Anyway, Rise Against was amazing. Even though no one knew any of their old stuff, they still put on one hell of a show. They played an awesome mix of old and new music, and they covered "Ohio" by Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.

Anyway, show ruled. Thursday and Rise Against were incredible.
Which older songs did they play at your date? At the show I went to the only pre SSOTCC songs they played were Like the Angel and Blood Red, White and Blue.

Hit The Lights
Their pretty much the definition of generic pop punk but its fun enough even if they didn't really get the crowd going. I've had their album for a while but "Bodybag" is the only song i know well, they finished with it anyway. Their songs seem to lack definition and all sound pretty similar. With a sound that is pretty much Fall Out Boy's i cant see them ever becoming a huge band uniutl they get a sound of their own but they weren't exactly bad and they had a decent amount of energy.

The Early November
My first time of seeing one of my favourite bands. They came on tne minutes early which was great because we got an extra two songs. The set list was great, a good mix of old and new. They played, "Every Night's Another Story" and "I Want to Hear You Sad" both of which are personal favs. It must be said that the band has a lot of energy on stage and are very tight. Ace's singing sounds better live than on record at times, I was expectin with a unique voice like his that it might be a bit suspect. The new material is great small doses although doesn't quite fill up the triple disk. It was clear that while a lot of people hadn't heard them before, there were a considerable number of devoted Early November fans in attendance who were making a lot of noise for them. They even managed to slip in a few bars of "Champagne Supernova" which went down well in Oasis' hometown.

New Found Glory
Probably the best thing about this gig was the complete absense of kids in attendance. It seems that while NFG probably haven't picked up too many new fans with their new album that they haven't lost too many to age either. The average age was 18+ which was great because kids annoy me. Their set choice was spot on mixing old classics and new material. All the fan favourites were played, "Hit or Miss," "Better Off Dead," "Dressed To Kill" and "All About the Girls." I wish they would of played something of Nothing Gold Can Stay particularly "It Never Snows In Florida" but i guess you cant have everything. NFG are always good live. There tight and energetic and Jordan is a strong frontman. Their experience as a band really showed and where Hit The Lights may have lacked definition you could hear every note. They were on for about an hour and twenty minutes, longer than most bands of this genre and lef tpretty much every fan happy for the pop punk sing-a-long they had been treated to. It was great to see fans of all styles instead of a tight jeans and fringe fest.

I want to see The Early November SO bad.
They did this neat little circus concept and started with actor's playing all the people from the cover of their CD out onstage dancing around. The whole set (they played the CD in order which I thought was lame but I guess it was to support the "concept") was filled with incredibly flexible dancers and other actors that acted on the song concepts. The band played very well, Brandon hit all the notes (plus some extra high crazy ones) and played piano. The whole band game out and did this drum off kind of thing with a marching band. At one point they played a video on the screen of some circus freaks. I think Ryan and Brandon kissed at one point too which made the crowd go wild (the crowd of course was 90% teenage girls). But the band played very tight and put on a hell of a show. They played a new song where Brandon played guitar too and they covered "Elanor Rigby" by The Beatles which was fantastic.
That's pretty gay they did that exact same circus concept on their last tour.

I want them to do a headlining tour over here but im not sure they have enough fans to pull it off.

musicislove05 12-08-2006 12:30 AM

I've seen the Early November.. yeah it sucks that not alot know them.. well when i saw them, they opened for senses fail, which is wayy more heavier rock than TEN, so not alot of ppl really got into them.. im not sure they have enough fans out there to headline.

Mute Print 12-13-2006 04:48 PM

Okay, so last night I went to see Gwar.

The first band of the night was The Bloody Crackdown. I didn't even know they were supposed to play, but they ended up being pretty decent. They were all dressed in army gear, and they had a stripper who danced around on stage the whole time, usually with a plastic AK-47.

Next up was Municipal Waste. I know I've mentioned before that I had to leave the last time Municipal Waste played here before they even came on, because the marijuana smoke was too much for me to handle. Well, I wasn't letting anything stop me from seeing them this time. There was still a ton of marijuana being smoked, but the club was big enough that I could get away from it.

Anyway, Municipal Waste was amazing. They had a ton of energy, and they went all out, even though it couldn't have been the same for them having to play behind a barricade. About halfway through the set, they brought out beer bongs for anyone of age in the crowd to drink from.

The Red Chord played third. I've seen them once before, and once again they were pretty good. Unlike the other bands, they didn't really have any sort of gimmick. (no fake blood/beer bongs/strippers/etc.), but they were still solid.

This show had to be really interesting for Gwar. From what I was told, they had to cut a good half of their production, because the club was so much smaller than what they usually play.

Either way, their show was still insane. The costumes, lights, fake blood, etc. were wild. They had all sorts of weird characters, most of whom they 'murdered' brutally. It was really a wild experience.

Note: I stood way in the back, away from all the blood.

Overall, crazy show. A lot of fun.

Excursions 12-13-2006 06:04 PM

Hahaha, that's cool that you got to see Municipal Waste Brain. They are pretty great. I might be seeing Limp Wrist Feb next year.

And if NOFX play a Christchurch show I might go, even though I'm not a fan of that shit.

You might not like them musically, but they're amazing musicians.

I saw Madness and the Aggrolites last night. One was great, one wasn't.
