A band I'm going to see next week is playing with Bruce Peninsula.

Spaceman Spiff 10-15-2009 12:43 PM

Six Finger Satellite is wicked.

Oh shit, they're playing here in a week, too.

But I won't be able to go. Crap.

Well, good. buy their EP, Jack Can I Ride is too good.

fatbandit 10-15-2009 01:17 PM

Jon Shuker did some work on my bass today, and I 'played' the fanned fret 6 he is currently building too.

Best part is that he took payment for the work he did in biscuits XD

I will definitely look into it. It's just really funny that you mentioned them and then I went to buy the tickets and found out they were supporting.

Who did you see them with?

How's the fanned 6 feel?

this montreal klezmer band, which was ok, then an indie band from some eastern state, that was also just ok.

It wasn't strung up yet, but I got a good idea of the feel of it. It was apparently a 35-32 fan, though I'm sure he said it was 36-32 before. Either way, it wasn't too uncomfortable, but I think the higher frets got a bit messy and tight together. It really needs a slightly less severe fan, to my mind. A 35-33 might be quite neat, and spread over 7 strings would be less severe anyway.

Do you have big fingers?

The fan on mine is 35-32 and I don't find it too cramped in the upper register.

fatbandit 10-15-2009 01:58 PM

I'd say I have... normal fingers?

Like I say, I'm convinced that was a 36-32, but now I'm not entirely sure because of what Jon said. It might just be that I wasn't used to it, but it was definitely quite hard to get around up there.

Epidemechanical 10-15-2009 02:00 PM

since when is a part time job 30+ hours?

why is it whenever you get a part time job, they work you way too much, and whenever you get a full time job, you never get enough hours

oh oh pick me pick me i know

part time employees are easier to take advantage of

The Dingwall Afterburners and the new Combustions 5-strings are 37-34. Supposably they are extremely comfortable and the 37" B string is supposed to be ridiculously clear and tight. Maybe the 32" was just too little to be comfortable.

fatbandit 10-15-2009 02:17 PM

well i was thinking of a 36-32 at first, but i'm thinking 36-33 now.... hm.

You answered your own question... Part time workers being young teenagers are basically slave laborers where you can easily work them to the full extent of the 40 hr cut off and pay them significantly less.

When you're a full time worker you actually need to be respected- legally.

Cramboli 10-15-2009 06:55 PM

Yeah it's like how walmart doesn't do overtime but will have you work it even though you check out at 42+hours it cuts itself of at like 39...

It's easier to abuse full time employees over here, barely anyone is part time because you get paid hourly and still get full time benefits. Full time runs on salary and they'll use that to make you work stupidly long shift/no breaks/overtime without paying. Casual is where the money is at without the benefits.

It's one of those oh you can only work so long in the day but they give you way more things to do that you can't fit in the time, then when you turn around and leave on time they are like "why didn't you do this" then count how many times that happens (which I guess is allot) then eventually use it as a reason to fire you so you can't collect unemployment from them... And then you also get punished for working overtime even though they practically make you... It's like say you start working there and you can get everything done in the time allotted then they give you more then you do that almost with enough time but manage to pull it off then they just keep piling **** on until you can't get it all done...

Haha.

The "R" stands for rape victim.

FunkMetalBass 10-16-2009 09:51 AM

Does anybody have any insight on this?:

"Deep Talkin' Extra Long Scale

Important note: La Bella flatwound strings are not suitable for use on instruments that require through-body stringing."

Spaceman Spiff 10-16-2009 10:02 AM

Oh my. Wilco was incredible. I was expecting a good show, but nothing like that.

Feist came out and sang a song with them, too, as she appears on their new album on a song.

The place was all seats, I was 4th row on the floor.

FunkMetalBass 10-16-2009 10:32 AM

Gogol Bordello is coming to town next week. I've gotta go to that. It'll be my 4th time seeing them.<br>

gaslight 10-16-2009 10:41 AM

Other than you're not meant to use them for through-body stringing than nah nothing. If you mean the reason why not, nothing comes to mind.

FunkMetalBass 10-16-2009 10:43 AM
Other than you're not meant to use them for through-body stringing than nah nothing. If you mean the reason why not, nothing comes to mind.
Maybe it's because they are wound so far from both ends that the speaking length of the string is almost exactly the same as the scale length. However, if I bought the 35" (extra long scale) strings and put them thru-body on my 34" fender, I'd probably be fine.

gaslight 10-16-2009 10:46 AM

Could always e-mail them I'm sure they'd give you the lowdown.

thats how it is where i work. bosses don't care about employees, all they care about is freight. if you finish a job at 9 (when shift ends) and there is still stuff left to do on the dock, you cant go until its done.

well, i say "cant" quite loosely, because i don't care - i'm not working longer than a 6 hour AT THE MOST shift.
