listening to this one particular track now, i'm not too convinced

it's one of those cases where the music is well written and produced, and he comes across as an excellent performer. it just seem to lack that extra something, maybe I just listen to too much Jandek recently

I haven't listened to it enough to thoroughly assess his music which is why I am hesitant to discuss it at length, but my initial impressions were that it meanders a lot and there is a lack of drive, particularly in his vocals. This is not to say that I did not find it enjoyable on some level, but it just feels so safe, for lack of a better word. Still, time has a funny way of changing how I feel about things.
