Metallica are one of those bands that sound just as good live as they do studio. Bothers me when bands can't pull off their songs live..sounds horrible.
Instument wise they do a good job. Better in most cases. Same with vocals. But does anybody else get turned off when he sings Nothing Else Matters? I don't like it much live.

Hey Dream, I'm planning on getting a Dream Theater CD today after work, anything you can recommend?

munky_magik 01-18-2005 04:14 PM

Try Scenes from a Memory. or maybe Awake.
If you like heavy shreddy stuff get Train of Thought.

EDIT: just for the record, I do realise that I'm not DT. I just felt like answering

very true. the only thing differently nowadays is that hetfield is getting older so his vocals aren't as great as they were 20 years ago, but the music is still as good/better than the studio

Train of Thought is next on my DT buying list, though I want them all eventually.

I personally think that Hetfield's voice sounded best on the Load era albums. In the earlier days his voice was too high, and now its starting to be more limited. But on Load/Reload/Garage Inc./S&M he has both a gravity and a maturity
that was pretty odd/random...
Yeah I thought so too

Mister_Che 01-18-2005 04:56 PM

Random indeed, but it's pretty interesting to go "Holy crap, there ARE people like that."
Master of Puppets is such an amazing song. I love the thrashy feel to it.
I'd say one of Metallica's Thrashiest songs would have to be disposable heros.

metallicamaniac16 01-18-2005 06:41 PM
I think the most prominent example would be Master of Puppets. his vox on S&M sounded better in my opinion.
I think James's voice sounds a whole lot better in the studio. His voice is much more (how do i say this to make it sound right?) rough and hardcore in the studio. In concert he doesn't sing as forcefully as he does in the studio. Please let me know if anyone understood that. :thumb:

Definitely. That is one amazing song.

broadiscool 01-18-2005 07:47 PM

metallica is the best band ever. they have the best medleys and riffs ever. ive had an encounter with the band and they are all real nice guys and should deserve a lot of credit. My favourite songs are: Battery, sanitarium, nmater of puppets and seek and destroy

Rasta Rocker 01-18-2005 07:51 PM

hard to say. the first four albums are equally good in my opinion.

metal_milita 01-18-2005 11:37 PM

if you don't want to get *** flamed around here, make the effort to spell (good tip)

One isn't their best IMO. Should be something like Ride the Lightning or MOP.
Can't say anything about their DVD's tho, i've only seen Cliff 'Em All.

Leper 01-18-2005 11:49 PM

IMO their best album is MOP, no contest.

Freezing Moon 01-19-2005 12:15 AM

I'd have to say I like MOP the best, but I respect Ride The Lightning the most out of them all because it was the first metal album I owned. My tastes have expanded, but I still respect the hell out of that album for getting me into metal.

Leper 01-19-2005 12:50 AM

What's the general opinion on how long a noob is a noob before he/she is no longer a noob?...if that made any sense..

Huber 01-19-2005 12:54 AM

I used to like MOP the best. Now I'm starting to lean towards RTL more. I don't know. I guess it isn't important. There all amazing albums.

hammet_ownz 01-19-2005 05:28 AM

i like kill em all better, but i love creeping death, fade to black and bells from RTL
from there it seemed the albums just had four or five amazing songs and the others were just filling the space

acefrehleyjendell 01-19-2005 06:03 AM

hey guys. i don't know the whole metallica fan stance on this but do any of
you guys like megadeth? i'm not into that whole fued thing and i reckon there a kick *** band.

i also love 'Tallica. My favourite album would be Kill 'EM All.

acefrehleyjendell 01-19-2005 06:05 AM
I used to like MOP the best. Now I'm starting to lean towards RTL more. I don't know. I guess it isn't important. There all amazing albums.
I thought the black album was kinda pompous.
I actually liked Re-Load better than Black.

you get two kinds.
a newb = someone who is new to the board.
a n00b = an idiotic poster, who doesn't know/care about any of the rules and can't type properly.

smellslikeshoes 01-19-2005 08:45 AM

Hey guys I just wanted to post this link. Some guys have put together a petition calling for metallica to sever their working releationship with Bob rock http://www.petitiononline.com/SaveMet/

munky_magik 01-19-2005 08:49 AM

what's the point? If 'tallica want to keep working with Bob Rock then the fans should respect their desires and just fucking deal with it. I mean how ridiculosly petty minded can you get?

floyd.the.barber 01-19-2005 08:53 AM

i hope the next album is better than st anger, the songs on that go on too long and get annoying

I'mhungryForASandwich 01-19-2005 08:55 AM

"The thing that should not be" and "Of Wolf and man" sound very simular...

Sanatarium sounds alot like bleak

Best albums:
Ride The Lightning:
Just every song on this album is amazing, one of the only albums I can listen to the whole way through and not skip a second of the music. Great album 10/10
Kill em All:
Great album, definately one of my favourites, I love each song on this album, but, unfortunately, it gets a little old to me, so I find myself skipping songs... Another great album 7.5/10
Master of Puppets:
A great album - Metallica's best? No. Although this album is amazing in every way that Ride The Lightning is, if not more, but I find myself listenning to Ride The Lightning more. Every song on this album is a masterpiece, but they should have finished the album with an instrumental (Like Ride The Lightning :P) instead of having Damage, Inc after... :( 9/10

Heh, sorry, it's late I can't sleep, or maybe I can now...

AJ Frampton 01-19-2005 11:06 AM

The only song after black album that I like is The Unforgiven II, the rest sound ****ty to me..
