Endless Obsession 07-07-2005 09:31 PM

Does anyone know what riff from The Grudge was ripped off from Shine on You Crazy Diamond?

Lateralias 07-07-2005 09:32 PM
blair has talked a lot about area 51 and ****.. perhaps the new stuff maybe sci fi related?
He's talked about that for some time.. so has Danny.

LP|Stang 07-07-2005 09:33 PM
does the lp in yer name stand for linkin park. . . ?
Is it normal for you to jump to idiotic conclusions?

What if it did stand for Linkin Park? Should I leave the Tool thread?

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 09:33 PM
He's talked about that for some time.. so has Danny.
hmmm or maybe its just crap like that whole lachrymology thing at the begining

LP|Stang 07-07-2005 09:33 PM

Blair talks about a lot of pointless ****. I can't remember the last time I went to Toolband.com.

Lateralias 07-07-2005 09:34 PM
Does anyone know what riff from The Grudge was ripped off from Shine on You Crazy Diamond?
And where did you here that? Please elaborate if possible. :)

Is it idiotic that i assume that the letters LP stand for linkin park? the usual lp fan uses them like that.

If you want to. i dont mind your pressence

Endless Obsession 07-07-2005 09:35 PM
And where did you here that? Please elaborate if possible. :)
In the obvious influences thread someone mentioned that a riff from The Grudge was directly ripped from SOYCD.

BlindWriting 07-07-2005 09:36 PM

A lot of the regulars haven't been around at all lately.
Where's The Joz? Kage? Adam Jones Is God?

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 09:38 PM

Word up! but erm they talk to much about the covers.

Right now theyd enlighten us bigtime with the riff thingy

LP|Stang 07-07-2005 09:38 PM

I've never heard of this rip. You'd think a band wouldn't be careless enough to rip a Tool riff and think to get away with it.

Lateralias 07-07-2005 09:39 PM

Well I know Joz left because of a noob invasion on threads ( )

AJiG was posting yesterday I think... as for Kage.. dunno.

and about The Grudge - SOYCD riffage thing.. I don't know which part Jake could be speaking of... hmm...

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 09:40 PM
I've never heard of this rip. You'd think a band wouldn't be careless enough to rip a Tool riff and think to get away with it.
Its the other way around, tool ripped a riff of someone :thumb:

LP|Stang 07-07-2005 09:42 PM

My mistake. I'm still thinking it's not true.

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 09:43 PM

  why not?

Lateralias 07-07-2005 09:44 PM
I'm still thinking it's not true.
Yeah sounds kinda false.. I'm not finding it.

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 09:45 PM

lol lets wait till a regular passes by and enlightens us

Justin needs help at the polls!

LP|Stang 07-07-2005 09:47 PM

If it was true, we'd all have heard about it by now.

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 09:49 PM

I had haerd about it before. . . depends really on how much time you spend stalking tool. Some say they also took a riff from rush. . . wich aint really bad cause rush is teh ****

matt4 07-07-2005 10:03 PM

Okay, so I think it really seems like the "morse code" on the tool site says stittett. "Stittet" appears a lot on Norwegian websites, but I can't find it in any translator. The closest I can find is this:

"Sti" translates from Norwegian to English as: "path, stye, track"
"Tett" translates as:"airtight, bushy, closely, crass, dense, fixed, hermetic, solid, thick, thickset, tight, tighten, tightly"

"Fixed Path" is the best translation I can come up with for "Stittett". Maybe I'm way off. Maybe I'm retarded. It was still fun. :thumb:

Even if it does mean "fixed path", figuring out what that freak blair really means is impossible. He gets on my nerves so bad sometimes.

Futuro 07-07-2005 10:05 PM

havnet been on MX in 6 days, someone fill me in, any news with covers?

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 10:13 PM

chek a few pages back cause i havnt been paying attetion and the other involved in the covers ahvnt been around that much

Dried Muffin Remnants 07-07-2005 10:14 PM
Yes Isis are an awesome band, very atmospheric. Reminds me of Sigur Ros in a heavier way.
Agreed. I have heard them be classified as ambient metal and as sludge metal. They're definitely both. I like that they put so much emphasis on atmosphere and slow repetition. Very well-put-together music.
Thanks for the upload In Chains, I like this song... it's... strange, and interesting! But good so far.
Yup, definitely strange. And you're welcome... I'm glad it has become a trend to share music on here. :)

Yeah Blair is totally annoying at times.

Huber 07-07-2005 11:30 PM

Fixed Track? Track Fixed?

Something to do with the new record?

TerryThorne 07-07-2005 11:34 PM

sorry to break the conversation but I have a question that's really bugging me. In reflection from Lateralus, it is suggested that one should crucify the ego. This intrigues me because why would someone destroy one of the chakra's? My only guess is that he is talking about the idea of the ego as a sense of self-worth, and that you shouldn't let yourself be distracted by that because just being alive is worth.

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 11:37 PM

its disposition actually not reflection and what he means by that I assume is that we should destroy the bad ego. . the one that drives us to do unworthy things. But perhaps not the whole ego.:)

but dude assume watever you want out of it, you could be as right or wrong as anyone. . . only maynard knows :thumb:

Futuro 07-07-2005 11:41 PM
its disposition actually not reflection
nope its reflection, in disposition he just says "watch the weather change"

Otherside 07-07-2005 11:41 PM

Um... those lyrics are from Reflection. The Disposition ones are: Mention something to me; Watch the weather change.

Mr Herb 07-07-2005 11:44 PM

LOL true true. . .its 2 am sorry . . .dam :(

mention something mention anything . . great song

Futuro 07-07-2005 11:56 PM

i bought 13th step yesterday, it is alot better than mer de noms so far, i really like the package, but i havent listened to the whole cd yet

Lateralias 07-08-2005 12:01 AM
So crucify the ego before it's far too late
To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Just let the light touch you and let the words spill thorough
Just let them pass right through, bringing out our hope and reason.
I love this part of Reflection.. a very strong ending lyrically for the song.

dUSK 07-08-2005 12:05 AM
And where did you here that? Please elaborate if possible. :)
Jake knows about it. I'm sure he'll elaborate when he sees this.

EDIT: I was a page behind and didn't realise

jamesclelland 07-08-2005 12:42 AM
I love this part of Reflection.. a very strong ending lyrically for the song.
the guitar right after that is also very powerful, gives me goosebumbs, even playing it trying not to screw it up

Futuro 07-08-2005 01:45 AM

i think half of what makes "Reflection" so bad azz, is that repeating tribal tom pounding he does through the song, its very simple, but the note placement and the sound of his drums makes the song that much better for me.

on another note,
every one should "E-kickmyass" for not liking A perfect circle till' recently. Just got done with the cd 13th step, and am very glad to have boughten it. I like most of the songs alot, but one fault i have found in them, is that they're songs are too dam short

Huber 07-08-2005 01:53 AM

I'd E-kickyourass, but I used to dislike APC also.

centrum 07-08-2005 01:55 AM

If it is really morse code on the website. Which I would be inclined to think it is. It's hard telling what it is because it could be divided up to make a few different words. And I have actually been thinking that Blair has been giving hints about the album here and there for awhile. If I can find a particular one I will link it.

clearvision 07-08-2005 04:41 AM

Ermm there was the one what hinted to a mini tour with Isis, but that was months ago and still we have no werd.

Adam Jones is GOD 07-08-2005 04:47 AM

Still, nice that Blair finally made an official statement admitting he knows f-all.

Im getting more excited now, I know of very few bands who have performed the recording/writing process in such secrecy. Although I also agree with Blair's drug addiction link.

clearvision 07-08-2005 04:51 AM

He does know stuff, but is under contract not to say...

...that's what ig ot from that update.
