High Hopes video.. Strange. o.O Makes me want one of them big fuggin kite type.. THINGS even more! |
Concerning the Division Bell:
I've never really been able to gel with this record. Sure, it's got a few great tracks (Marooned, Poles Apart and High Hopes) but overall it just isn't a satisfying album. It's evident that Gilmour actually TRIED to write decent song lyrics this time around but a majority of them are just juvenile and clunky. He uses the words, "you" and "me" far too much. Finally, it's a musically rich album. The Division Bell really shows how talented Wright, Gilmour and Mason are on their respective instruments. Wright and Gilmour have a unique chemistry and the best example of this would be on Marooned. It's a decent album, I'd recommend downloading first and then buy it if you like it. Or if you're like me, buy it for the sake of completionism. |
Well by The Wall time period, Waters was basically just interested in writing and singing. Gilmour played bass on a lot The Wall and on live tours Roger hired someone to play bass so he could focus more on singing and putting on a show.
During the live show they kept the shadow band to play most of the show, so that worked out for Roger. Shadow Roger
It's all pretty much relaxation music, nothing like what Floyd is supposed to be.
Who are you to say what a Floyd album should be? On a side note, Pink Floyd were planning on releasing an ambient album, but never got around to it. |
Dude, the album just sucks like hell. It doesn't come close to normal Pink Floyd. I don't know what happened to them during that time, but everything good about Pink Floyd is gone in that album, except for, as I already said, the nice guitar solos. And the trippy pictures.

They did tons of videos, I believe. Especially for their more popular songs; Money, ABITW2, etc.

you missed my point, so I will just ignore you
They did tons of videos, I believe. Especially for their more popular songs; Money, ABITW2, etc.
They had a video for every song they played live actually. |

High Hopes video.. Strange. o.O Makes me want one of them big fuggin kite type.. THINGS even more!
Yeah, thats pretty weird. I saw it a while ago on the Echoes Website. Cool video, though.
that must have been the only music video they did. or is there another one? (besides the Wall obviously)
They made tons, and played them on a big screen behind them on their late 80s/90s tours. You can see them on A Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse. |
aussie floyd use them. the one for "shine on" is very cool, I wish i could find it somehwere.
Is pulse out yet?
Yea they made alotta films for their shows
The DVD isn't out yet, I got the concert a while ago from someone on here. |
Sometimes I think, that it was lucky that a few druggies from the 60's became so famous.
According to an auto-biogrophy by Rick (or maybe it was Nick) Syd was the only one into the drugs. The others just drank occasionally. I thought it ludacris at first, but it's really not that hard to believe when you think about it. |
Not that hard to believe? You have to be pretty high to come up with money this is Roger:
Roger: aw, man! I just had an experience. Get me a cash register. And we all know Syd was a druggie. But the others were probably druggies. Back to the videos..... Yeah, on The Wall DVD there's a video for ABITW Part 2. And the auto-biography was by Nick. Unless you're not talking about Inside Out |
First of all, stop with all the multiple posts.
Second, that isn't how Roger came up with Money at all. And they weren't complete druggies. Some of the members liked to drink, and some smoked weed occasionally. I've done both of those things, and I do not consider myself a druggie. Chill out with you and your drugs. |
Well, as of right now, Marooned has replaced Any Color You Like as my favorite Gilmour/Wright duet. This song is so perfect...
|
I've seen the ABITW pt. 2 video on TV and the video for High Hopes too. On the official website of Pink Floyd (www.pinkfloyd.co.uk) you can watch some other videos (in the Echoes section, you'll need to search for them tho), including a promotional film for Arnold Layne which I find to be funny.

can anyone nail the HAVE A CIGAR solo yet?
|
which one is the best floyd live album??
|
which one is the best floyd live album??
I'd start with Pulse. That's probably the best to start with and easiest to get into. There's a big difference from their later performances like Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse and their earlier performances like Ummagumma and Live At Pompeii. So you should just get all their live stuff but Pulse is probably my favorite and the best one to start with:thumb: |
thank you ... what about this "smoking blues"-cd which is described as very well in the sputnik music review

I just read the review on it, it sounds really good but hard to find. I'm going to look for it at my flea market. That's usually the best place for me to find rare stuff like that. I'd probably still get Pulse first even though it's really expensive because I think it probably is the easiest to get into even though Roger Waters isn't with the group. You can't really go wrong with whatever you buy though. I need to find that Smoking Blues cd. |
can anyone nail the HAVE A CIGAR solo yet?
Alright. Well close, but not perfect. |
Is anything perfect?

^^ Me playing the solo from Mother.. which is an awsome song. I didn't feel like grabbing my amp, so excuse it being quiet .. But I was bored, and had my guitar next to me, so I just put my mic by it. How is it ? BTW, I did a noise reduction filter on Audtion, so some of the long sustain parts are shorter than should be, and some parts sound funny. |
Has anyone else noticed how for about a week or two there's some good convos in this thread and then it kinda dies for a while? Anyway, I've noticed that Animals isn't talked about a whole lot here, so what does everyone think of it? It was my favorite Floyd album for a long time. I absolutely love Dogs. Pigs on the Wing 1&2 are great too, real fun to strum along to on my acoustic. There's not really a weak spot on the whole album.
