6 years of metal over here

Steerpike 12-11-2004 06:40 PM

I started off with Black Sabbath and the Scorpions 2 years ago, and from there it just sort of snowballed. First was classic metal, then power metal, and now I'm getting into black metal and all sorts of miscellaneous genres.

Coincidentally, I'll be back in Newcastle tomorrow, too. I'll keep an eye out for Scottish people.

I'm back, I was on the phone with my girlfriend ! We were also discussing metal.

xizoesira 12-11-2004 06:42 PM

I started with a brief Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit phase... then I got into Metallica, and then Cradle of Filth and Children of Bodom. Cradle got me into black and CoB got me into melodic death (Yes, yes, I know, power with harsh vocals.). From there I got into death after a while. Around the same time I got into Cradle I got into Nightwish, which turned me on to power and more gothicy stuff.

Arucard 12-11-2004 06:43 PM

i also really like classic rock at the mo, really getting into zeppelin properly, my faverouite classic rock band being early rainbow IE rising era.

Dancin' Man 12-11-2004 06:43 PM

I've only been with metal for about a year. MX was the gateway drug.

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-11-2004 06:45 PM

God damn, Darkthrone rules in my humble opinion.

Any who, I started out with bands like Green Day and pop punkish bands, then proceeded into the nu-metal world when I heard Korn...

Stayed in that stage for a good 2 years till I heard In Flames and Cradle Of Filth which propelled my interests into the extreme metal scene such as death and black metal. Been listening to "real" metal for a good 2-3 years now and loving every bit of it heh.

So now I am into bands like Arcturus, Death, Dream Theater, Darkthrone, Arsis, Vintersorg and so on and on. What a change from starting out with pop punk...

Was too but then:
Ban
De-Rep
Bad side of a mod
Bad side of a cool guy

you do the maths.

superpeer 12-11-2004 06:46 PM

My history : Rap ---> Limp Bizkit --> Rammstein, The Offspring ---> Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana ---> Metallica, Slipknot ---> Arch Enemy, In Flames ---> ALL METAL (and all genres actually) W00T (Thanks to mx).

I still like some rap, and I still like Limp Bizkit. I also liked Therapy? from the start, and although they are metal influenced they're not metal, just the kings of music.

Ramsey 12-11-2004 06:46 PM

Well I gtg guys, rest assured I'll be back. See ya all.

xizoesira 12-11-2004 06:47 PM

See you. Enjoy eating Zakath's bullets :)

Kingofdudes 12-11-2004 06:47 PM

I started with System of a Down back in the day. From them I listened to a little Metallica. I somehow stumbled upon Helloween, I liked them but didnt listen to them often. Then took up guitar and started to lurk around the, so I got into some of the bands here. When I started posting months ago, I started to get into more Power Metal (Bodom, Blind Guardian, Dragonforce), and some lighter Death Metal (Dark Tranquility, In Flames). I still have to take the next step into the extreme of the extreme.

If you have not heard of them CHECK THEM OUT NOW!

Dancin' Man 12-11-2004 06:52 PM

I only gave my metal history.

I started on hits radio then pop punk then college radio (DMB, Dispatch) then alternative in general then Nirvana then all grunge then Linkin Park then Radiohead then MX was found.

superpeer 12-11-2004 06:52 PM

The best thing is she listens to metal. :)

I downloaded some stuff of theirs from Legions a while back. It was good, but I didn't love it.
