I am currently in love with Serena Maneesh's self-titled album. Anyone listen to them?
I just got it the other day though I haven't listened to it yet. Read some good things about it.

The Make Up - In Mass Mind
Decemberists - The Tain

mentalstephanie 01-04-2006 05:23 PM
Serena Maneesh rules a lot. Check out My Bloody Valentine if you like them.
I love My Bloody Valentine.
Happymeal, you should definitely listen to it; it's worth it.

MerDeNoms 01-04-2006 05:49 PM

I've been listening to The Fall of Troy a lot recently.. they are I guess a progressive type band? Imagine The Mars Volta, but more intense, and less random noise.

The Postal Service has really been on my playlist a lot too.. Ben Gibbard is just an awesome songwritter/vocalist.

OrbDragon 01-04-2006 06:26 PM

I'm digging bit of 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields, although I somehow never seem to dig it as a whole.

I'm currently listening to Björk - Debut.

Yes, The Fall of Troy is a cool band.

BillCosby 01-04-2006 06:36 PM

Seeing them in 17 days. :)

This needs to be closed once 12,500 posts has been hit.

BillCosby 01-04-2006 06:47 PM

Why 12,500?

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 06:58 PM

I wanted it dead at 10,000 but namedroppers wanted to continue, so 12,500 seems like the next logical plateau.

dontchathink?

YDload 01-04-2006 07:03 PM

yeah i sure hate it when people post in this thread just so everyone can tell what bands they're listening to. where do they get off?!

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 07:14 PM

Started off with a decent principle (well if I remember correctly) but now people post like 20 different bands in a day of random clique-forced bands. I don't want my (user) name to be advertising this level of pretentiousness anymore.

guitarded_chuck 01-04-2006 07:41 PM

Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw

You've all heard of them by now. Awesome stuff.

MerDeNoms 01-04-2006 07:48 PM

^ Circa Survice = sex

el doctor 01-04-2006 07:57 PM

Good call on the Serena Maneesh album. "Drain Cosmetics" and "Un-Deux" happen to be my two favorite songs off the album and I think they're both fantastic. They're one of those bands though that don't really exist outside of the internet/music nerd community. :o

The Fiery Furnaces - Gallowsbird's Bark

Something compelled me to listen to this today. Unlike Blueberry Boat, I can actually stomach it all in one sitting.

el doctor 01-04-2006 08:01 PM
same.

as well as Circa Survive and Cat Power.

Tangy, I don't see what you're getting riled up about. What other purpose could this thread serve?
I can see why he's annoyed. I remember someone posted a few months ago to try and get people to put more effort into their posts, meaning, actually discuss what you're digging rather than just name dropping. It's just annoying when people constantly come in here and have a new album every day that's "omg the best album ever, seriously" without giving any explanation.

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 08:20 PM

Thankyou el-doctor.

If people were actually explaining why they dig, what kinda of band/artist it is, how to hear them etc... it would be all gravy. But instead it's just lines and lines of obscure bands that people have probably just d/led and thought "ooh, unknown math-rock/art-pop band, I'll go impress the boys".

I still think it should be closed. I'd start a v2.0 and lay out some guidelines if people were willing to abide.

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 08:22 PM

Check out the first page for examples of how I'd like to see it done again.

BillCosby 01-04-2006 08:27 PM

I've been diggin Stylex, They're a small band from Ohio who I found out about through myspace a year or so ago. They really aren't anything special, but they're fun to listen to and have occasional little spouts of brilliance. They remind of Brainiac at times, but dancier, but not quite as electro as Enon. They still can get down and dirty at times.

Thurr you go, homie.

oh and thanks for the note in the Zen Arcade review =)

NP ;) Please don't get upset and delete your review just cause I don't like it. You've clearly entertained a lot of people, or rather, everyone except me and pixiesfanyo.

Its coo, its coo

I bought Hangable Auto Bulb - Aphex Twin today, and I'm wondering exactly how many drugs he was on during the making of those two EP's. The first song has a kid saying mash potatoes over and over for 5 minutes

Happymeal 01-04-2006 10:19 PM

Ok, so for the past few weeks I've been caught up with The Make Up, I gave them a better listen since the vocals' girly yelling turned me off the first time. Having a great experience with Nation of Ulysses and Ian Svenonius' singing in Plays Pretty for Baby, plus liking Weird War/Scene Creamers(Ian's band right now) made me appreciate the grooviness of In Mass Mind more. I don't know how to describe them.. funk-inspired garage rock? I'll be hooked to them for a while, that's for sure.

And as for the album in my avatar.. I used to think Murder City Devils were just an OK band until I heard R.I.P.. I have In Name and Blood and heard a couple of songs from Empty Bottles, Broken Hearts but I wasn't really that impressed. Hearing them live made me a fan, the intensity of the band (not to mention their singer) on their last show is just unbelievable. If you haven't heard anything by them, I suggest this record since it's a good sum-up of their career, even though it doesn't really have much variety as far as the mood of the songs go. Pure rock 'n roll, that's what they are. Highlight tracks: "Midnight Service in the Mutter", "Boom Swagger Boom", "Waltz", "Cradle to the Grave"

There, good enough?

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 10:41 PM

That's more than enough dude. It's not really you I was pickin; out.

Great choices. Two of my favourite bands ever.

Show me where to sign up.

JonM 01-05-2006 12:29 AM

Freestyle Fellowship and everyone that descended from them, including Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, and Busdriver. I've been in to Busdriver for a long time, but I'm more into him now.

Zappa 01-05-2006 05:28 AM

Grecian Defense
Harmolo
Ambission

Like I've said before, Domestica is the best album of the decade so far. It's completely perfect for what it's going for and Kasher's vocal/guitar melodies are ace. If I could write just one song from this album I'd be estatic. That's what I've been digging.

moderaterock222 01-05-2006 09:48 AM

domestica reminds me of good times. i received it as a gift( :D ). took me ages to get into but when i finally did i felt cool:cool:

mentalstephanie 01-05-2006 04:52 PM

Yeah, that gift was from me.
I love Domestica. I find it has a little more edge than The Ugly Organ. It has this hard, raw sound/feel to it.

moderaterock222 01-05-2006 04:56 PM

calm down, i am very grateful. they're american too

Why'd you only give it a 4 on Sputnik if you consider it the best album of this decade?

br3ad_man 01-05-2006 05:56 PM

I've been listening to Mogwai mainly. I'm listening to some Dredg this morning. I don't think it's necessary to explain either of those bands because everyone has heard them already.

I've been diggin Rites of Spring. Epic as epic can be.

Because, I made that review awhile ago. And it's a grower.

I've been digging Bowie's Scary Monsters tonight. Fripp plays guitar. It's probably my favorite Bowie. Plus he doesn't **** around with all that faggoty dancewear labyrinth ****
