Spam mostly. |
I was always kind of uneasy about the YSI thread. I only posted in it maybe twice. I'm glad it's gone.
YSI links aren't always only used for filesharing, though: I use it most regularly to upload original music for criticism, and others use it for videos and stuff. If YSI is banned outright, that avenue will be lost. |

Being a Dick in my thread Proof http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388730 Look for his first post near to the bottom |
Good ridance to the YSI thread to be honest, it was a nifty thread at first but it got way out of hand. If I ran a site as large as MX and illegal file sharing was going on at that high a rate I would probably put an end to it too. I am suprised it didn't cause many problems tbh.
If this is the matter, shouldnt the AIM thread be closed as well since it promotes the concept of illegal sharing?
Downloading full albums is for flowery mincers, single song sharing is cooler than blue jeans, leather jacket and a well oiled quiff.
I agree, single song uploads are indeed very good. They give you an idea of the band and keep you away from the tempting...p2p programs. Full album uploads on the other hand always made me uneasy.
I can't move it, it's about instruments in general.
Ooops, didnt think of it :( |

worst thread i ever read |
Oh, you guys are such pissers.
A majority of users in the R&M version of the thread was so they could listen to bands for the first time. A lot of the requests were just along the lines of "I request [band] because I haven't heard them before and people say they're good." A couple songs would be uploaded, and that would be it. Considering some P2P programs don't work on some computers (i.e. mine), and considering the P2P programs that DO work are riddled with spyware, the thread provided a safe, secure alternative to obtaining SINGLE SONGS. Why pre-emptively buy an album for just the single? Hell, why purchase an album without knowing what the hell is on it in the first place? You can bullshit all you want about how you're glad it's gone because it was so drastically illegal when put in the same vein as an entire album, but really, I don't see why you'd waste your words. Now grant it, I don't have any problems with Jeremy's decision, but I do have the right to be irritated with people who dismiss it as being something completely distasteful and vile after all the work I put into it, especially when compared to the other YSI threads. EDIT: which brings me to another point: why do you (not aimed at any one person, but you [omg confusion lol lmao] get the idea) feel the need to voice your opinion on the matter, when you were never a part of what went on in there?
Jom is unemployed now :p
Hahahha, not at all. I still write articles and for Sputnikmusic, and that's just on MX. When it comes to other forums... heh. And plus, I still have my all-important uni work to keep me going. |

sort of advertising Jom is unemployed now :p |
if MX should be closed, cause of file-sharing i say: close the YSI-threads.
if someone really wants to have an album, he will always find a way, but not at the cost of this forum. /me has spoken :thumb: |
I say close the YSI threads! :thumb: [sic]
Whoa, what a brilliant idea! I wonder why people didn't do this already! Oh, wait. http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/member.php?userid=146953 Advertisin' |

I personally was simply uneasy about the idea of the thread, which is directly relevant to my choice not to participate in it and thus my opinion of its absence. I don't think it's neccesarily immoral to do such a thing as sharing, I just knew that eventually it was going to grow to its current size (and keep in mind that while your YSI thread was very astute and extremely clear on the issue of album uploads, others elsewhere on the site weren't) and that it would pose a risk for the site and its continued existance. So while it is not "distasteful and vile" in my opinion, it was nevertheless risky. When people would ask for "any songs by x band," often lots of people would, in their very helpful manners, upload not quite an album, but just lots of single songs. And I know that I personally, when I have downloaded a number of songs from a thread on a band, and I enjoy what I've got, sometimes I'm not quite inclined to go out and buy an album that'll just have repeat copies of songs I got via the internet, plus a few others that weren't. This defeats the purpose of the sharing: to promote a band and to ENCOURAGE people to spend money on them if they like the examples they hear. It seemed on my rare forays into the thread to lurk that that wasn't always going on. It's not your fault or anything, but that's just the way it is. EDIT: As to the "airing morals after the fact," yeah, I guess that's what I'm doing to a degree. I was content with merely not participating before, and it was a successful thread. Had I challenged it in any way, even with the notion that it was merely a risky (not an immoral) idea, I surely would have been shut down. And to me it wasn't a big deal that that was the case, but now that we ARE talking about it, I simply felt like sharing my thoughts on the issue. |

Can You Change the name to Creed/Alter Bridge Thread Please Thanks in Advance |
Don't you think you're exaggerating what people are saying?
No, not really.
I . . . knew that eventually it was going to grow to its current size.
lol go play the lottery and win millions of dollars with your absolutely brilliant foresight refl.
When people would ask for "any songs by x band," often lots of people would, in their very helpful manners, upload not quite an album, but just lots of single songs.
Yeah, from multiple albums. So what?
And I know that I personally, when I have downloaded a number of songs from a thread on a band, and I enjoy what I've got, sometimes I'm not quite inclined to go out and buy an album that'll just have repeat copies of songs I got via the internet, plus a few others that weren't. This defeats the purpose of the sharing: to promote a band and to ENCOURAGE people to spend money on them if they like the examples they hear.
Okay. I'm just saying that I'm willing to bet that people went out and supported the artists by buying their albums. I can speak from experience: people have written me saying that they liked what they heard, went out to buy the album, and really dig the album. Ask Kage in regards to Memento. He'll back me up.
It seemed on my rare forays into the thread to lurk that that wasn't always going on.
omgz operative word in sentence highlighted for effect.
As to the "airing morals after the fact," yeah, I guess that's what I'm doing.
No problems there. Understand, though, that people wonder why you didn't bother "airing" while this travesty was taking place. Writing the below doesn't really say much:
Had I challenged it in any way, even with the notion that it was merely a risky (not an immoral) idea, I surely would have been shut down.
Probably. I don't think it would have stopped you from going on and on and on, though, so you can say that you put in your $.02. It's not like you've tried to stop yourself before. |
I would just like to add that I bought 3 albums by bands that I had never even heard of before untill I went into the YSI thread. One of them being Arcturus who I had never heard before a mere 2 months ago, heard some in the YSI thread, and now they are one of my favorite bands and I am desperately seeking to find whatever I can of their catalogue. I think the YSI thread served it's purpose very well.
How are either of those against the rules???
the 2nd one isn't but the first one I'm fairly sure is, those kinds of polls, aren't they? |
That first one is a versus thread and unlikely to spark any good discussion, the second isn't illegal.

Oh, I didn't see the poll. :embareassed: |
Cain, Jom, Iai, and anyone else involved:
Jom is joking, don't take him too seriously, he likes to annoy people. Everyone just try to make sure you fully understand the tone of a post before you start a pages long discussion on it. Please, let's not be haterz. We all love each other, we just like to play, not everything posted here is serious, but if there is need for seriousness, be serious. Just stop fighting like kids, especially when there is no reason and it's just a matter of misunderstanding. Get jokes, stay in school, etc. Thanks. |

I think this thread is Illegal, if not it's still a poor thread
Why would it be illegal? and it's a thread proiding and inspiring discussion about the new Cryptopsy song, it's not exactly a bad thread. |
I would like to enquire:
Has the Featured genre game died, if not, would I be able to do one? (To whoever it may concern) |
