i wouldnt mind opeth to keep the clean vocals, loose the growls, but keep the heavyness instuments. i like all the clean vox and heavy music songs they have. some songs the brutal vocals riuns them IMO.

one song were the brutal vocals improve it so much is the great coaglation (SP?) right when the brutal vocals come on that songs just gets so good.

scenesfromatheater 11-26-2005 07:32 AM

I love Mike's clean voice like in Isolation years, but the growling in The Grand Conjuration is just awsome...and in most other songs.

nowitzki 11-26-2005 10:27 AM

I'm seeing Opeth tomorrow, does anyone know who the support act will be?

Cain 11-26-2005 10:54 AM
Hey, I just remembered this.

In Lamentations, there's this really long video section that shows Opeth recording Damnation/Deliverance. At the end part, where Mikael and Wilson are recording vocals, I think you can hear Wilson talking about "tuning". You hear Mikael laying down some clean vocal tracks, and they're noticeably uneven and off-key. He comes out of the recording room and when they play it back, Wilson says something like, "It'll be better with tuning". This "tuning" is remarked upon several times by both men. When Wilson goes in to record vocals, he also sounds off-key. But later, when the two tracks are mixed, they are perfectly on pitch.

 Is Wilson helping Akerfeldt cheat with his clean vocals?? It would explain the huge improvement between the clean vox on Still Life and BWP, seeing as Wilson produced the vocals on BWP and not Still Life. Anyway, just thought I'd bring it up.

/Conspiracy theory
Well, the vocals do sound better in tune, don't they? :p And in any case, the vocals on Still Life sound better IMO than the ones on Still Life, and personally I think "tuning" only really works when we're dealing with harmonized vocals, which is what Mikael was laying down on that spot on the DVD.

And it's not as if Mikael "cheats" on his vocals live.

Yes, second only to the growls in Black Rose Immortal.

scenesfromatheater 11-26-2005 11:10 AM

I was going to buy an Opeth zip-up hoody today, but they only had them in Medium :upset:. I got an AC/DC one instead...and I don't even like them.

Spinal Pap 11-26-2005 11:24 AM

Where did you see an Opeth hoody at?

You meant BWP, yes?

I disagree. His vocals are off-key far more on Still Life. And let's be frank, he isn't as strong vocally as he is on the record (this is the case for most vocalists). And actually, Wilson was laying down harmonized vocals, on the "ahh" part in Master's Apprentices.

I'm not sure, but maybe Nevermore is still touring with them? I saw them a month ago with Nevermore, not sure if they're still there.

Wow, I'd be pissed. Didn't Shattered Future or someone post a link a while back to some site that sold apparel from a bunch of different bands? I think I'll go digging for it.

My favorite Akerfeldt vocal performances were on Still Life, though. :upset:

Deth 11-26-2005 03:58 PM

As long as he can sing it live, I have no problems with tuning.
I have been wondering if Opeth have ever performed Black Rose Immortal live? anyone know?
Yep, they did the last time I saw them back in October. Not the first time however as they only had a 5 song set on the Sounds of the Underground Tour. So I'm pretty sure that if you see a show when they are the headlining band then it a song that they play quite often.

Not saying that they play it at every show though.

Oriah 11-26-2005 11:40 PM

whats your favorite Opeth album?

I can't decide

Spinal Pap 11-26-2005 11:51 PM

Morningrise. It recently pulled ahead of BWP.

I the English person of speech so far was always. In spite even to that, normal method of speech started being bored to me, therefore we had decided to mix thing into the small part. This one form a phrase that it perforates differently on from the generic crap that before heard each one much of more interesting.
