Who likes my new avatar?

Mullet? NO.
You can see the mullet much better in the old one.

BludgeonySteve 10-24-2004 05:05 PM

That's because there is no mullet in my new one. It's just long-ish everywhere. Hense, no mullet.

Although, Hell To Pay>See The Light. I may switch back, i'm still deciding.

jpj 10-24-2004 05:06 PM
The Darkness are far better than Jet though. They're not exactly original, but they're music is more fun to listen to, and, as a band, they're definitely more talented.
I actually like The Darkness, but they're have no where near the amount of talent of any classic rock band.

Kevbo 10-24-2004 05:09 PM

at my school they made our theme for the year "rockin' with pride," so at assemblies and stuff they play rock instead of rap now. it kicks ***.

as for classic rock, i have to say that the doors are probably on top of my list.

thickasabrick 10-24-2004 05:22 PM

i think jets music is just good for a fun time...no real musical credibility or songwriting skills are shown, but at least they are trying to do something.

TerryThorne 10-24-2004 05:25 PM

If you heard their new single they take a line from a Beatle's song word for word. And its not a cover

drugstore cowboy 10-24-2004 05:28 PM

Jet's "Rollover DJ" is very similar to the Guess Who's "Takin' Care of Business"...and also the name is 'similar' to Mr. Berry's song..

Speaking of school anthems, our team name is the St. Mary's Thunder. So guess which song we get to listen to?..at every sporting event..and every assembly...on every announcements...over, and over, and over again...

thickasabrick 10-24-2004 05:37 PM
I don't even think it's catchy though, as I'd be prepared to listen to it otherwise...seriously, stuff like The Darkness, out of newer bands, and Queen, out of older ones, fill that role so much better that I don't see any need for Jet. And they are just so shamelessly unoriginal that I'd rather listen to the song they ripped off.
ya thats true. the darkness arent exactly original, they havent done anything new in their music...but at least they have talent and arent afraid of showing it, unlike most bands around now who even if they have talent, they dont really show it.

thickasabrick 10-24-2004 05:43 PM

anyone here read poetry just because you know it inspired a musician you like?

i have read a lot of Arthur Rimbauds poems because Jim Morrison was a big fan of his. and today i went and got out a collection of Dylan Thomas poems because thats where bob dylan took his last name from.
any other poets/artists you guys know who have inspired someone you like?

edit- may sound lame, but if it worked for them, it might work for me.

Badmoon 10-24-2004 05:44 PM

You guys should download some stuff from Wilco. They are an Alt (loosely concerning early days) Country band. And are from Chicago!

Little off topic ...

Do you listen to GDradio.net?

Badmoon 10-24-2004 05:57 PM

I've heard some stuff off of it I believe, on my friend's computer though.

BludgeonySteve 10-24-2004 06:03 PM

Since we're off topic this is a good time to congradulate Medopalis on his 100th post in this thread. He's now a regular :)

Badmoon, do you like my new avatar? ;)

Badmoon 10-24-2004 06:06 PM

Uhh, I'm pretty sure Bachman Turner Ovedrive wrote Takin' Care of Business.

Badmoon 10-24-2004 06:22 PM
Thanks guys...and I'm looking forward to getting into much more classic rock now that I've been exposed to, and liked, the Grateful Dead.
Good.

I'm thinking about writing up an essay stating why The Grateful Dead are better than any band anyone can name.

BludgeonySteve 10-24-2004 06:25 PM

I would be interested to hear your urguemetns, examples and supporting statements.

But don't post it on mx or else you will get alot of "Lol liek metlica ledz zepoil r teh beter lol" posts.

Badmoon 10-24-2004 06:33 PM

Yea, of course it will be mostly opinion, but they covered a lot of ground, and I've heard tons to make a great argument.

Badmoon 10-24-2004 06:34 PM

Everyone into the chat!

BludgeonySteve 10-24-2004 07:01 PM

New poll is up. Round 2 this time.

BludgeonySteve 10-24-2004 07:02 PM

RockAndRoll 10-24-2004 07:15 PM

Ugh, sometimes writing songs is hard!

Badmoon 10-24-2004 07:37 PM

Too bad wuss!

RockAndRoll 10-24-2004 07:38 PM
Too bad wuss!
pfft, I'll show you, this song is going to be the most beautiful thing you'll ever have the joy of listening too!

drugstore cowboy 10-24-2004 08:05 PM
Uhh, I'm pretty sure Bachman Turner Ovedrive wrote Takin' Care of Business.
arg, i knew that, i really did.. :upset:

magicbus 10-24-2004 08:56 PM

I want to learn (more) piano, harmonica, sitar, slide guitar, and I think thats it. I don't feel like commenting on anything else, except I'll check out the polls.

Badmoon 10-24-2004 09:04 PM

Well, good luck. Sitar is such a lifestyle, and so hard to find lessons.

And I consider myself okay at slide. Well, more so than the other's I know.

magicbus 10-24-2004 09:27 PM

Yea I've fooled around with a bottleneck slide, and I'm gettin the hang of it, but I wanna try pedal slide too.

ALSO. Anybody listen to The Zombies?

thickasabrick 10-24-2004 09:54 PM

i have a slide, although i have really learned any good songs on it other than In My Time of Dying. it sounds so sloppy when i play it though.

i would kill for a sitar

and i have a harmonica, although its weird and it doesnt have a certain key so i cant play it the way the internet tries to tell me.

Seafroggys 10-24-2004 10:44 PM
I can play A Day In The Life on piano.
I assume its the last chord. Do you know what chord that is?

And for thou who said it....songwriting is so fun! I've written 40+ rock songs in the past 4 years entirely on my computer (full score and everything).

We need to do the same thing and share our music, see how classic rock influenced it is!

RockAndRoll 10-25-2004 03:05 PM

The last chord is probably not an 'actual' chord, just a made up one for the sake of getting that dissonant sound they wanted.

Time of the Seasons...

Badmoon how's that banjo fingerpicking coming along?

gmoneyguy 10-25-2004 03:07 PM

I love to make up chords on guitar (as far as I know anyways).

I'm getting some harmonicas this week from Musician's Friend.

IAJP 10-25-2004 03:10 PM

I play slide guitar...

Badmoon 10-25-2004 03:21 PM
Badmoon how's that banjo fingerpicking coming along?
Tough, but progressivley good. I need a new thunmb pick, but I have came along with my metal finger picks.

Speaking of Slide Guitar, I learned Statesboro Blues a while back. Took me a long time :)

San Andreas comes out today :D

gmoneyguy 10-25-2004 03:29 PM

GTA is overrated. I always get bored with it.

Badmoon 10-25-2004 03:33 PM
GTA is overrated. I always get bored with it.
gmoneyguy 10-25-2004 03:35 PM
