yea life is looking pretty good right now.

if only the guitar shop would call me and tell me when my JP sig is coming!!! it's been 3 months...

Chu 06-02-2006 11:37 PM

Marty Friedman has a huge list of music to his name.

Cacophony, Solo and Megadeth (Possible other bands too?).

If you haven't heard any of his solos stuff, I really suggest getting Dragon's Kiss, or Music For Speeding before you get this album.

I prefer Music For Speeding, but Dragon's Kiss is still an awesome CD.

I would love Friedman and Petrucci in a new sort of Cacophony-esque shred band.

ghettoeddo 06-03-2006 01:42 AM

i have a few songs from cacophony like concerto, desert island, speed metal symphony...is that what his solo stuff is like? neo-classical shredding?

cuz then it's like yngwie and i dont like that stuff much :\

Liquid Fantasy 06-03-2006 07:39 AM

Does anyone know when DT is doing another southamerican tour?
I missed them when they came :upset:.

Moses 06-03-2006 09:32 AM

I need ToT still. I think I'll get it today or tomorrow.

Probably when the next album comes out.
So I think a year or two.

Clunge 06-03-2006 12:39 PM

I am in love with Octavarium, the album is by far my favourite DT album now by quite some way.

The title track matches Close To The Edge for extreme awesomeness to my ears, and that used to be my fave epic.

Element of LED 435 06-03-2006 04:42 PM

i agree

Dragon's Kiss is similar to the stuff he did with Cacophony, since it was written around the same, and I think Marty wrote the majority of Cacophony's music too. The only other solo album of his I have is Music for Speeding, which was in the Daily Upload a few weeks ago. I haven't listened to it all, but the songs I have listened to remind me of Satch.

i think EVERY dream theater album is superb. save WDADU and FII which are just a LITTLE bit below everything else for me. i could not for the life of me choose my favorite album/song although blind faith has been playing for the past few hours nonstop.
yeayea im a fanboy im not gonna lie.

Friedmans solo stuff isn't really like Cacophony

Marty Friedman plays real random stuff, some of the songs sound like Cacophony, others sounds like J-Pop.

ghettoeddo 06-04-2006 01:10 AM

haha sounds like a talented man.
ill be sure to pick him up.
*his album. ew.

we've discussed portnoy, petrucci, labrie and rudess/moore/sheriinarininnarngan a lot so far. well...for the time i've been a regular in this thread anyway.
but what about that korean guy, myung? come ooooonnn people :smoke:
go koreans \m/

Chu 06-04-2006 01:59 AM

Hehe, there was a favourite band member sort of poll before, and I believe the majority of people said Myung.

heavy metal kid 06-04-2006 02:18 AM

Myung is the coolest member of the band, he writes the best lyrics, he doesn't talk too much and he invented the powerful and deadly "Myung takle".

Chu 06-04-2006 02:27 AM

Portnoy said it will be done in september.

Lord Abortion 06-04-2006 10:26 AM

Whilst revising in a bored way...I came up with my current Ideal DT set.

Surrouded
Home
Trial of Tears
Misunderstood
Voices
The silent man
........................
This dying soul
Take away my pain
Goodnight kiss
solitary shell
Hollow years
Metropolis
..........................
Sacrificed sons
Disappear
The answer lies within
Vacant//In the name of God
About to Crash
The spirit carries on
.........................................
Wait for sleep//Learning to live
A change of seasons

I might make a playlist of this...no live versions of misunderstood or ATC (or obviously the 8VM tracks)

Jev 06-04-2006 11:05 AM

Yes, when I try and make perfect setlists they always end up to be 7 hours long.

I think it should go Vacant/SOC/In the name of god.

Lord Abortion 06-04-2006 11:09 AM

Yeah, I'm going to hold the world to ransom with an A-Bomb, and make Maiden, Iced Earth and DT headline my 3-day festival.

I choose the sets:mad:

Why stop there. Add Megadeth and a few other bands to the bill.

Lord Abortion 06-04-2006 11:19 AM

Already there. As are Blind Guardian, Cannibal Corpse, Sonata Arctica, Dragonforce, Judas Priest, Cathedral and many others.

/hatches plan.

GenuineImitation 06-04-2006 11:21 AM

Make sure that Priest play a few songs off of Painkiller.

i call front-row seats to this gargantuan 3-day festival. although the way things are looking...how about a week?
