I never really liked them.

Surtr 02-02-2008 05:27 PM

They've put out some good stuff, but on their albums I find there are either really good or really weak tracks, no in between. And its usually split 50/50.

pate 02-02-2008 06:20 PM
sweet, i like you taste in power metal (from what i have seen on RYM). i actually considered getting some of their albums cuz i noticed the high ratings you gave them
Haha, cool. Make sure you check out Lord and Dungeon if you haven't.

jrowa001 02-02-2008 06:23 PM

thanks Pate, ill look into them

Grumma 02-02-2008 06:47 PM

Lord and Dungeon are great.

In fact, just check out anything and everything Lord Tim is involved with.
LORD, Dungeon, Ilium.

He also has a smallish label which would be worth a look too (currently looking into it myself)

Grumma 02-02-2008 07:20 PM

As you can tell I'm pretty bored - but I've been myspacing it looking for Australian power metal-esque bands

http://www.myspace.com/sedition2006 bit more of a darker, atmospheric sound to them
http://www.myspace.com/blackmajesty they're supporting Helloween with LORD
http://www.myspace.com/blacksteelaustralia bit more traditional metal sounding
http://www.myspace.com/taberahmetal pretty similar to LORD/Dungeon

Poet 02-02-2008 07:30 PM

Kamelot's Abandoned is just amazing

Awesome.

So I am pretty sure I have been on a Dragonforce and Kamelot binge the past two days.

1338 h4x0r 02-02-2008 10:41 PM

Holy Martyr from Italy appear to be pretty good.

Poet 02-02-2008 10:53 PM

eh, they sounded mediocre to me. Most power metal does. The best power metal bands though smack that sense back into me on why it's my favorite genre.

Lost Horizon
Kamelot
Blind Guardian
Sonata Arctica
Dragonforce (pre-Inhuman Rampage...which was still decent)
Nightwish (pre-Century Child when they were power metal)
Rhapsody OF FIRE!!!!!

Those are the best power metal bands in my eyes.

Have you considered any Latin American acts? Rata Blanca is baller.

Steerpike 02-03-2008 12:05 AM

No love for Slough Feg, sadly.

FatalEnergy 02-03-2008 12:18 AM

I'm going to try out for Iced Earth just for the hell of it.

No...but I've done Angra for South America, that is close enough, lol.

Since I use youtube most of the time to hear new music, I am going to listen to almost everything this one user has. He has posted like all of Therion's work, Avantasia, Stratovarius, and Angra. I'll be busy for a while.

I'm going to see Iced Earth's first show back with Barlow just for the hell of it.

Surtr 02-03-2008 01:13 PM

I'd love to check out an IE gig. :(

Edit: I'm in the process of writing a Power Metal song, and I'm writing it all out (In Guitar Pro, just so I can make sure its sounds how I want when its put together) so I'll have the music to hand out to my army that I gather to play it, and maybe later tonight I'm going to upload the Audio (Its crappy midi stuff but it'll give you an idea) of the song, and you guys could perhaps throw suggestions and comments my way?

Alright guys, here's what I have so far. Its not to bad, all considered.

Just looking for any form of feedback on it, and I'd also like to point out that there are no vocals obviously since its Midi, but there eventually will be, so in the parts that sound like a Verse or Chorus, there'll be vocals there on the actual thing. Also the file is only openable in iTunes (Sorry gay I know) just 'cause its the easiest way for me to convert it from WMM which was massive.

Edit: Oh fuck off, the page closed out. I may try to upload it in a few minutes, if I'm not so goddamn lazy.

atm I'm using WinDOS Vista (don't ask) but VideoLan Client plays your file.

That's pretty hot; it would help if the song had a title so I could paint something on the mind canvas to go along with it.

I imagined Rangers valiantly holding a keep in the North against a party of invaders ten times their number tbh

hey did you record that in guitar pro? if so send it to me and i'll record those keyboard parts to sound a little more real, im using the same synth module that Jen's Johansson from Stratovarius uses i'll make it sound more epic.

only if you want though.

That's mad sick man. I may use that as a subject for the lyrics. I will give you the credit lol.

Haha only if I want

But no lies after I'm done that'd be unreal if you would do that. Also, on a side note, I've been thinking about buying a Synth. What're we talking for prices and whats a decent but fairly cheap one (I'm going into Uni. next year so).
