Robert Crumb 12-30-2005 12:41 PM

Terence Trent D'arby - Symphony or Damn

This is a really curious album. It's not very good, though.

Ornery Cephalopod 12-30-2005 01:29 PM

Just now got around to finally checking out some Brainiac.

Diggin' so far.

Does Senses Fail get their name from ripping off Sense Field or is that just a crazy coincidence?

Shadius 12-30-2005 06:32 PM
Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
DJ Shadow - Entroducing
Sigur Ros - ( )

That's my partying music.

Since I had a party.
Thats terrible party music; so low key and down-beat for the most part.

Good albums though.

I have that album, but i've never listened to it. Guess i should, who do they sound like?

Me and some friends have been diggin':

Ghost Mice - s/t
Nas - Illmatic
Bad Religion - No Control

TalkingHead 12-30-2005 07:52 PM

It has somewhat of a world music flavour to it with a strage mixture of shoegazer kinda jazz and dreamy blues feel, and Jennifer Charles has the sexist voice you could ever imagine. The songwriting is great too. Rather euphoric. Imagine sitting in a empty jazz club on a rainy night when suddenly a seductive singer comes on stage and begins whispering on the mic. That's pretty much how the entire listening experince is like.

Bukowski 12-30-2005 07:56 PM

Well that sounds cool. I dig alot of shoegaze music, i love jazz, and i know nothing about world music. I'll listen to it just now.

Edit: I'm on track 3, Timing is Everything, and i can see what you mean about the singer. Her voice oozes sexiness, as stupid as that sounds. And yeah, its pretty dreamy - i can imagine just sitting back and losing myself amongst it all. I'm really digging the singer, and i especially liked the first song. So all good so far.

I still haven't gotten Zen Arcade in the mail, it was supposed to be a Christmas present :(

Daniel! 12-30-2005 08:23 PM

I just bought it yesterday. It'll be worth the wait.

Bukowski 12-30-2005 08:27 PM

Yeah, it's one of my favorite albums.

Wow, Elysian Fields are very good.

Watchman 12-30-2005 08:28 PM
I like it.
It's my first album by them. Like it so far.

Bukowski 12-30-2005 08:31 PM

Yeah, i'm quite new to The Fall as well. I've heard one album, Hex Enduction Hour, and i really liked it. I bought an album of theirs yesterday, Grotesque (After the Gramme), but I've still not listened to it yet.

Jawaharal 12-30-2005 09:03 PM

Today its been Old 97's and Cowboy Junkies

Bukowski 12-30-2005 09:06 PM
I never got into The Fall. I was turned on to them and Gang Of Four at the same time, but the Fall... fell off my radar pretty quickly.
Yeah, they're a pretty hard band to get into - it took me a while to really like HEH, but it was worth it.

Man, that Elysian Fields album was very good.

TalkingHead 12-30-2005 09:06 PM
Yeah, it's one of my favorite albums.

Glad you're digging it as much as I have. They really are good and their other albums are just as good. My first live show was seeing them in a tiny little club in Paris, and man, Jennifer is as sexy as she sounds.

Bukowski 12-30-2005 09:14 PM
Jennifer is as sexy as she sounds.
!!!

Thta sounds like a sweet firsrt show. Were they good live?

And now if you'll excuse me, i'm off to find some pics of this Jennifer chick.

I'll Take The Veil 12-30-2005 09:22 PM

I'm really digging Digital Ashes In A Digital Urn By Bright Eyes, its just so different than his other stuff. Some find him boring but I think his work is great. I am also currently liking Of Montreal- Satanic Panic In The Attic, and Figure 8 by Elliott Smith. I bought them all on christmas day and am very happy with the three.

TalkingHead 12-30-2005 09:24 PM

Oh it was! It was magnificent, she entranced every single soul in the place, and we all had a hazy gaze in our eyes after it. As mellow and intimate as gig could ever be. She rules.

I haven't listened to the Fiery Furnaces in a long time. I miss Blueberry Boat :(

Happymeal 12-30-2005 11:51 PM

I still don't get that album. Blegh

OrbDragon 12-31-2005 02:34 AM

Yeh, Elysian Fields are good. Have you heard the song "Bend Your Mind" yet?
