I imagine Les Claypool's probably worth some hideous amount because he's touched it.

Hmph. Until it sounds exactly like tommy the cat in the studio version I won't be pleased.

gaslight 10-14-2009 08:34 AM

Haha it's brutal to ask anything to sound like a final studio product :p. Especially from a youtube video.

FunkMetalBass 10-14-2009 09:15 AM

Lol. JC might still be selling that Rainbow bass. If I remember, his customer flaked on him halfway into the build, but he decided to throw some of his own money into it to finish up the project.

Those pictures are legitimately taken over the waterfall (as you can see from the shadows). It's just his style. Doesn't boteher me - he puts down protective padding so that he doesn't scrape it and if anything ever happens, he'll just have to re-build everything for his customer for free.

No wei.

That guy who does Tool Bass covers actually does a damn good job on Youtube.

Then again, he uses the EXACT same sh*t that Justin Chancellor does...and that's annoying.

gaslight 10-14-2009 09:27 AM

Hehe.

Does JC have a pricey set-up?

FunkMetalBass 10-14-2009 10:22 AM
Hehe.

He's got some decent equipment:

Not Alembic-status or anything, but decent.

gaslight 10-14-2009 10:25 AM

Oh I meant Justin Chancellor's bass set-up.

FunkMetalBass 10-14-2009 10:36 AM
Oh I meant Justin Chancellor's bass set-up.
Oh. Haha.

He uses a couple Wal basses (probably the most expensive single pieces of gear) (Mach Is & IIs, I believe)

Mesa Boogie 4x12
Mesa Boogie 8x10
Two GK 2001RB heads
Demeter Preamp

Guyatone Tremolo
Digitech Whammy
Tech 21 Distortion
Boss Chorus
Boss Flanger
Boss Delay
Guyatone Envelope Filter
Tone Bender Fuzz
Foxx Fuzz/Wah/Volume
Boss EQ
Pro Co RAT Turbo

FunkMetalBass 10-14-2009 10:42 AM

When I said it was "annoying," I meant that copying somebody's setup is annoying. Also, it disgusts me how much time he's probably spent listening to Tool songs and dialing in the sound perfectly.

fatbandit 10-14-2009 04:01 PM

going to the matamp factory tomorrow - wooo!

and copying someone's setup is ultimately pointless unless you know their exact settings on EVERY pedal and preamp. and you play exactly like them. altogether highly unlikely. far more interesting to forge your own sound.

which is exactly why i have been trying to cop the glassjaw tone for the last 6 months :p

karmapavementplan 10-14-2009 06:21 PM

Listening to bong-ra at 1 30am... good times, fun stuff.

FunkMetalBass 10-14-2009 08:11 PM

1:30am? It was 5:21pm. You UKers are so backwards...

Spaceman Spiff 10-14-2009 08:50 PM

I'm seeing Wilco tomorrow night. It should be awesome.

Epidemechanical 10-14-2009 10:16 PM

i was on a forklift all shift tonight

it isnt so bad
i was on a forklift all shift tonight

I can't imagine sitting on that thing for more than an hour at a time. I was so bored and tired of driving a forklift after the 3 hours I had to spend when I had to the back room and had to move everything.

gaslight 10-14-2009 11:29 PM

What are you forklifting Raayl?

Epidemechanical 10-15-2009 07:23 AM
What are you forklifting Raayl?
i work at a freight dock

its a massive dock with hundreds of trailer doors

i just get a manifest and unload freight from trucks and load it into another truck

i move about 100,000 lbs of freight each shift give or take

funkyhoney 10-15-2009 07:29 AM

Stuff.

gaslight 10-15-2009 07:39 AM

That's pretty cool man.

Epidemechanical 10-15-2009 07:44 AM

eh it kind of sucks. its not a fun job. hard hard work. but the pay is good, and i get to drive indoors. so thats alright.

gaslight 10-15-2009 07:46 AM

Good pay is the kind of pay to get.

funkyhoney 10-15-2009 07:50 AM

My job is just **** at the moment but the pay gets me through. I really need a change though.

gaslight 10-15-2009 07:53 AM

Your job does seem to fill you with rage.

funkyhoney 10-15-2009 07:57 AM

I tell you what, today I was ready to go postal.

I even had a regular tell me that every time she sees me I look like I need to go and chill the **** out.

gaslight 10-15-2009 08:18 AM

Failed to anticipate the nerdy fun I can have practising scales on this sixer.

funkyhoney 10-15-2009 08:25 AM

Yikes. The nerdiest thing I do is read about sea creatures on wikipedia. The nerdiest thing the girl I'm interested in does is listen to the Gregorian Masters of Chant.

gaslight 10-15-2009 08:40 AM

This is awesome having new territory to practise. As much as I love four strings you can't get five and six note chord voicings on them.

Spaceman Spiff 10-15-2009 09:52 AM

Wilco is going to be dope tonight.
