I would probably go to all of those except the third one because I don't know who it is.

asymm, you might like to try some of these;

The Red Chord - Fused Together in Revolving Doors
Meshuggah - I
Carcass - Heartwork
Cynic - Focus

They're some of my favourites, as well as the Cryptopsy album Zebra mentioned and some of ATM's picks.

Fort23 07-01-2007 08:17 PM

If you have to choose, choose Meshuggah.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-01-2007 08:30 PM
I'm hoping to expand my knowledge of metal, but haven't had much luck finding distinctive bands that really stick with me. So, give me some recommendations for someone who likes these four records:
Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Neurosis - Given to the Rising
Boris - Akuma No Uta

They don't necessarily have to sound like these four, but are maybe of a similar fanbase. Also - try to steer clear from the post-metal/shoegazey sound, I want my metal to have some balls.
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Converge - Jane Doe

and I second the Cynic recommendation. It doesn't really have much balls like you asked, but I think you'd appreciate it anyway.

Eliminator 07-01-2007 08:33 PM

at the gates slaughter of the souuullll

iarescientists 07-01-2007 08:37 PM

maudlin of the Well - Bath (got me into metal)
Sigh - Hangman's Hymn (from what I've heard this is not as good as their other albums, but I haven't heard those, and this ****ing rules)

Fort23 07-01-2007 08:40 PM

Converge-When Forever Comes Crashing, favorite converge record.

Hedgedive 07-01-2007 08:42 PM

man this whole scene is just so angry

ATM 07-01-2007 09:47 PM

Ooh also, Suma - Let the Churches Burn

Jacaranda 07-02-2007 12:29 AM

agalloch and death

Zmev 07-02-2007 12:31 AM

Between the Buried and Me - The Silent Circus
Death - Individual Thought Patterns
Cynic - Focus

Tangy zizzle 07-02-2007 01:56 AM

Burnt By The Sun
Ephel Duath

I would say the Red Chord as well, but Andy pipped me.

Kage 07-02-2007 02:02 AM

Try The Melvins and more Boris, Cult of Luna, Ufomammut.

pixiesfanyo 07-02-2007 04:43 AM

Slayer - Reign in Blood

Fort23 07-02-2007 05:48 AM

Salyer is overrated in terms of their speed and statnism crap, but they are a good metal band.
Between the Buried and Me-Alaska
Dillinger Escape Plan-Miss Machine and Calculating Infinity.

Kyle 07-02-2007 05:49 AM

I struggle with most metal tbh, but I'd second Dopethrone by Elecric Wizard.

Callisto are a pretty decent Post-Metal band aswell, better than most of that stuff that goes on around them I think.

br3ad_man 07-02-2007 05:57 AM
Burnt By The Sun
I like these guys a lot. I think Tangy introduced me to them a couple years ago.

AlienEater 07-02-2007 08:18 AM

Today is the Day ~ Sadness will Prevail

and a lot of stuff already mentioned, Electric Wizard and stuff

Tangy zizzle 07-02-2007 04:04 PM
I like these guys a lot. I think Tangy introduced me to them a couple years ago.
Yes I did. It's Brann Dailor's pre-Mastodon joint I believe. Heavy stuff.

niobium 07-02-2007 04:20 PM

ufomammut is ok, very repetitive, unless you're high i would not know. i assume it would be incredible

Kage 07-02-2007 04:25 PM

I like it both ways. They're really good.

ATM 07-02-2007 04:26 PM

I've listened to it driving around getting stoned before. Pretty nice.

Doctor D. 07-02-2007 09:54 PM

I saw Disco Biscuits last night. It knocked me on my ass. They put on a great show. If anybody here wants to check em' out, heres their album Senor Boombox.

Hey Derek!

Doctor D. 07-03-2007 02:23 AM

Tnagy! Hows everything man? Going good I;d hope to presume?

Happymeal 07-03-2007 04:39 PM

I went to a free Do Make Say Think/Final Fantasy show the other day. Actually I didn't really want to go since I don't like either of them but a certain lady friend *convinced* me to and I found the book that I was looking for on the way there so it wasn't all that bad.

Kyle 07-03-2007 05:03 PM

Ah I'd quite like to see both those bands, were either any good?
