for where each part of the kit belongs on the staff. Be aware that it can vary from chart to chart. Only slightly though, like in some charts, the hi hat will be above the top line (like in Kainen example) in others, the top line will be going through the note.

Don't worry yourself with that now. Spend at least a month on the top link.....

oliv_da_skinmasher 03-06-2008 11:59 AM

Sup guys

Kainen 03-06-2008 12:09 PM
