I'm 15 and my parents won't even let me play teen games some times. Occaisonally I won't be allowed to see PG13 flicks either >;(. I should be allowed to see the Godfather soon now that I'm 15 though.
:upset: That sucks. Families in general suck until you become independent. They judge you just as any other person (sometimes positively, sometimes negatively), only you can choose your friends, but are stuck with your family. I'm sorry your mom feels the need to judge you so harshly, but I give you big props for having the balls to come out to her about your beliefs.
Regarding the Creatopia thing, Josh and I had a huge revelation around 1 o'clock in the morning while talking on AIM one day over vacation, and I made a thread about it.
It does suck. I come from an extremely devout Catholic family, and it's very hard to be around these people if you don't believe what they believe. I feel like an outsider now. After I told her how I felt she started telling me how I was shallow and self-centered and didn't give a shit about anyone but myself. I know she was probably just angry at the time, but it made me feel pretty bad. I don't understand how telling me I'm a terrible person is going to make me want to come back to religion. It seems to me that she has a very corrupt view of religion if she can rant for a half hour on why I'm now a worthless person and still consider herself to be superior to me. Unfortunately, I also go to a Catholic school, so most of my friends really can;t relate to me on this. /vent I'll check the thread.
You must be a pretty good actor. The way you talk about it here I'd have though she'd at least have had a hint of your feelings by now anyway.
I'm no actor. I couldn't believe it had come as such a shock to her. I'm always telling her that I don't want to go to church or take part in our many religious ceremonies. She used to constantly go off on how I don't seem to care and that I'll compeltely reject religion later in life. She seemed to pick up on it then, so I didn't really say anything new. |

Ergh, that rather sucks... Ben, there's nothing you can do about it, really...just concentrate on the day you leave. |
Ben, there's nothing you can do about it, really...just concentrate on the day you leave.
I'm trying, but with a recent financial problem that day might not be as happy as I had hoped it would. |
Speaking of M games, I'm really liking Resident Evil 4 right now. It's not nearly as creepy as the others but still a good game. Plus, it's really huge.
It's friggin' awesome I really think I'm lucky that my parents let me make my own decisions with regards to this stuff. I don't know how that reflects on their skills as parents, but I was playing Res Evil by the time the second one came out. Like we talked about last night, I think proper parental care means that kids don't become "influenced" by violent entertainment. My Mum was brought up Catholic, but I would say she's lapsed, and my Stepmother is also Catholic, she goes to Mass on a sunday, but doesn't object to my music tastes besides the fact it's metal :p and wouldn't dream of forcing that on me. However, I pay similar respect to her, by simply not talking about religion, and respecting what she believes. Personally, I don't know what I believe, I'm about Agnostic, but have no real idea. It's something I don't spend alot of time thinking about, I have plenty of problems down here on earth, without worrying what happens after. |
My mom watched me play "Postal 2". Nuff said.
|
I hated the demo I played of Resident Evil 4. It was the most player unfriendly game I've ever played...
My family's just full of unpracticing Christians...we celebrate the holidays, and that's it. |
My mom watched me play "Postal 2". Nuff said.
I have always wanted to check that game out, but never had the chance. |
I hated the demo I played of Resident Evil 4. It was the most player unfriendly game I've ever played...
Really? How so? I thought the controls were simple, and the most effective I've ever seen in a game. Well, for GC, at least. |
I have always wanted to check that game out, but never had the chance.
I don't condone piracy or anything, but don't buy it unless you pay dirt cheap. It's hilarious being able to piss on people and burn them to a crisp, but it does get old fast. |
My mom watched me play "Postal 2". Nuff said.
I haven't played that in ages. It was so much fun in short bursts. There's a film being made of it, apparently. Does anyone know when GTA came out? It's annoying me now. |
Whoa, how do you mean? The controls are much simpler than the other games, really. X button for actions. R1 to aim, X to fire, Square to reload. L1 to use knife, that's about it... |

Piss on people? Im getting this game. I could probably get it for under 10 dollars at Game Stop. Bartender, do you mean the original GTA or the newer ones? |
Really? How so? I thought the controls were simple, and the most effective I've ever seen in a game.
Well, for GC, at least.
It's just horribly unfriendly. You can't move while aiming (I don't give a crap if it builds "suspense", it SUCKS) and the camera view really pissed me off. Which GTA, Tender? |

Which GTA, Tender?
You can move your gun, and that's all you need, just unaim if you want to move Leon, foo' Oh, it's the GC version...that explains alot... |
Which GTA, Tender?
Just GTA. The first one. |
You can move your gun, and that's all you need, just unaim if you want to move Leon, foo'
Oh, it's the GC version...that explains alot...
The GC version > the PS2 one. If only for the fact we got it first. |

If you judge a person (and it's pretty difficult to not do so), my opinion is that you should judge the person by their deeds and/or personality, not their beliefs. For example, and I'm assuming this is your case, if you're a top-knotch citizen who helps others whenever the need arises, etc, your mother shouldn't think of you as a bad person just because you disagree with her religious beliefs. The trouble with Catholicism is that a lot of Catholics view themselves as being the next best thing to God when compared to nonreligious people. |
the camera view really pissed me off.
Really? I always thought the camera view was an improvement to other titles in the series.
Oh, it's the GC version...that explains alot...
Is that supposed to mean something? |
Just GTA. The first one.
Ah... No idea then. :p My ex girlfriend's parents were devout Christians...she just goes along with it, I guess. |
The GC version > the PS2 one. If only for the fact we got it first.
 That could be the only possible reason. Anyone who says 0H t3h GrAFf1X R 50 B3tta. can piss off. I don't and never have, given a flying fuck about graphics in a game. |

Which GTA, Tender?
I love the game's controls. I suppose it sucks that you can't shoot while moving, but I never notice it as a hindrance while I play. |

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6111834/p-2.html
Thanks. With that in mind..I think I would have been miserable with parents who actually stuck to age guidelines. |
Thanks.
With that in mind..I think I would have been miserable with parents who actually stuck to age guidelines.
Glad I could have been of some assistance. My parents were like that until I turned 14. They always considered me mature for my age and figured I could handle it. |

I've noticed this. Compared to people of other religions (or nonreligious people), Catholics seems extemely full of themselves. This situation does suck. I don't think I'm a terrible person like she told me, and I don't think my entire life is worthless just because "I don't have God in my heart". I just wish people would leave me alone about this shit and let me believe what I want to believe. It's been shoved down my throat my entire life and I'm sick of it. By that I mean people around here. :p |
Glad I could have been of some assistance.
My parents were like that until I turned 14. They always considered me mature for my age and figured I could handle it.
Yeah, I suppose that's what mine must have been thinking too. Either that, or they're really awful parents and I just haven't noticed. Related note, I found out recently that apparently the legal age for alcohol in the UK is five. |

I seems suprising when you first see that, but it makes some sense since most people are probably more responsible with that privlege than Americans. I would not feel comfortable with that kind of drug in the hands of the youth of our nation.
