I really want to continue the argument! :D
My final point: More technical songs with shredding are really common these days. If you compare Opeth and Nevermore soley in terms of song structure (which is very possible), Opeth have less traditional takes on it.
Structure does not a better band make - William Shakespeare. |
I'll settle w/e argument you guys are having....
Opeth > Nevermore |
I'll settle w/e argument you guys are having....
Opeth > Nevermore
Thats an opinion!! :p I love Opeth overall more, but right now I'm into Nevermore a lot, I'm practically a fanboy . I'll get over it, though. Theres just so much emotion and skill displayed all at once, and I think its awesome. |
I'll settle w/e argument you guys are having....
Opeth > Nevermore
Well, that's that. :p I'd love to see Nevermore live. I've been off them for awhile, since I bought EOR, but I think I'll try again after tonight. |
Thats an opinion!! :p
No! I <3 nevermore too, but I kind of got tired of them. |
Do you have Dreaming Neon Black?
To toaster. I probably will to, Damien. N.P - Still Day Beneath The Sun |
I do, don't know if that's directed at me.
|
God I love that album, its got so much power and feeling..
|
Finally completed the Opeth album list. Took me months to find Morning but I finally did it :D There was only a few songs on there I didn't already know, and I haven't had a chance to give them a thorough listen yet, but it seems awesome.

I'm still missing Still Life, but that's only because it's not released in the US and it always slips my mind when I go on my online shopping sprees.
I have it downloaded though, but that's not as cool. |
Yeah, I can't find Still Life either...
|
Can't find Still Life it in the US? I saw it nay but a week ago in an AUS store.
(unless you're talking getting the original jewel case release. I was lucky enough to get it second hand) |
I saw it at the mall the other day, and I didn't have enough money. Asked one of my friends to pick it up for me, she was like, "It'll be there next time you come." So I go the next day, and it's gone, obviously. Pretty mad about that.
|
I've definitely never seen Still Life in stores. I HAVE seen every other other Opeth album (except MAYH) in big stores like Tower, though. I'd just use Amazon or something to get it.
|
Well, now with the release of Ghost Reveries and since they're on a bigger, well known label, It wouldn't surprise me to see any Opeth album in a larger music store. I couldn't find anything a few years ago though, I had to order all of my Opeth albums except Orchid. Amazingly, FYE actually had that album in stock.
N.P. The Pursuit Of Vikings ~ Amon Amarth |
That's odd. When I first got into them a couple years ago major stores had just about all of their albums.
Amon Amarth! |

N.P. The Pursuit Of Vikings ~ Amon Amarth
Amon Amarth rocks. /NP Amon Amarth - The Valkyries Ride :D I still can't find any Opeth albums, the only one they carry now is Ghost Reveries. You can order them, but the last album I tried ordering, Majestic (Gamma Ray), I ordered at the beginning of October and it still hasn't gotten here. I'm doing everything over the internet now, I've had better luck with that. |
Come on, you know what I'm saying. Opeth have more unique ideas and formulas, and are generally more interesting and rewarding to listen to. Nevermore do have them beat in the guitarist departement, though.
Compositionally I would vehemently disagree on the guitarist point. And plus their sense of style is so different. I love Nevermore, but after seeing them in New York a few weeks ago I can see why some people think that heavy metal is a ridiculously funny form of music: Nevermore were so "metal" that compared to Opeth, who just exuded calm, commanding greatness all night, they looked and even sounded rather silly. The power metal was just coming out their asses, style-wise. Loomis is really good at shredding and coming up with easily headbangable technical riffs. But they don't hold a candle to Opeth in terms of compositional diversity. Bottom line: they're two very different bands. So whatev. |

Well, now that that arguments over.....Blink 182>Opeth :D
|
Well, now that that arguments over.....Blink 182>Opeth :D
Now thats just plain stupid. Blink 182 is so advanced, that compareing them to Opeth is also dumb. |
I went to Best Buy yesterday and they only had BWP, D&D and GR. I was sad :(
No Lamentations either. I got Rush in Rio though, so that made me happy. |
He's joking about Blink.
Oh, and Still Life is probably Opeth's best :D NP: Mastodon - "Megalodon" |
He's joking about Blink.
So was I, if you actually read my comment. |
My BestBuy had Orchid at one point...
Never had enough money for it. :upset: Ok, before the year is over, I'm making it my mission to pick up Lamentations. |

 True.
I went to Best Buy yesterday and they only had BWP, D&D and GR. I was sad :( No Lamentations either. I got Rush in Rio though, so that made me happy.
That sucks, at the Best Buy near me they have like a whole half isle devoted to Opeth. They don't have Lamentations for some reason though. Get a job, you bum. |
Get a job, you bum.
/applies to me too. What is everyones opinion on high/low pitched growls? I've been listening to Morningrise a bunch lately and I think I might be starting to like the high pitched ones more. They sound so evil. |
Low is better.

Hey Scruples where in TN do you live?
