no... seriously, he is.

publicastration 12-09-2007 02:48 PM

So he's like an unfinished Michael Jackson?

NemesisDivina 12-09-2007 02:52 PM

yes.

...they're turning into one of my more favorite death metal bands.

NP: Phantoms (of the Oath)

discuss

Angmar 12-09-2007 02:53 PM

I still only have The God that Never Was, I'm gonna go download Like an Ever Flowing Stream right now. :D

I love their vocals so much.

NemesisDivina 12-09-2007 02:57 PM

Yeah, they really grew on me as promised. I downloaded Like An Everflowing Stream yesterday, but I still haven't gotten a chance to listen to it, my brother's band (Bergtagen) is over at the moment.

publicastration 12-09-2007 03:00 PM

Anyone like Gorefest?

Their latest kicks ***.

NemesisDivina 12-09-2007 03:02 PM

No. We're discussing Dismember. Have you heard them, Luc?

publicastration 12-09-2007 03:03 PM

Of course.

The God That Never Was is fantastic.

NemesisDivina 12-09-2007 03:05 PM

Yeah, it's reeeeeally good. It has some of the best guitar leads I've heard in death metal on there.

Phantoms (Of the Oath) is good but not one of my favorites from TGTNW. i like Trail of the Dead better. and I didn't expect P(otO) to be instrumental. Overall the album is very good, but Dismember definitely isn't one of my favorite bands. When we're talking SweDeath Carnage kills them imo, not to mention a ton of other forgotten bands who only released one album.
So he's like an unfinished Michael Jackson?
Angsteve, SymbolicMatt, and Hbp have already settled on the technical term "Oreo". :)

Tyler 12-09-2007 03:27 PM

You have to stop acting like a band who put out one album kills a band that's been putting out consistently amazing albums for nearly 20 years. Especially since Dismember's vocalist and guitarist were in Carnage, thus making "Carnage slays them" a ridiculous statement.

rattlehead42147 12-09-2007 03:30 PM

Well I'm pretty sure you're not too big on Trivium, but as you said, Heafy was in Capharnaum, a band you do like. So saying "Capharnaum slays Trivium" wouldn't be so ridiculous would it?

I just mean I like Dark Recollections better than anything Dismember has put out.

NemesisDivina 12-09-2007 03:33 PM

I'd say that Where No Ghost Is Holy is my favorite off of TGTNW.

Sup Oreo.

Tyler 12-09-2007 03:38 PM

What the ****? I made a post replying to that Trivium comment and it's vanished....

Well, in short:
Well I'm pretty sure you're not too big on Trivium, but as you said, Heafy was in Capharnaum, a band you do like. So saying "Capharnaum slays Trivium" wouldn't be so ridiculous would it?
It's not ridiculous but that's because
1) Heafy was on one Capharnaum album
2) They, as noted, have more than one album
3) Heafy wasn't a songwriter.

So it's not the same at all.
Doing covers is the best way to get a tight sound as a band. Since you're a one man band this doesn't apply obviously, but doing covers is also a way to reinterpret an influence on oneself and give the listener a perspective on your music by showing how it relates to another band. Obviously recording a cover note for note is a bit pointless .
I've only been doing this solo thing for 2 years. I've been in plenty of bands, and this mindset was prevailent with all of us.

It's not like I'm saying, "you're a retard if you play covers". As I said multiple times, for me personally it doesn't get me anywhere. I already settled the discussion with my full reasoning from both sides of the point; I don't feel like repeating myself. It doesn't interest me, but I can see how it would be helpful for others. I simply wish a lot of players would focus more on the basics than copying other people's tunes.

Masterchaos, 23-17=6=1st grade. Do your math before you insult others, you flaming retard. Oh, and Kerry King does nothing but shred in chromatic scales, employing no use of theory whatsoever. Half of his **** is shredding improv. He is the dirt underneath other guitarists feet, and I make that statement with absolute conviction.

Matt Heafy did vocals for Capharnaum on "Fractured", before Trivium was formed

rattlehead42147 12-09-2007 05:47 PM
Especially since Dismember's vocalist and guitarist were in Carnage, thus making "Carnage slays them" a ridiculous statement.
what I'm really trying to say is that they wrote better material for Carnage than Dismember imo. yes i know its one album, i happen to be a Carnage fanboy, my apologies.

Fractured*

That's what I said

Oh I know that. I was just amused by rattle's process of thinking I guess.

i am the robots 12-09-2007 05:58 PM

You're on par with him tbh.
That's what I said
I'm sorry baby. :/

So am I really a shitty poster? I thought I had gotten better tbh.

Its ok, I'm still here to make you look good. :thumb:

jrowa001 12-09-2007 07:01 PM

does anybody like Demiurg?

rattlehead42147 12-09-2007 07:11 PM

alright i finally got my cover of Uroboric Forms recorded, its by no means perfect. For one I don't have a distortion pedal so i had no way to make the switch from distortion to clean sound smooth. Also it was done on a 4track so dont expect it to sound like something out of Morrisound.
http://www.mediafire.com/?0dm0nmdzbtm
and Paul's solo was pretty much butchered, i could have re-recorded it but I prefer Jason's anyway.
does anybody like Demiurg?
I do a little.

Hrimthursum 12-09-2007 08:00 PM

Anybody a fan of Angelcorpse, old Divine Empire, or Bloodbath?

rattlehead42147 12-09-2007 08:01 PM

definitely not Bloodbath, and I've only heard like one Angelcorpse song.

Hrimthursum 12-09-2007 08:03 PM

Though they have other (as I hear better) material, I have Of Lucifer and Lightening. Check it out.

What don't you like about Bloodbath (besides the horrendous guitar sound lol)?

Angmar 12-09-2007 08:05 PM

The production on Resurrection Through Carnage completely kills it for me :-/

Hrimthursum, are you a Death fan?

Tyler 12-09-2007 08:07 PM
I have Of Lucifer and Lightening.
Definitely top 5 worst albums released in 2007.

Hrimthursum 12-09-2007 08:09 PM
Definitely top 5 worst albums released in 2007.
I heard they had better material...apparantly it completely slays this one then. I didn't enjoy the production of it, but thought it had some good moments.

Angmar--Death is actually a toss up for me. I once owned the Live in L.A. disc ('twas given to me) and did not like it at all. Since then I've heard some supposedly older Death and liked it a little more, but still can't quite get into it. Though everyone I know thinks I'm a fool, 'tis just not my thing I guess.
