VISA2269 Studies in the Renaissance: Italian Art History and Theory of the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries

This unit enables students to identify key works of painting and sculpture from the fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Italy and to discuss them in relation to a variety of social determinants. Study of the writings of Alberti and Vasari introduce students to the foundations of art theory and to the origins of art historical language in the Western tradition. Both examination of the fundamental revaluation of self which occurred during the Renaissance and study of the foundations of modern art history aid students’ comprehension of subsequent art history and theory, and artistic conventions of the present day.

yeah ill already be doing a unit on older art in some unit focusing on velazquez and some others (which should be interesting), so doing one on renaissance might be shitty

all of these are electives to fill in spaces anyway, easy marks. i got high distinctions for both the art history units i did this semester.
