Minimum wage, high participation in higher education, decent healthcare... Great. But I do not want any government to think they can ever get away with taking us to war based on lies again. Ever.
Yeah I totally agree with you on that. I'm amazed there isn't nationwide public referendums for things like that. I think think a good majority of our public would have said no. I certainly don't believe in it, in my opinion our government should have grown the balls to tell Bush to fuck off
Partly the press's fault. Politics is like the polar opposite of science.

Try something, find it doesn't work, keep doing it anyway because the press will crucify you for a "u-turn"
Maybe it is partly their fault, but fuck em. The entire industry is filled with devil's advocates. They love nothing better than exacerbating things. So why are they still such a major power in society? This would be a very different country/world without the venomous speculation and general bullshit spewed by the media.
It'd be nice if we could be a bit more like the scandinavian countries politically. I think most of these problems could be solved with proportional representation, but people are idiots (look how this coalition turned out! /facepalm) and those in power won't pass laws to give it up...
For me though, those in power are only human. So what separates them from anyone else? 'Power' is abstract, they have nothing palpable over you, me or anyone else in this country. If enough of the public wanted change, and I mean revolutionary change, the 'ethereal', illusive nature of their power would become apparent.
"Worker bees can leave. Even drones can fly away. The queen is their slave."
You can certaintly say that labour is more socialist than con in my opinion, but the idea that the "price" of socialism is not higher taxes but the erosion of people's human rights and the right of the government to go to war on a yank-fellating whim disgusts me.
The Labour of old was more socialist, but for me, no current major party represents anything near left-wing politics.

Hey guys so I don't want to make a new thread and I also want to be one of those assholes who doesn't read anything and just posts so

I'm playing with an old band mate at his parents' cottage and today I noticed some major fucking buzzing going on. Like extremely audible to the point that I got scared.

Assuming it could be either guitar or amplifier ('62 RI Fender Jazzmaster and Roland Jazz Chorus 50W respectively) or just cables/pedals what should I be looking for? Ideas for tracing or whatnot. For what it's worth my guitar goes home with me but the Jazz Chorus sits at the cottage when we're done as well as the effects. And the cottage gets cold (wood heat). I'm assuming it could just be my fucking moron powers through the roof in that I'm leaving gear to get cold but I need some advice. Any real srs stuff will be acknowledged and thanked. Even though I'm guessing I should just throw out that JC and Jazzmaster and get a marshall stack and a squier bullet amirite.

Bruce E Kinesis 11-21-2010 01:21 AM

Are your canadian electronics as shit as those south of the border? Is everything grounded properly by law?

Were you running FX in the FX loop? Daisy chaining?

Give us something to work with man!

FlamingCouch 11-21-2010 01:35 AM

On the hairy amp drooling.

OK, guitar into dist. dist linked to tuner. tuner linked to delay, delay linked to flanger, linked to wah which plugs into the amp. I don't have a loop pedal and this was after I killed all the effects and was running clean.

Without being there to see your setup, it's hard to tell, but it could be related to crappy power source or outlet, electromagnetic interference or RF related interference, combined with the pups in your guitar can all be causing some of your buzzing problems.

So, check all your connections, try repositioning gear, try plugging your gear into other outlets, and if your using a power bar, try plugging one item at a time into it to see what might be causing the buzzing sound, that includes fans and lights, other gear, etc...as more than one amp or items plugged on the same power bar can cause problems, and maybe the power bar is defective? Make sure that fans and all lights are turned off when testing everything as even a small night light or desk light can cause some buzzing problems...

And don't forget to check all your cables for kinks/damages as this will cause or allow a lot of RF noise through...

Quick tip - that chain is all wrong (not that there is any "right" way as such; you can have your pedals however you like).

Generally, if you're sticking all your pedals in front of the amp, you'd want to go: Guitar -> Tuner -> Wah -> Distortion -> Delay -> Flanger -> Amp. If your amp has an effects loop, it's a good idea to put delay/modulation effects there.

Going off this axiom (although as you pointed out, there is no right way), surely you'd put the delay after the flanger? Modulation before time-based and spatial effects.

I could be completely wrong, I've never had loads of pedals and most of my 'knowledge' comes from production rather than live setups, which has its downfalls...

Bruce E Kinesis 11-21-2010 11:11 AM

There's some that are right/wrong but as with the distortion/wah debate that one is purely a matter of the result being two different effects

wobbled delay is just straightup different to delayed wobble

EmbraceRandom 11-21-2010 11:14 AM

I once tried mixing a lead guitar part with the opposite series to what is considered 'the right way' to do it.
Sounded incredible.

The_Mop 11-21-2010 11:39 AM

Listening to Depeche Mode. That is all.

Bruce E Kinesis 11-21-2010 11:44 AM

There's a powerful use of distortion-after-reverb on one of the Silver Mt Zion albums, can't remember which one of the top of my head. Think the song was on "Born into Trouble..."

GOT IT

The name of the song is "Could've moved mountains" and the guitar part is at just before 8 minutes and it sounds so beautiful with the jewish singing and the tremolo and the Oh My.

im actually listening to gy!be right now

FlamingCouch 11-22-2010 09:13 AM

Bruce and McP are now my heroes. And yeah, as far as chaining it right I've heard that time and time again; I really can't be bothered to fix it. I'm happy with the sound as it is - all I'm worried about is the buzzing as it's never buzzed that loud. But I will try the plug-in test and whatnot today - also I'll plug into the 10 watt right off the hop to see if the amp could be to blame. Thanks guys for tips.

Could be a shitty power source. Do you have a power conditioner? I highly recommend it. They are awesome.

What is this power conditioner of which you speak, Sir? As in one power source to all of the pedals? in which case I am certainly using some kind of Power All something or other. Would the cold have anything to do with this? As I'm a real cunt to my amp and effects leaving them in a cold house and not taking them home as I am with the Jazzmaster.

Also were you quite psyched that BHP didn't get to reel (49% of) Potash Corp in, as I was?

and in third place Bruce and McP were my heroes because of Godspeed/SMZ references, which I forgot to mention/I am getting my highway one stratocaster repainted this week. should be awesome.
