Why ?!
Its drums are fake and the solo and rhythm parts are massively over-rated. It tries so hard to be heavy and fast yet, it doesnt realy work.
I agree, I love Metallica, but I really don't see what the big craze over that song is. |
Because it's a good song. The solo is difficult believe me, and the riff, while not complex, makes for extremely good headbanging.
Why are you saying believe me ? i play guitar and that solo isnt impressive - go listen to some proper "shred" and you'll see it's a simple 25 second long pentatonic, over-rated little wank. |
Welcome Home {Sanatarium} is the best IMO

I saw them yesterday! AMAAAAAAAZING show! Real good setlist (anyone know where I could find it?) They played all the classics, plus Dyer's eve (not really one of my favorites, but I wasn't expecting it), Disposable Heroes(wasn't expecting that one either :p), and Orion  I was surprised and very very happy when they played that one.

I went to there show a while ago... amazing. |
I saw Metallica in concert on Friday!
My brother is in the Met Club, and got drawn to be one of the people who go backstage for the meet 'n' greet. He got pictures with every member. Godsmack was the opener. They had a really great show, and played all the songs that are on the radio. They also had a drum-off between Sully and their drummer. Metallica opened with their two usual openers (if you don't know which two those are, you obviously haven't been to a concert!) and their pyro was mind-numbingly loud and hurt my chest. Kirk was the one who came near to my area the most (I was on the floor, in like the second row the whole time) and played the second solo to one right in front of me. I can play that solo! Augh, it was great. Rob did his crucifix, where he grabs his bass at arm's length and spins really fast, and that was awesome. He also let some people in the front row touch his bass. Lars saw a dude with a sign in the first row asking if he could play his drums. Lars let him play the drums for the first verse of Seek + Destroy (which was in their encore). Afterward, the band threw out handfuls of picks. I was with five other people, and we each got a pick. Lars threw out picks and a few drumsticks, too. Like four. Kirk had a solo part, and it was absolutely mind-blowing. Lots of audience participation, and it was loud, even with the earplugs. It has to be; it's METALLICA!!!!!!11!1! |
..I think James Hetfield is underrated as a soloist.. even as a riff writer in the 80s.. but that's because of all-mighty Kirk.
Hammett is def one of the top 5 rock guitarists of all time, up there with Hendrix, Clapton, Page. Def the best American guitarist, maybe because of his european playin style! peepz will argue that EVH started the whole virtuoso thing, & Satch & Vai are amazing, but anyone can do that with tons & tons of practice (well, vai is pretty talented) ..but even Randy Rhoads was more musical that EVH. Hammett is American guitar glory! ..I think that has a lot to do with his personality, too. |

And they really REALLY nailed MoP, it was PERFECT. WAAY better than when I saw them during the summer sanitarium tour. And we were so damn loud, it was crazy. At the end of the show, kirk sayd "you motherfuckers are louuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud!" |
yeah, hammett is as close to god as can be. Definately in the top 15 most technically skilled guitarists.
And if anyone went to a show, where did you sit, how much were the tickets, and what did you think of godsmack? |
Hammett has really gotten to be boring to me.
The show I went to, I was next to the stage, which cost like $80. Godsmack were alright but Metallica blew them away. |

I also saw them on Friday, the 1st.
I didn't think Kirk was so mind-blowing. He was good, definately, but not the best I've seen him play. I think Metallica could have played a much better set-list.. But it was still awesome. I don't think they should have played Turn the Page, No Leaf Clover, Bleeding Me (I think they played that), Frantic, or St. Anger. Creeping Death would have been nice to hear. I didn't watch Godsmack. And there were 2 fat chicks next to me sharing phatties the whole show. It was annoying  |
^
You wore earplugs ?
Please tell me im getting the wrong end of the stick here.
Don't you know ANYTHING about rock concerts? They eliminate the ringing noise you hear while the music is playing, makes the pyro a lot less loud (but still enough to squint pretty hard), and also stops the famous three-day-ringing from occurring. Plus I was two or three people away from the stage, so the amps were RIGHT THERE. Oh yeah, and Metallica themselves use earplugs. Or so I read in So What!. :D |
Well I'm sure any musician in a popular band would wear earplugs. Why would you want to go deaf after a big concert?
|

If you wear earplugs at a concert you're a complete fucking wuss; the band themselves wear them to prevent tinitus. |
Earplugs are metal! \m/ :thumb:

no, they're punk rock.
