Haha, cool. Twould be good I must say. It's not a big enough venue for DT I think though. I saw them at the Civic Hall in Wolves, that's an awsome venue for bands like DT.
The only guy there with shaved hair lol. I was on the far right of the barrier all gig, right next to the speakers.
Stop making me feel jealous :upset:

Cool avatar anyway

nowitzki 11-28-2005 01:19 PM
When, Baying Of The Hounds, White Cluster ( ), Deliverance, and a track off first album that I havent heard before. I got right to the front, and the girl next to me got the tracklist. Which was annoying for 2 reasons, as I didnt get it, and I saw A Fair Judgement as the track they had to cut.

Good to know someone else on mx was there. :thumb:
Yup, I was there, it was amazing. Mikael is such a funny guy, he kept cracking jokes in between songs.

The 2 girls we gave a lift home to were at the barrier on the right hand side, and one of them got a setlist, one had pink dreadlocks and one had black hair...

Jude 11-28-2005 01:20 PM

They played a song off Orchid?

nowitzki 11-28-2005 01:28 PM

Yeah, right before it Mikael was saying most people probably wont know it, and its really disjointed so people might not like it, but they'll play it anyway just so we can see what they were like in the early days. Hardly the best way of building a song up  but it was really cool.

I was standing next to them all gig

I think I remember the Orchid track was Under The Weeping Moon, but being my first time of hearing it, im going on familiarity memory of what was said.

Do you have the album to compare the song you heard to the album tracks?

I'd really love to know what old-school tracks they're starting to play on tours. I would especially love it if they'd bring Advent and To Bid You Farewell back into the setlist.

armthehomeless 11-28-2005 04:52 PM

just got back from the gig in Glasgow. Totally awesome, best gig ever. I was a bit gutted they didn't play Baying of The Hounds but they did play Under The Weeping Moon ( i was really hoping this would be The Night And Silent Water when they were introducing it). I got myself a zip up hoody, which cost me the ridiculous price of £30. Guess thats what student loans are for

nowitzki 11-28-2005 04:57 PM

The song was Under the Weeping Moon.

Where are you from in Leicestershire AJIG?

That price isnt bad at all for official merch, I've seen things much more expensive. At Dream Theater you could buy shirts for £50.

And we got Baying of the Hounds :p

Stoo 11-28-2005 05:33 PM

So I just saw Opeth in Glasgow.(Which sold out)... I'll say this, I creamed myself on several occasions.

And if you havn't guessed it already, it was awesome. I didn't get a setlist or anything but they deff played...:

Ghost Of Perditon
When
Requiem
White Cluster
Bleak!!
The Grand Conjuration
Under The Weeping Moon
Deliverance
Demon Of The Fall

I think that's it. Not in order. (Except the 1st four).

Bought the mad Opeth flag thing and a nice longlseeve tee. :thumb:

I talked myself out of buying the official Opeth thong...

nowitzki 11-28-2005 05:48 PM

What did you think of the support band Burst?
I thought they were pretty good, much better than I expected them to be.

Stoo 11-28-2005 05:53 PM

Yeah, best suppert I've seen. But that's mainly because they usually suck.

Mikael is well funny.

Mikael: If you smell **** tonight, it's me. I'm not well.
Crowd: Semi-Aww.
Mikael: But don't worry, for Heavy Metal... I do anything.
Crowd: *Go wild* :p

Mikael: We have been around for 15 years... We, Are Legends. :smoke:

He kept sayin about how they are legends, and he is right!!

Moses 11-28-2005 07:04 PM

I'd say 20 years would make them legends.

nowitzki 11-28-2005 07:11 PM

Before Baying of the Hounds he went "This song is about Burt Reynolds and anal sex"

Killtacular 11-28-2005 07:16 PM

Killtacular 11-28-2005 07:48 PM
The piano song?
Isn't that Silhouette?

Deth 11-28-2005 07:52 PM

Oops, my bad. Indeed.

Toaster 11-28-2005 07:55 PM

It's happened to everyone. :)

Did you guys know that the beginning of The Apostle In Triumph is supposed to be the end of Requiem, but whoever produced/recorded the album screwed it up? Kinda cool fact.

That's interesting. It always annoys me when I get to the 10 seconds of silence.

BlindWriting 11-28-2005 08:40 PM

These setlists keep getting better, I've got to see them live.

TojesDolan 11-28-2005 10:31 PM

One question: Did they play Bleak with only two guitars? I always wondered how they'd pull that song off live...

Hells Bells 11-28-2005 10:44 PM

Yeah, they did it with two guitars.
Speaking of Bleak, I threw on my Blackwater Park cd the other day and have been addicted to Bleak since...it has such an erie, unearthly atmosphere.

The keyboards help on that one.

TojesDolan 11-28-2005 10:59 PM

mmm... Supercool. I still can't figure out the two electrics+acoustic stuff. But anyhow it should sound awesome.

Bleak has this... I don't know. The clean lyrics are amazing. "Devious movements in your eyes, moved me from relief..." I have a certain affection for the clean vocals... but the growl'd ones are good to relieve stress.

Cain 11-28-2005 11:03 PM

Bleak admittedly sounds a bit funny with just two guitars. It's mostly due to the fact that the leads aren't Ebowed and mixed low with reverb like they are on the recording. When Mikael plays them, it's with his loud saturated distortion sound. All things considered, though, the song really didn't suffer for it, except during the part where there's like a hundred guitars tracked on the recording.

The Drapery Falls suffers much more noticably from the lead mix change.

Hells Bells 11-28-2005 11:29 PM

The part when Mikael sings

Moving
I am moving closer to your side
Luring
You are luring me into the night

sends shivers down my spine whenever I hear it.

When I heard Bleak at the concert, I hadn't listened to it for a really long time, I completely forgot about all the layering. I thought it sounded fine live.

And they played The Drapery Falls when you saw them Cain? I'm so jealous...it's one of my favourite Opeth songs.
