Behind Jari Maenpaa definately my favorite, but certainly nowhere near the technical skill of people liek Vai.

I was wondering why I couldn't find one. It should have occured to me that that's copyrighted. I want one. But I'll probably have to settle for a jackson....
Yeah, Alexi was saying that the US models wwon't be the same as that, and that the lower fin will be longer, whereas that one is exactly the same as his. But I wouldn't buy that one, I'd rather have one of the black ones. |
I agree with most of this. Alexi is nowhere even close to the best guitarist technically wise, but for inspiration and creativity in some of his solos, he's pretty high. Definately my current hero.
what amaze me about his solos is the fact that i can listen to them 1000x times and they aren't getting boring. i love his art of composing solos!! in my opinion he made his best ones on Hate Crew Deathroll ... every solo is great. |
I'd have to say pretty much every solo is great, full stop. There's a few exceptions and I have to go "meh" but there's loads of them that have a great part, if not that whole thing. I love the solos in "Children of Bodom", "Warheart", "Hatebreeder", "Hatecrew Deathroll", "Living Dead Beat", 2nd solo in "Sixpounder", Spit on Your Grave by Sinergy. Those are a few that I like that I can think of.
I got Suicide by my Side album today by Sinergy. |
i only saw one video by Sinergy and i couldn't stand them... its mainly cause i don't like power metal, though the guitar work is really nice :D but thats all
|
Some of the stuff is gay but some songs are cool. I like I Spit on your Grave, Suicide by my Side so far. I only really bought it for those 2 and just to see what else Alexi thought of outside of Bodom. You can hear Roope playing some cool solos too.
|
Yeah the songs seem like they are just ones that weren't good enough to make the cut for Bodom. Besides Spit on Your Grave I don't really like any.
|
would someone mind, send me some of their GOOD stuff? would be nice
|
I think maybe they wrote them like that because they didn't want to write Bodom worthy riffs otherwise people might start to focus on them more, or just because it turned more "accessible" because of the way Kim sings.
|
You have AIM?

i hate her voice... :upset: no i don't have AIM or MSN; but it would be great if you will send me one or two songs to repcak@gmx.at |
She's got a real goofy lisp it makes me laugh.
|
It does get annoying I must say but I never listen to vocals when I put on a CD, because I'm a guitarist/drummer, that takes priority in my ears.
Alexi does his bit on one of the songs though, it's awesome. |
Yeah Shadow Island is a decent song, Alexi's vocals are cool.
|
Does anyone question the fact that Alexi could be the greatest if not in the top 3 of all time?
Far from it. repcak: They have no good songs. :p |
Alexi isn't THAT great of a guitar player compared to some... he is damn awesome, but best guitar player that is currently alive?
|
i think hes a great guitar player
ive never heard any synergy songs so i dont know what kim sounds like |
Everyone, take this into conscideration. Alexi is only 26 ( I believe). Not many guitarists get as lucky as he did from the work he has done. As much as I don't like Trivium, Matt Heafy, and the other guitarists will also add up to be just as amazing as the best, because Matt Heafy is only 19 right now, and after watching the solo's he has done for "In The Fire" for Roadrunner United with the other guitarists, my jaw dropped. Alexi is better than Petrucci (don't flame me for that haha) in my opinion, because Alexi doesn't play so damned technical that he plays everything perfect. I hate perfection (at least live) because it is much more boring because you could just hear the record at home. Right now, the top guitarists in my book (whether I like them or not) are Alexi Laiho, Rusty Cooley (if you have never heard of him, you MUST download his song "Under the Influence), Matt Heafy, and Herman Li (not because of his riffs in general, but because of his performance and astonishing solo's).
|
Perfection live? Why go to a show if you WANT the band to mess up?
|
Perfection live? Why go to a show if you WANT the band to mess up?
You don't, but live you can see that they are truely having fun by how they are playing. If you are just standing around all bored, I get just as bored no matter what they are playing. That's why bands like Dragonforce are so damned amazing live, because they jump around like monkeys on speed! Playing live, you can tell how much they want to be there by their performance. |
Matt heafy isn't very good tbh. On the Young Guitar DVD he's pretty sloppy at playing even basic slides, bends abd vibrato, it's horrible. Corey plays harder and faster stuff than him and and it's Matt that shows more stuff on there, even though it's just 8th note melodies...
Under the Influence isn't great compared to Peace of Mind IMO. |
I think Trivium's guitarists are okay but their songwriting is horrible.
|
When you saying songwriting, do you mean lyric wise or guitar stuff?
|

The double solo's Matt and Corey do are awsome. I am not into Peace of Mind as much. I like it. Winged Prayer is better IMO. But, there is a video of Rusty playing UTI in his guitar room, and it is insane! I have a full video of him though which is instructional... he plays so fast it will scare you. Faster than Micheal Angelo! |

Sure. But seeing a band live that doesn't move around much or swing their heads is very boring to me. I know, it is all about music, but why pay $20 or more a ticket and see a band tapping their foot? And to the whole Trivium thing, I really do not like their music at all, but some times people need to keep open minds that bad bands can still have good musicians. I think Dream Theater is made up of all amazing musicians, but they could all possibly do better in other bands. |
The music i meant, lyrics aren't music.
The music i meant, lyrics aren't music.
Yeah but some people mean song writing as in lyrics, like Shania Twain or someone. |
Yeah but some people mean song writing as in lyrics, like Shania Twain or someone.
Ehh, if they were smart they'd realize lyrics aren't actually music, they are literature. |
Yeah. Lyrics don't matter nearly as much as the sound of their voice with their music. That's even why Alexi never adds much for lyrics with his albums, 'cause even he doesn't like his own lyrics.
|
I whole heartedly agree. I can listen to a song 50 times and not be able to recite a line, it's the vocal melody and the flow of sounds and syllables that make a singer good.
|
Yeah. It is so much cooler to hear a voice, without knowing what it is saying, and feel so much more from that than anything you do understand. I love it when the whole band sings in the background at the chorus too without knowing most of what they say, it sounds so much more powerful to me that way.
|
Thats why I love Wintersun so much, I don't even know what Jari is saying most of the time but it all just flows together so well melodically that it just kinda clicks in my head. The lyrics happen to be awesome but I knwo what he's sayin without even hearing him becuase the music describes it so extremely well.
|
Yeah. That's why I love so much Bodom. I couldn't care what Alexi is saying most of the time, because it sounds so cool anyway. Especially the Bodom Beach Terror chorus. I havn't heard much Wintersun, but I do like "Beyond the Dark Sun"... that's one of three songs I have heard by them. But, Sonata Arctica has great vocals like that too.

I assume people liked going to Beatles concerts. |

Yeah, but that was the start. And AC/DC (at least Angus) never stopped moving! It didn't matter. Classic rock was the beginning of alot, and people shook around like crazy. But really, the audience's reaction to the music, is usually the same as the band's reaction to their fans. |
