28 dyas later aint that scary just bloddy amazing one of my favourite films and I think it was made by pathe and they are the best for new horror films.
|
Yeh, i showed it to a friend and he didnt like his voice, but i really enjoy it. Good backing tracks too, the bass is awesome.
|
Best scary movie i've seen. It was eerily realistic too, which made it so much more effective.
And a killer soundtrack. Post rock in the movies :thumb:
The locations were what made it amazing. The gradual discovery of what was going on, combined with the obvious mayhem that had ensued throughout England. That scene where they're driving to Manchester and the whole skyline is in flames just rocks. The zombies in that film weren't immortal, however: not "living dead." But that wasn't the point anyway: I feel like that movie is a great human nature study. |
REFL, my friend uploaded a song that we recorded last night. I'll show you guys.
|
I thought it was pretty good (apart from the "rage-infected" explanation bit) up until they met the army guys. Then it all went to hell.QUOTE]
I completely agree. |
Zombies should do the Resident Evil (game) thing. Be big and slow until they attack and then be superfsat and ferocious. Playstation representin'
It's interesting how things like this work in zombie horror.
Romero's mythos of uber-creepiness and suspense that eats you alive requires the zombies to be slow, shambling juggernauts. Conversely, you have more action-oriented movies like 28 Days Later that require something speedier. The Dawn of the Dead remake has to be divorced from the former and taken as the latter to be enjoyed. It's all in the stylistic approach. You can't have it both ways. Interestingly, pre-dating Night of the Living Dead was an Italian film called Zombie! that played off a lot of different world cultures' perceptions of zombies. The creatures in this film were basically brainless killing machines, but not only could they run, they could also swim, leap, and some even flew. One of the most famous scenes in the film apparently is a zombie fighting a shark. I haven't seen it myself. Yet. But a friend of mine at college owns a copy so I plan on watching it this Fall.
I enjoy the recent Dawn of the Dead mostly because of the way the humans behave. The scenes where they're interacting with one another are more suspenseful than the ones with the zombies. One thing I never got though: that dude in the gunshop. He could have killed so many of the zombies, and they wouldn't have even noticed. He could have spent all his time just firing away at them. I bet he could have cleaned out at least a thousand. Would have made it that much easier. Has anyone seen the Director's Cut special features? The fake newscasts are amusing/eerie. There's a really ****ed-up "home video" where three jocks shut a fourth jock in with a female teenage zombie, with the intent to tape a rape I think. But they don't know that they bite. |

You didn't like it? :upset: |
It hasnt finished downloading yet.
Will edit this post with opinions. Sounded like a game soundtrack, it was cool. Sounds like Mario! Your drummer isnt very good though :/ |

What exactly was wrong with that part? |

This was only the second time playing it all the way through, and we just decided to record it. Did you like my crappy solo :D |
Sounded good to me, sounded like something that id do
I hate the way that all the other guitarists on MX (especially Cain) totally wup my butt skill wise. |

I've been playing for just over 2 years, and I think I am pretty good for that amount of time. But I still have a lot of work to do :/ It was cool jamming with Chris (cjborton), because we were both about the same skill level. |
I have been playing for that too, and i reckon im alright. Cain has heard my playing.
What exactly was wrong with that part?
There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the part with them meeting the army guys itself, just that from that point on it took a big nosedive in quality. Up until then I remember it being a pretty interesting take on a zombie film, and enjoying it, and after that it just bored me. I also didn't like the bit where the main guy (I forget his name; it's been a while since I've seen the film) wandered off on his own and ended up having to kill a little kid zombie. |
I have been playing 4 years and suck so don't worry about it, I'm better at drums which I've been playing a little over a year.

Personally, my big complaint with 28 Days Later, was the fact that they actually gave the zombies an explanation. The trend in modern horror it seems is to make everything a **** virus. I can understand where this came from (mass panic over biological weapons these days), but when you start trying to explain monsters in the same vein as something that can be cured with chicken soup and orange juice... :upset:
It's just so much creepier when there is no explanation. You struggle to find one, but can't. That's so much cooler. |

Even more annoying is people who see Dawn of the Dead, and then complain that there was no explanation. A friend of mine actually did that, and I had to kick him a bit. EDIT: I liked the fact that when they made Shaun of the Dead, they recognised that they shouldn't be given an explanation; even went so far as to have a news snippet at the end along the lines of "claims that the zombies were a result of a infectious rage-virus have been dismissed as bullsh-". |
Definitely.

Dawn of the Dead is my least favorite zombie movie anyway. They simply move too fast. The makeup is good though. |
The best zombie movie is Dawn till Dusk.
*runs away* |
It wasn't so much that it was easy. It was the fact that we got answers.
I'm of the Gothic school of horror fiction. It's much scarier when we don't get an answer. Even works outside of the Gothic tradition focus on ambiguity. Take Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" for example. Excellent short story. Chilling social commentary. And no explanation is ever given for the eponymous lottery. But also take a look at Neo-Gothic film like Halloween and Psycho. Even when our protagonists attempt an explanation, we find out there's more to it than they ever imagined. Instead of an explanation, what we're really getting is a slight scratching at the surface. We think we've seen the monster, but all we really saw was one of its claws. That's where real horror comes from. |
Good on you. Dawn of the Dead is my least favorite zombie movie anyway. They simply move too fast.
The makeup is good though.
I assume you mean the remake there. The makeup is good, yeah, but I still have a soft-spot for people painted blue in the original :) |
:( I won't take that as a compliment. You shouldn't say stuff like that. At least you have a band, whereas I am a master at playing with myself.
/ :naughty:
Heh, why dont you get into a band? Im sure plenty of people want a great guitarist like yourself. |

More proof Shaun of the Dead was a great movie. |
Btw, this is my insanely poorly recorded riff that i came up with. Thoughts? Opinions? I just recorded it first try, so there are a few mistakes. Its pretty metal/power metal.

When the "This place must have been important to them," line was spoken in the original, it had meaning. Today, it's just another "Tell us something we don't already know," moment. |

Umm, any suggestions?
|
I don't know, maybe load it up on purevolume?
|
I dont have Purevolume sorry :/ Get it when you get back or something, its pretty cool.
|
Well the only problem is my computer at home is all packed up. Just register for purevolume real quick, it should only take a minute or two. I really want to hear this crap.
|
Ok then.
|
Ok then.
