Can you do whole songs? If you can, I'm impressed.

If not, not so much :p.
I learned so many songs by ear because I have wayyyy to much time on my hands. But it's awesome when you learn songs like The Drapery Falls and April Ethereal.
You do have too much time on your hands, those are like 10 minute songs each :p
If you can do that though, that's awesome...I couldn't learn a song like that by ear for my life.

Killtacular 11-24-2005 12:14 PM

Derp a derp a derpity derp.

Shattered_Future 11-24-2005 12:57 PM

I'd listen to him...

Only songs I've been able to figure out fully by ear were ones by Nirvana.

That was like 3 years ago though...

I have a good ear. I can pretty much learn any song by ear while hearing it. I took piano for 8 or so years, I think if you start music at a young age your ear is that much better.

Lucky you. I only could figure out some riffs. Not very complicated ones though. Havnt realy tried though except for once or twice. And for tabbing out solos by ear, I suck.

BIIIIIG lovely Opeth poster for my wall. I love cheap magazines.

I don't really stay in the loop when it comes to Opeth so a question; have they said anything about touring Australia?

Jude 11-24-2005 11:37 PM

I figure out a lot of Opeth stuff by ear on bass, but usually it's like I just figure out the main riffs of a song on bass, not the actual bassline. Because I don't notice Mendez's playing that much, the bass parts don't really stick out to me. I usually play parts of The Moor, the metal part from Face of Melinda, this one bass part from some part of Black Rose Immortal, and the first crazy riff on Bleak. The end riff of Closure is fun too.

I bought the Blackwater park exactly. That is excellent. I first probably will die to become, voice left me, but when examining beforehand those, I was brought up those ways. I that could not look at that other every method is.

Grrr...I've been looking for Opeth posters to help eliminate evil whitespace on my walls, to no avail. Does anyone know of any decent places that would sell them? Most of the merchandise links on Opeth's homepage links to shirts.

scenesfromatheater 11-25-2005 04:55 AM

Anyone know what Opeth merch you can get at gigs?

What is your first (native) language?

At the show I went to, it was just shirts, and all Ghost Reverie related ones at that.

That's exactly what I was wondering. That looks like it came out of some auto-online translator.

As for Opeth posters, I've never seen them. If I had, I'd have bought one already.

Hmmm... how much were they?

Toaster 11-25-2005 05:05 PM

Choose..

1. Akerfeldt loses his harsh voice
2. Akerfeldt loses his clean voice
3. Akerfeldt loses his head, Opeth goes on
4. " " Opeth breaks up

Kage 11-25-2005 05:07 PM

Number 4.

Shattered_Future 11-25-2005 05:09 PM

If it had to come down to something...4. All the above elements are needed for Opeth.

Hm, that's tough. His growling is the best I've ever heard, and his clean vocals are so soothing! Losing his head...that's just gross. You're talking about decapitation, right? Or...was it insanity?

Opeth breaking up would break my heart.

Toaster 11-25-2005 10:19 PM

Decapitation it was. :thumb:

Meh, I don't care much for his clean voice, they could get someone with a similar voice to fill in and Mikael could still do growls. Maybe Steve Wilson.

No, it's where his head just falls off for no reason. A very under-publicized medical condition.

His clean voice is awesome. Or maybe it's just the vocal melodies he writes.

Toaster 11-25-2005 11:05 PM

Hey, I just remembered this.

In Lamentations, there's this really long video section that shows Opeth recording Damnation/Deliverance. At the end part, where Mikael and Wilson are recording vocals, I think you can hear Wilson talking about "tuning". You hear Mikael laying down some clean vocal tracks, and they're noticeably uneven and off-key. He comes out of the recording room and when they play it back, Wilson says something like, "It'll be better with tuning". This "tuning" is remarked upon several times by both men. When Wilson goes in to record vocals, he also sounds off-key. But later, when the two tracks are mixed, they are perfectly on pitch.

 Is Wilson helping Akerfeldt cheat with his clean vocals?? It would explain the huge improvement between the clean vox on Still Life and BWP, seeing as Wilson produced the vocals on BWP and not Still Life. Anyway, just thought I'd bring it up.

/Conspiracy theory
