Heh, didn't mean to sound like a prick. From what I hear, all of the States is pretty sweet, if you take some time to explore a little.
Andrew what exactly is your living situation?
A friend works for a hotel and lives in the apartment above the lobby for free (he has to answer phones and stuff). The rest of us come and go as we please. It's sort of a half-way house for all of us poor punk rockers, though I'm more or less one of only three permanent residents, as I don't have a home currently. The apartment is made up of four hotel rooms on either side of a narrow hallway. I sleep on a mattress in that hallway.

AIRIC 11-06-2006 05:21 PM

Nice. Sounds like it's a lot of fun.

Flagjacket 11-06-2006 05:21 PM

Oh my god Andrew.
100% honesty, that is one of the coolest things I've ever heard.
I'm not saying you have to dress punk to be punk.

You just have to be punk. Some of the Camden crew are pretty fucking punk; some have just bought tartan trousers from pervy Steve's shop.

Basically when I think be punk to be punk, I think of Andy, the bassist from the Duel. He was at the 12 Bar that night actually, he's the most punk rock person I've ever met in my life.

Anyway enough now, I have to go find a torrent for Romper Stomper.
british punk seems to be stuck in 1977. It looks very clean. I wish i could give a listen but my speakers are broken.

Haha it really is. I can't wait to grow up and be poor.

Definitely. There is so much to see and do and experience that hasn't yet been destroyed and corrupted. Underneath all of the bullshit you can still find that vein of individualism and adventure that the States were founded on, if you know where to look. I love the States for that sort of thing.

That kinda sucks, hope you find yourself some personal space soon.

We have ethernet, though I'm not sure how. I think maybe all of the rooms have free ethernet, so we do as well?

It's pretty rad, but like coheneran says, I don't really have any personal space, so it's hard to chill with my girl or whatever. I can't really complain. It's not ideal, and I'll probably look back and laugh years from now, but whatever. It's free. I'd just kinda like to be a little more sure of where my life is going.

I dunno, I've been living on couches and floors for so long that I'm more at home there than when I'm at my parent's house, which is sad but useful. One of the great Buddhist scholars said something once about how a wise man sees no home but where he sleeps, and thus is never not at home...or something more eloquent, but you get my point.

Glitterati 11-06-2006 05:45 PM

It'd be cool to live in a hotel.

Jon 11-06-2006 06:28 PM

Talk of the devil, I thought we were out of Tea and Coffee but I remembered I have a whole backpack full of bits and bobs I've taken from hotel rooms.

I wanted to take a mormon bible from a hotel, but I decided against it at the last minute.

A friend of mine is going to let me borrow hers when she's done reading it anyway.

No, it's just an apartment, we have no actual hotel room amenities.
