Did I ever ask you guys if you knew any good sites for downloading samples and loops for Cubase SX3?

Preferably hip-hop, trip-hop, down-beat, or miscellanous SFX?

moaner 08-06-2005 08:05 AM

wow, i had post 1080.

how extremely snowboardcore i am, and what a large community thread this is becoming.

Heh, **** right, ima try that at some point too, looks fun!

Try www.rswww.com and www.rapidelectronics.co.uk for matrix board (i think thats what your talking about?) also on that ucapps site theres links to a few people who do a package, so you can just buy each board and all the componants to go on it all at once - i've seen the 'Core Module' (if you've read much from the site youl know what i mean) for around £10, so its fairly reasonable!

moaner 08-06-2005 08:12 AM

cool, i'll have a look, thanks

Aes820 08-10-2005 04:04 AM

I had my first day at my new work today.
It was awesome.

It snowed.
The first time it has snowed here in about 20 years.

gaslight 08-10-2005 04:08 AM

Yeah I heard about snow down in Victoria around Drouin, and in the Blue Mountains, and Canberra.

I didn't get any snow in Sydney but the day really took on a chill around 5 PM.

There wasn't a heap of snow. Just a light dusting.

On the higher peaks around southern Canberra there looked to be enough to be able to pickup and have a snowfight in. But down in the suburbs it pretty much melted soon after hitting the ground.
There may be some more tonight tho.

I ses you just missed out for the new bass mod position too. Sorry if I got your hopes up before, but your name was definately on the cards.

gaslight 08-10-2005 04:41 AM

No worries :). I don't post much there anymore, I know I could do the job of modding and I'd probably enjoy it but it isn't something that I feel I need to do to be happy on MX.

Aes820 08-10-2005 05:52 AM

Sometimes, being a Mod feels like you're just an online babysitter. There's some times in the guitar forum where I feel like I am that.
For that reason it can often be seen as more of a hindrance than a privilege.
But, for all intents and purposes it's just an extra responsibility. And there's no reason why anyone cannot be a helpful and well respected member even without the 5 stars and italisised user name.

The new job is just fantastic. And as it turns out I'm making $12,000 more pa than I was in my old position.
Plus I get leave entitlements, which is a whole new concept for me. 'Getting paid while not being at work'. Wow.

gaslight 08-10-2005 06:43 AM

That is some sweet cash.

Trigger_003 08-10-2005 10:42 PM

Woah, nice stuff Chris :)
Go the entitlements.

Yeah, it snowed near me too (not at my place but in the subrubs around me)... I walked outside in shorts and a tee-shirt in the morning to feed my horse & dog... Pure stupidity; it was about 3C.
Apparently it snowed at Torquay too - that would've been awesome. Surfing while it's snowing... *slips off into a daydream*

What's happening, guys?

EDIT: Thanks for the rep in that key signature thread, Chris. Do read notation at all?

bluefire 08-10-2005 11:00 PM

you are nuts, i was wearing like 3 layers and i was still cold.
yeah and it snowed at like the whole southern coast of victoria.

Surfing while snowing would be too cold. Well, I don't wear a suit, so it would be for me.
Although A mate of mine who surfs a lot says that the best wave he has ever caught was once during a monsoon. So sh!tty weather usually = good waves.

I can read notation. Kind of. But it takes me ages and I have to pencil in which note is which. Then for my own convienience I would write it up in tab format, just to get me started on the tune.

gaslight 08-11-2005 02:26 AM

I'm slowly getting capable of reading notation. I still learn songs simply by memorising the part in my head though, whether or not I've had it shown to me on an instrument, worked it out from a chord chart, or taken the time to figure it out dot by dot.

The only real reason I'm learning to read sheet music is for doing music at uni, but I'm sure once I can I'll be happy I made the effort. I'm going to try transcribing my ideas in notation as some practice.

bluefire 08-12-2005 12:08 AM

sorry, i havent introduced myself. Im Ben, 15 from Australia and I play guitar and have been for around 8 months.

Hello Ben. Which city/state are you from.

gaslight 08-12-2005 07:14 AM

Tommorow I'm buying a big manuscript book for putting my songs in, and also hopefully going to see a band comp at AIM.

denboy 08-12-2005 07:22 AM

I'm too lazy to make a thread..
Does anyone in here know anything about USB to midi cables? And how much they cost?

gaz12369 08-12-2005 07:43 AM

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Uno-main.html

Around £25

denboy 08-12-2005 07:46 AM

That probably means it'll cost me around £40 where I live.. Hehe.. Thanks

Trigger_003 08-12-2005 04:26 PM

Chris: I didn't know you surfed... that's awesome. Generally storms kick up the waves which means some crazy surfing (that's why it's usually better to surf in winter).
Ben canes me in surfing.

Anyway, I was just asking about notation because generally knowing it makes a lot of theory so much easier. Good thing you (kinda) know it :thumb:.
Woah Matt, writing all your songs out into notation. That'd take a while.

I haven't been able to use Mx (well except in that IT class...)/play guitar for about 4 days now... it's been killing me!

I body board. I don't know if you'd consider that surfing tho. But I do.
A few mates and myself occasionally take a bit of time off work and spend a week in on the south coast. There's some beautiful spots down there.

I haven't been on MX as regularly as I used to either. The new job is keeping me busy.

bluefire 08-12-2005 10:37 PM

I surf, usually a couple of times a month at phillip island

gaslight 08-13-2005 12:08 AM

I can't surf.

I used to bodyboard though when I was a bit younger, mainly up the coast on holidays around Foster and Tuncurry and places like that. Sometimes at Stockton.

I can't do any tricks on it, but it was good fun.

bluefire 08-13-2005 02:53 AM

It's nice around that area though. i went there on holidays once.

Trigger_003 08-13-2005 05:15 PM

Surfing, bodyboarding... same difference :). I'm still pretty much a beginner surfer - I can catch waves pretty well, manoeuvre around the wave and all that, but not much else. It's all good fun though.
I've been up around Foster too. I liked it up there.

I went to a house-warming party last night. They had that fake wine stuff that my mates go off their heads with. We ended up piling up on top of each other rugby style for no real reason, "air jamming", doing karaoke to some song that was half in another language (that we didn't know how to speak. very... interesting), n other crazy stuff... t'was fun.
/random info.

Btw, anyone know when Airborne is coming back?

Aes820 08-17-2005 02:15 AM

Does anyone know when moaner will be getting back?

I've got super powers now.

Not much has happened at all really (I don't think...). Welcome back mate.

I've been very busy with my new job.

Want to see my handiwork?

http://www.facs.gov.au/

I worked alot on the css and page layout.
We've still got problems with the site when view in any other browser other than IE.
I know what the problem is. And I know how it can be fixed. But when we do fix it is causes another problem associated with tables.

So it's still not completely worked out, and there's a couple of isses.

Like the Page URL shown at the bottom of the page in IE. Check out the code.

But i think we did pretty well for the time we had.

gaslight 08-20-2005 01:12 AM

Saw Bluebottle Kiss, Matt Handley & The Dagger Stares, and Karl Larsson last night.

Trigger_003 08-20-2005 02:02 AM

 Interesting.
Thanks for reminding me - I've gotta get on to some businesses I'm doing sites for (and decide how much I'm actually supposed to charge these guys... I have no idea).

We did a Latin Cabaret for a few nights this week. I didn't get to do a solo flamenco act (which is probably just as well, I almost always stuff up my solos when I'm performing them), but we played some latin/spanish/etc. music with one of the concert bands I'm in... very fun :).

Good show, Matt?

Trea, it was the ketchup song, and no, we didnt sing - the others did lol.

Hey Ben

Also, I nearly had a car accident that night :upset: lol. Coz i got my learners in July so I'm a really bad driver. It was sooo scary. BTW, I got my actual little card yesterday! And bryan (my fraternal twin) didn't!! So glad its not a bad pic tho lol

gaslight 08-20-2005 05:36 AM

Yeah Trea it was good.

Matt Handley & The Dagger Stares were awesome.

nm you?

Haha.

What are you guys up to lately with music?

I'm just doing my course, and playing around with Cubase a bit.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 08-20-2005 07:46 AM

I remember when I used to talk to you on MSN... now I don't.

What am I up to with music? Nothing special, really. Learning lots of theory, as you can probably tell. I'm in the market for an amp.
