i saw opeth live 2 weeks ago. and it was life changing. I love opeth and they are at least second when it comes to best bands. Only maybe to be beaten by porcupine tree and its close. But if you consider yourself a metal head and a musician you need to listen to opeth. or actually even if you arent a metal head. or a musician. they are beyond amazing.

i have Mikael Åkerfeldt's signature. and i talked to him for a good time and he looks much skinnier in person. In my opinion he is one of the best guitarists of recent history and he is by far the best death metal vocalist ever.

Nice post, always good to see a PT and Opeth fan. Mikeal is certainly one of my favorite vocalists, for his clean and growled vocals, and he's my favorite metal vocalist. Hell, Opeth is my favorite metal band.

Why can't I stop listening to Nile?

Why!!?

I give Annihilation of the Wicked at least a couple of spins a week. That album just kicks you in the face from beginning to end! Definitely gets my vote as the #1 death metal release of the year :thumb:
I can really floor it with my stomach, but it hurts my throat, but it sounds bad ass. All these tips people give me just confuse the hell out of me.
After a little while of doing growls using your throat for lowness and prununciation (SP? heh) and stomach for air movement, it won't hurt anymore. I did DM growls that way for a half-hour a day for like two weeks straight and my throat is fine now

I have only heard Nile 2 times in my whole life. True story.

Yeah, me either. They're too grumpy and low-pitched for me to discern any music within the blazing-fast riffage I heard. Intensity is good, but one of the things that makes Opeth so great is a keen sense of dynamics. This is something that I thought Nile lacked a bit.

You hit the nail on the head there.

Thanks...I left you a message but only got to "C" in the signature before pressing the ok button. It's from me, just FYI. :)

Heh, very true... you gotta be in the right mood to listen to Nile. Otherwise it just sounds like a wall of noise.

Yeah, exactly. Wall of noise just about sums it up. :)

Thanks, man; I'm getting there in terms of stars. :)

That reminds me, I need to make up my list of top R&Mers.

NP: Baying of the Hounds...I don't know how anyone could not like this song. (or album, for that matter) :)

I have never heard them. Also a true story. I really like the cover of their new album, though....snakes rule.

Deth 11-23-2005 06:55 AM

Annihilation Of The Wicked is a fantastic album. It may be making a push for my top 5 of the year.

Sometimes I just want brute aggression.

Toaster 11-23-2005 02:55 PM

I love how the album starts, right after the soft intro it just hammers into Cast Down The Heretic.. I love that song, even if it is impossible to discern any riffs. I think it's my album of the year.

Their new drummer kicks ass.

firemoth12 11-23-2005 03:54 PM

On the VH1 show "Kid star parents exposed" during the aaron carter scene, they played Windowpane by opeth. I was kind of surprised.

I despised it when I first heard it, but it's grown on me a lot. GR is a great album, best of '05 IMO.

NP:Ghost of Perdition...my favorite GR song. :thumb:
I don't have an era of preferance. I enjoy elements of everything, from Orchid to Ghost Reveries. I've loved hearing the progression they've made in recent albums, but I still enjoy the rawness of the earlier productions.
Yeah me too, rawness is so sweet.

N.P. Across The Rainbow Bridge ~ Amon Amarth

Shattered_Future 11-23-2005 08:12 PM

Mmmm...Amon Amarth. Soooo freaking viking.

Recently got a lot of their stuff today, thanks to Dancin' Man. :thumb:

I managed to figure out most of the first riff of The Grand Conjuration by ear today. I was proud of myself.

Cool. I tried doing that with The Drapery Falls once, but I could never work it out right.

Deth 11-23-2005 09:33 PM

I got TGC by ear as well. Fun riff.

The Cynic 11-23-2005 10:06 PM

I learned so many songs by ear because I have wayyyy to much time on my hands. But it's awesome when you learn songs like The Drapery Falls and April Ethereal.
