Lost Horizon is the only PM band that's worth listening.
oh, and Falconer. |
I could really do without Lost Horizon.
Heretic.
Lost Horizon are freaking awesome. I'll fire them up once this Manowar song ends.
Manowar songs end
One of my friends who's really into power metal wants me to go see Sonata Arctica with him next month, I might go just for fun.

They have a new guitarist I'd be interested to see if he's as good as the last one. Although I didn't really like the last one. |
The last one was awesome live. In fact, the entire band was awesome live, far, far better than they are on their studio albums. Their set felt about 4 hours too long though.
I don't know much about the band, I have one of their albums and find it to be decent, but I need to go to a show so I'll probably go.
I have a live CD and the singer really strains himself...I suppose that is to be expected for any PM band live though.
He was near-flawless when I saw them. The problem with the live CD is that Japanese crowds are notoriously restrained during them. The gig I went to was almost totally dependant on Kakko playing with the audience.
Which album do you have Angmar?
I have Silence.

Lord Tim mentioned that once before. Whenever the song ended, the crowd went dead silent listening to what he had to say. Very surreal. I think the most animated I've ever seen a Japanese crowd was Tokyo Warhearts. |
Sonata Arctica are an absolute ball to watch live. You should go even if you don't care about the music that much...they come across so much better in a live setting.
SA had some really good stuff but Unia really disappointed me, they where all mid-tempo, who does that? ITS BORING
Silence is the **** though |
I'm not a big fan of midpaced power metal, it only really works with a phenomenal lead singer.
i recently picked up Thy Majestie's Jeanne d'Arc and its a good album. about a 3.5 right now
I haven't found a power metal band that I've liked from Italy.
Well theres only Rhapsody, Vision Divine & Labyrinth ... all fronted by the same guy I think.
lol where has this thread been for all this time? |

I agree. All I've heard is too wimpy. |
I just got Blind guardians Live DVD .. Mirror Mirror made my hairs stand.
That's a great DVD
Thy Majestie is okay but it's really standard stuff.
only band i've heard from Italy was Rhapsody and love them.
Rhapsody is epic and cheesy :D

Rhapsody of Fire and Luca Turrilli are win. I also like Rata Blanca. That song below applies strongly to my life personally. http://youtube.com/watch?v=GXVTmBqKV4o |

Do they have a castrati choir? I'm just throwing it out there because that would be truly awesome for a power metal band. |
No, but they have the greatest power metal singer ever with Wails that destroy any type of choir imaginable.
