Dude, I got something like that once. I got really ill on a trip to New York (people blame the huge amounts of caffeine in my system from drinking several Mountain Dews a day for a week, but they are WRONG!) and when I got off the plane my ear was all deaf and stuff.

Apparently I had "Left acute otitis media" and all the tubes in my ear had got full of crap. They gave me some capsules. I cant swallow capsules - ended up pouring the stuff into fruit juice concentrate hehe.

But yeah, took 4 weeks to heal.

FOUR WEEKS.

I hope you haven't got this dude.

I hope not either. On the other hand, I believe that might have been caused by illness combined with odd pressure changes due to you being on the plane. Mine is only happening in one ear and it feels as though water is just blocked up in it. When I cover my right ear, my hearing power is as if I'm covering my left ear too: it's not totally deaf.

How would he go about doing that? With the bottom of an ice skate and a very hot waffle? :p Good work on the thread, by the way.

So good morning to y'all. My day hasn't gone by yet, but it's going to be good, knowing that I'm out of here in precisely a week. If your day isn't goin' good, I have no pity for you  .

In America, there is a breakfast called "Belgian waffles." Fruit can be added on top of it, or chocolate chips and whipped cream, or just syrup and butter and powdered sugar. They look like this:

Oh, those glorious Belgian waffles !

Since Jelle is from Belgium, he is Belgian. Since Belgian waffles are from Belgium, Jelle is therefore a waffle, since he is also from Belgium :)

I did see it, and took no issues with it and so I didn't feel the need to reply. It seemed to be a good response. I think I just need to get used to it, and I'm well on my way. :) Anyway, I'm rewriting my prog metal songs based on Lord of the Rings to incorporate some of the cool power metal things I've been exposed to (the original version was written two years ago, and strikes me as rather amateur), and to that end I also went out and bought Rhapsody's "Power of the Dragonflame" and have been getting a lot of enjoyment out of it thus far. :) Good to see you again, BTW, I haven't spotted you recently.

It's been a pretty busy time for me. I just got an internship at Pittsburgh Filmmakers and might be able to schmooze my way into ushering at a special premiere of Land of the Dead. Tom Savini will be making all the ushers up as zombies, so I'm pretty psyched about that as you can imagine. I'm such a fanboy. :p

I'm also working on some screenplays, and will be shooting my first movie soon. I just need to complete the script. If anyone's interested, I could post excerpts of what I have so far in YSI.

And of course in between all of that, I'm doing research for my spotlight threads. This weekend is a double feature: Diamond Head and Celtic Frost.

And somewhere in the middle of all, I'm looking for a job to make ends meet. :upset:

Of 2006? Who knows?

It had better be better than Day of the Dead, though. That movie blew extra hard.

What kind of a budget is this movie on? I've seen stills and it doesn't look very high.

Steerpike 06-07-2005 11:48 AM

I think the real premiere is June 28, but Romero is having a special screening in Pittsburgh on the 22nd. He shot all the previous films in the area, and it served as his base of operations for years. He wanted to film Land of the Dead in the city proper, but alas it was too expensive and he had to go to Toronto.

To compensate, the set design is all modeled after Pittsburgh architecture, which actually lends itself well to Romero's style of suspense.

... Okay, I think I went a bit overboard.

This summer. The trailer is available on Yahoo right now. Bear in mind that Night of the Living Dead is a classic flick and had a very low budget.

Watch the trailer, I think you'll be impressed.

No, of this year. And by Day of the Dead, do you mean the remake or the original?

The budget for this movie is actually decent. I don't really see how it can fail - it's got Romero back directing it (and he's got a real budget to work with), along with Asia Argento and a cameo zombie.

Dawn of the Dead was the one that was remade: I don't think they've remade Day of the Dead yet. I could be wrong, but in any case I'm talking about the original. The overacting in that movie is preposterous, as is the variety of costumes Romero puts on his grey-faced legions. It's just way too much camp to see ghouls dressed in Hawaiian shirts with the sunglasses and hat still on, or to see a zombie teenager still dressed in his full football uniform including helmet. Just silly.

There are really two reasons people still watch that movie.

1. Tom Savini's gore effects.
2. Bub.
There are really two reasons people still watch that movie.

I think the subplot with Bub is kind of silly though. The "science" surrounding their explanations for why zombies are animate even though they're dead is rather weak. And the movie isn't really that scary. There's just too many zombies, and they are all dressed in retarded clothes. The story could have been much cooler, but in ways it was also a retread of "Dawn of the Dead," except instead of a mall, they're stuck in a boring bunker. And the ending? Give me a ****ing break.

Now, to be honest, I think the remade Night of the Living Dead is terrifying. The setting is very eerie, and the zombies move incredibly slowly (one of the reasons I was less than satisfied with the remade "Dawn of the Dead.") They're all very gory and disgusting, and the atmosphere is incredibly eerie.

And IMO, regardless of how scary it is, I consider 28 Days later to be a brilliant movie. Thoughts?

It's interesting how things like this work in zombie horror.

Romero's mythos of uber-creepiness and suspense that eats you alive requires the zombies to be slow, shambling juggernauts.

Conversely, you have more action-oriented movies like 28 Days Later that require something speedier.

The Dawn of the Dead remake has to be divorced from the former and taken as the latter to be enjoyed. It's all in the stylistic approach. You can't have it both ways.

Interestingly, pre-dating Night of the Living Dead was an Italian film called Zombie! that played off a lot of different world cultures' perceptions of zombies. The creatures in this film were basically brainless killing machines, but not only could they run, they could also swim, leap, and some even flew. One of the most famous scenes in the film apparently is a zombie fighting a shark.

I haven't seen it myself. Yet. But a friend of mine at college owns a copy so I plan on watching it this Fall.

I didn't like 28 days later. Atleast not the army addition, the beginning was probably the best part. The army was a unique idea and saved it from being just another zombie movie, but that is where I started not likeing it. I really liked the movement of the zombies though, it actually made them seem like they were sick.
