I hate to discourage DIY, but I agree with Kevin.

Buy a pair of jeans or whatever you're looking for. Anything you buy is going to be of way better quality than anything you could make. It's worth the money. And if you really don't want to spend that much or you don't have that much money then just go to Salvation Army or something.

All_O_Gistics 01-11-2007 08:41 PM

im srsly asking a question

Flagjacket 01-11-2007 08:45 PM

Listen buying fabric and ruining a few yards is going to cost more than buying a pack of 6 white tees from Costco. I[mw earing on in my avatar and it's still fine.

Yeah..I'm gonna head down to the Goodwill one of these days to see if they have anything decent.

The thing is, though, that after two and a half years, my tastes in clothing have changed to things I really can't find around here. I've been desperate enough to look at some stuff in Hot Topic(no...just no..) . Not only is their stuff crap, but it's expensive crap. I figure that I can make something that appeals to my taste rather than search aimlessly...

I just got dumped. What's a DIY way of picking up guys?

:p
how do you make skinny jeans from regular ones. i need sewing tips
If you can't figure out how to make skinny jeans, then you probably can't sew well enough to keep them from falling apart.

The thing is that I don't like the stuff they have there, unless I suddenly find some nice drainpipes for cheap..(I hate hoodies, and band tee's are A. unsupporting of the artist, and B. A lot cheaper when you make them =P). And, I've never paid that much for clothes, and don't intend to now.

Flagjacket 01-11-2007 09:05 PM

Whatever I'm about to drop 300 odd dollars on a hoodie fuck y'all sweatshop workers!

Those pirate pickup lines are great. Too bad the guy who just dumped me was a huge fan of the whole pirate thing.

Yeah, after making that aquabats patch he dumps me. I guess my DIY is no way to pick up guys.

I've never shopped at a Hot Topic for myself before, and, as for a rebuttle, Hot Topic has got the WORST merchandise f'ucking ever. Once I walked in there, and saw two variations of the dreadful "I fling poo" with monkey on it, I was both shocked/awed.
how do you make skinny jeans from regular ones. i need sewing tips
Turn them inside out, put them on, pull them as tight as you want and put some pins in. Take them off and run a sewing machine down the line you created. Turn them so they're not inside out and put them on, seeing if they work. If so turn them inside out and run a few more lines of thread down the new seam to reinforce it, and cut off the excess. If not pull out the thread and try it again til you get it right.

I discovered Ragstock maybe a year ago, and now I get new clothes almost exclusively from there. 6$ jeans, flannel shirts for <3$, and most everything else for well under 10. (I get a discount, but it's still cheap at regular price.) I got this old Woolrich jacket for 10 at the beginning of the schoolyear, and I've worn it daily since then.

insaneflyingmonkey 01-13-2007 12:09 AM

Value Villages and thrift stores are where most of my clothes (excluding socks, undies and band tshirts that I buy at shows) come from... I haven't bought a pair of pants anywhere else in the last couple years.

You gotta remember that being dumped can turn into a way of life, so break out of the cycle now, unless you wanna end up like Nick or Kevin.

Flashbacks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_flashback#Flashbacks_and_HPPD

I don't really care if flashbacks exist or not. Drugs are bad for you, everyone knows that, but they can still be fun. Anyway, there are a multitude of things out there we all come in contact with that are infinitely worse for us than drugs. Capitalism, for one.

As for DIY, I'm doing a massive project right now: We're refurbishing an old club we squatted and a couple of shopfronts underneath it, and we're gonna have a social centre soon. Gonna be awesome.

They have Black Flag, Minor Threat, and some random hardcore band tees at mine and comic book ones too.

DIY Tip That Some of You Probably Already Know:

If you have a sore throat then get a cup and fill it with warm water and mix in some salt. Then get a mouthfull of it and gargle and spit it out. Do this about 3 times. Makes your throat feel sooo much better.

Twin Human Highway Flares 01-13-2007 08:52 PM

I've heard that for canker sores as well.

asdf 01-13-2007 10:11 PM

I just put salt directly onto my canker sore.

It burns. A lot. But it works for me.

I tried my first effort at DIY friday...Horrible job, but it came out pretty rad. It's a JCHC fishy, like the "Jesus fish" ya see on everyone's car, only I mean it. Anyways, I made an anti-stencil out of paper, placed on my shirt and started to spray paint it. The paint was horrible, the flow was bad, and it didn't seem to work well at all. It could be that that paint has been in out of use for two years, and the can's all rusted and old and stuff..Anyways, what paint do you guys use and where do ya get it?

Jon 01-14-2007 07:44 AM

are there any mirrors of the content on diy auction? or anything similar?

eran did you go to the peckham squat eviction party?

Jon 01-14-2007 08:05 AM

fabric paint from the art shop.

its really expensive, but at least it doesn't wash off.
