I agree, Tele's are pretty boring looking. But my point is that they PLAY nicely and can actually sound pretty good too.

Meh. I would only want to play something that I like the look of and the feel/sound of as well. Doesn't mean other people don't like it - look at the "Teles are sexy" responses round these parts.

Our guitarist has one that he really likes, and we recorded about half our album with it. Still don't like how it looks, but it's okay, because I don't play it, he does :)

What guitars do you like then?


Out of the teles, strats and jaguars (i know there are more Fender guitars but these are the most popular) I think the teles win aesthetically by a mile. Strats are ugly as poos unless they're worn in like a mother****er, which makes any instrument look cool lol.

Jaguars and Strats are quite sexy.

Teles aren't so bad either but I'm not totally into them.

As for the whole talk of brands and whatnot, I never liked any Fender instrument, really. I never liked their basses when I played them, don't care for Strats. Something about Teles, though, I love the look and sound.

Same thing for the Jazzmaster. I never knew I wanted one of these until I happened upon one at the music store. I picked it up and didn't put it down for a good 30-40 minutes without even realizing how much time had passed.

Hey, Joel, would you have any idea what would cause an amp to buzz? I know you know audio stuff, but I don't know if you're a gear guy.

Basically, it only buzzes when notes are played. If notes aren't being played, it's silent. If some effect is used to create some noise, it doesn't buzz. But when notes are played is the only time this buzz sound comes.

Any ideas?

the grille on my cab gets a little loose sometimes and when i play it buzzes against the screws. thats the only thing i can think of.

Is it a tube amp?






Edit: and yes you're right I'm definitely an audio guy, not a gear guy as much, but if it's a tube am I may have an idea.

To go back to guitars, I'd definitely take a Strat over a Tele any day of the week. A) They look better, and B) Their sound is infinitely better IMO. There's just some things you can only do on a Strat.

EDIT: Oh, and I wonder if that tattoo is proportional.

What guitars do I like? Les Paul doublecuts are awesome, but I don't like regular LPs.

Have you used your pickup selector switch to play between two pickups instead of soloing one of them? Have you tried playing your guitar through another amp?

It happens with any guitar I run through the amp, and not with my guitars through any other map. It is most definitely something with the amp, not my guitars.

Does your amp have a compressor or noise gate on it? Is it an electronic buzzing, or a physical "something is loose and about to fall off" buzzing?

It's curious that the buzzing only comes when you play a note. Most common buzz types (60 cycle hum, RF noise, etc) are prevalent regardless of whether or not the guitar is being played.

My next thought is a ground loop issue.

It sounds more like it's an electronic buzzing, but I'm not certain. It doesn't really sound like something is loose and rattling, but I don't know for sure.

I used to be a bigger fan of Strats, but playing with two guys who are practically physically attached to their Teles has made my opinion come around.

Well if it does have a tube a the pre amp stage it might have gone microphonic or some ****. Came across in a session about two weeks ago when I was recording my friends Fender Deluxe and all of sudden it was like this ringing buzzy sound. SO I went and go the techiest tutor we have and he said that the tubes had been worn down, tapped them and it sent the same noise through the rest of the amp. Tapped what I think was the power amp tubes and it didn't do it.

So if it is that (which I'm pretty sure it won't be but worth looking into) it'd just mean a replacement tube.


Or some other explanation that maybe edge could explain if he ever comes back lol.

The only strat I have ever liked the sound of is Frusciante's on the Live in Hyde Park DVD. He makes that thing scream man.

I have found the solution. Stop running your guitars through maps. Paper/plastic/cardboard/etc does not amplify signal very well.

I could never get into reverb pedals. Unless the sound guy is phenomenal, I hate when it's used live.

You hate it used live on everything or just bass?

It's mostly for recording and a couple of live songs. Mostly just because I want it, lol. I'll find practical live applications for it.
