If you want a teaser, go onto http://www.centurymedia.com and download Lost To Apathy.

If that doesn't confirm your love for Character, you don't deserve to live.
It's terrible, no more, no less. Awful.

Shattered_Future 11-18-2005 11:17 PM

I hope that's sarcasm I detect...

Toaster 11-18-2005 11:21 PM

 I wanted to see your reaction. It's serisously awesome though. Production is way better, same with vox. Excited now! New albums are sweet.

Shattered_Future 11-18-2005 11:23 PM

The thing I like about Stanne's voice is it keeps getting progressively better each album, eventually culminating in an album like this.

Even Akefeldt can't hold a candle to him in certain parts of Character.

Special Brew 11-18-2005 11:24 PM
I've never heard of them, or heard of any post about them.
Someone was asking for similar bands to Opeth, and some guy suggested Soundsleep and posted a link to some mp3s of theirs. I'm pretty sure it was in here, because I don't know what other thread it could have been.

Kaiwaz 11-18-2005 11:26 PM

Please don't hate me, Future, but I think Character is weak. It's the only Dark Tranquillity album I didn't buy.

Back To Opeth! Everyone listen to Black Rose Immortal now!

I don't know man, look through the pages is my only suggestion.

I just happen to be listening to BRI when I read that.

Special Brew 11-18-2005 11:33 PM

I looked through about 50 pages and gave up.

Really? Man, it's just like Damage Done, except it's its older, wiser, more adept big brother.

Meh, your opinion.

I'd much rather prefer we listen to Finntroll...for some reason, I put them on.

Darkness 11-18-2005 11:37 PM

I have Nevermore going. :) I just can't stop listening to them.. I love them... almost as much as Opeth!

/Knows in the long run he will stick with Opeth more then Nevermore

If you're serious, that's crazy! It's such an epic song. It's beauty warms me at night. :)

Oh well, listen to Black Rose Immortal, it might clear your head. :D

Spinal Pap 11-18-2005 11:39 PM

I've heard a whole lot about Nevermore, I might have to check them out. Whats a good cd to start with?
If you're serious, that's crazy! It's such an epic song. It's beauty warms me at night.
lol well I wouldn't go that far but it is a beatiful song. The higher pitched growls have really grown on me.
Oh well, listen to Black Rose Immortal, it might clear your head.
Most definitely.

I like all Dark Tranquillity, I just couldn't get into Character. I will never abandon Skydancer. It's such a vital breakthrough album of the early and late 90's. No one at the time was playing that style, and even today bands can't even come close to it's vibe.

You could seriously pick anyone, and be pleased. Dreaming Neon Black is a really heavy concept album with a pretty harsh production, Dead Heart in a Dead World isn't quite as heavy, but still very excellent in all ways, and the lastest, This Godless Endeavor is also awesome with blazing riffs and solos. Any of them can be considered their best. After these 3, then you can venture into their other albums.

Yeah, in the grand scheme Opeth is more unique. Nevermore, as much as I love them, will always be the masters of traditional song formulas.

Darkness 11-18-2005 11:45 PM

They venture out of traditional song formulas, at least, more then some bands.

Toaster 11-18-2005 11:47 PM

Compared to Opeth, though? They're like power pop in contrast.

Darkness 11-18-2005 11:48 PM

You can't compare a band like that to a prog band though, there just a heavy metal band with some thrashy, death influences.

Toaster 11-18-2005 11:52 PM

Come on, you know what I'm saying. Opeth have more unique ideas and formulas, and are generally more interesting and rewarding to listen to. Nevermore do have them beat in the guitarist departement, though.

Darkness 11-18-2005 11:53 PM

Opeth are in a league of their own though (like Tool), they shouldn't be compared to bands like Nevermore. And yes, Jeff Loomis slays Mikeal and Peter. :D Even they said that in those Opeth guitar lessons.
Compared to Opeth, though? They're like power pop in contrast.
Haha, I want what you're smoking. Opeth are more often referred to as power pop than Nevermore.

Alright, well in that case I'll just pick up the one with the coolest cover art.:thumb:

You will still be confronted with a tough choice. :thumb:
Oh well, listen to Black Rose Immortal, it might clear your head. :D
Actually, I'll put on some PsyOpus. I've been more into grindcore lately. I really only listen Opeth in the car these days. I'll get back to them, I always do. I go off on wild musical phases like this sometimes.

Toaster 11-19-2005 12:05 AM
Haha, I want what you're smoking. Opeth are more often referred to as power pop than Nevermore.
 You know I meant it in terms of songwriting, right? Opeth generally write 7 min + songs. Nevermore have more or less standard structures to their songs. I don't do drugs.

Darkness 11-19-2005 12:14 AM

Like I said, there so different, that comparing them is pretty much pointless. Mikeal writes long songs, Jeff writes more technical songs with mad shredding.

Toaster 11-19-2005 12:17 AM

I really want to continue the argument! :D

My final point: More technical songs with shredding are really common these days. If you compare Opeth and Nevermore soley in terms of song structure (which is very possible), Opeth have less traditional takes on it.

Darkness 11-19-2005 12:18 AM

Nobody does it like Nevermore my friend, nobody. Yes, Opeth often have stranger song structures. I knew that from the beginning, and I don't really know what you're arguing... :p
