wth rapping is like...fun. idk why people think im serious everything anyone ever raps is either a joke, exageration[sp?] or an all out lie...

anyways, no i live in California. I live in a city where 38% of the people were not born in this country and about 43% of all people are white. im not totally sure, but i think California is one of the most diverse states in the union.

idk my friend and i are coming with ideas like general angst for modern politics/economics, but lately i've really been on the whole systematic supremacy of whites in the united states and what racial equality really means.

gaslight 03-03-2010 07:14 AM

Well keep us posted on that.

Those sound like cool ideas, don't stop coming up with them.

I got my Avatar 210 cab today, and a Gallien Krueger 700IIRB.

It sounds so good.

Good to hear it, my man. I almost bought a very similar setup on Craigslist not too long ago for a practice/small gig rig. Except it was a 2x12 w/ the GK head.

Urbreathsmells 03-04-2010 11:34 AM

Yeah man I love it. I hope it handles small - medium sized gigs well. I don't have enough $$ to buy a new cab anytime soon.

Spaceman Spiff 03-04-2010 11:37 AM

My band has a show coming up at a wicked venue in a few weeks. I can't wait. We're even busting out a couple of new songs that'll be on the next album.

Spaceman Spiff 03-04-2010 11:38 AM

I saw Wilco a couple of months ago and everyone in the band used small combo amps. You should be fine.

FunkMetalBass 03-04-2010 01:09 PM

As long as you have a PA, an amp is kind of moot.

I played at a Metal Festival back in November, and for one of the bands, the bassist brought a 2-space rack with an X2 wireless and a preamp. He DI'd into the house. I might do that same thing for some of the smaller stages we play where there's just no room to put my full stack on stage. I just hope the monitors have enough bass in them.

gaslight 03-04-2010 05:14 PM

There's next to no reason a band should own it's own PA unless you're playing piece of crap venues that don't have their own front of house equipment.

The exception is if you have a band that does weddings, corporate functions etcetera, then it's kind of a good idea.

Combo amps will get you through any gig as long as the front of house system is in place, your amps on stage aren't for volume, they're for your ears on stage and for getting good tone.

Part of me never gets over the disappointment every time I see a newbie band (or worse, one that should know better) playing a 100-capacity bar room using 8x10 bass rigs and full guitar stacks cranked to their maximum. You can just see the sound guy take one look and begin to calculate how far away he can afford to run that will still allow him time to come back for the next band.

Gattsu347 03-04-2010 10:18 PM

no one counts, until they're dead

gaslight 03-04-2010 10:43 PM

Yeah that's exactly what I was trying to say.

I have my own PA, but we use it for practice. We don't take it to gigs.

I rock 8 rack spaces on top of a 4x10 and 1x18. We're always one of the quieter bands throughout the night, though, because we always get good feedback that you can hear us really clearly.

Sablate McNuff 03-04-2010 11:53 PM

Oh man, this Nordy pickup sounds amazing. I'm so glad I got it. Hopefully next week I'll get the OBP-3 wired up into this beast and I'll get the fake neck pickup and I'll be all set. :)

gaslight 03-05-2010 12:12 AM

I could never be bothered carting a rig that giant around but, if you love every component of it I can understand why you do it.

Hell yeah. 2800W amp, preamp, tuner, power conditioner, compressor (for the DI, sound guys like that), crossover @150hz, 4x10, 1x18. The 4x10 is boosted up to my ear so that I can hear what I'm playing and with a stereo power amp, I can easily use my 18 to help fill the room with bass if the PA is lacking.

I really would like to start gigging a "simpler" rig, though. In due time, I guess. Still gotta finish a couple re-fins before I can start on that BFM cab.

Gattsu347 03-05-2010 12:54 AM

so umm anyone wanna hear some riffage i just made in the reasonz?

gaslight 03-05-2010 12:56 AM

At least you know you'll never need any more power, I suppose.

My aim is to have a really nice super portable rig, but I want really nice stuff so it'll still cost a few thousand so, not for a while unless I get a lot of money I'm not expecting. My rig is pretty light already but I mean something like, the head can fit in my gig bag pocket and the cab is a small one-hand carry deal, comfortable enough to cart around a train or a bus, long walks, all that.

My next purchase is going to be boring though, just a little practise amp to carry around for teaching at schools and ****.
so umm anyone wanna hear some riffage i just made in the reasonz?
make a thread for it or something

Spaceman Spiff 03-05-2010 01:08 AM

I'll probably end up with a Twin Reverb. I have no reason to fight it. They sound excellent and would be all I need.

gaslight 03-05-2010 01:13 AM

I wouldn't mind one either.

I'm good for now for guitar amps though, I have a nice little Blackstar combo. My only gripe is that it doesn't have onboard reverb. I'll recruit a few pedals and things for fun though that'll still cost a pretty penny.

Gattsu347 03-05-2010 01:22 AM

its not really thread worthy so ill just post a link here me think

I know the part at :20-40 sucks but it makes the part after it sound cooler.

Spaceman Spiff 03-05-2010 01:22 AM

Ive been playing through a Vox AD100VT. It's one of their amp-modeling amps. It has served my quite well, doesn't sound bad at all, but I might as well have all my gear be pro and badass.

I seriously love my guitars. Both are Fenders. As for basses, I've never been a Fender guy. In fact, I don't really want anything by Fender except what I already own... and a Twin Reverb, of course.

My guitars are: Fender Custom Shop Tele
Lee Ranaldo sig. Jazzmaster

I don't really care for Strats, either. The Tele and Jazzmaster are all I could want for guitars. Probably ever.

Gattsu347 03-05-2010 01:23 AM

Bass forum guitar playing moderator strikes again

gaslight 03-05-2010 01:29 AM

I don't love Fender basses either I have to say. If I had a tonne of cash, I'd probably get a vintage P and J just for kicks, but I'm basically wearing holes through the body of my Ibanez SR500. I love that thing, there's enough of my sweat soaked into the wood you could clone me from it.

Vox guitar amps are tasty but the one that I want is far too costly for me.

Spaceman Spiff 03-05-2010 01:33 AM
Bass forum guitar playing moderator strikes again
Lol.

I still play my bass, just not nearly as much. I don't plan on selling it or anything.

I switched to guitar being my main instrument when I got tired of not being in a band for many years. Now I'm in a band I'm stoked about and playing guitar.

hahaha

Everyone got that bass. Hell, that's what I have, too. Only mine is an SR506.

Which amp do you want? If I went for another Vox, I'd get an AC30. Despite never being a Fender man, just these very few things really appeal to me.

If I was still mainly a bassist, I'd probably get myself a 6 string Bongo.

gaslight 03-05-2010 01:37 AM

There's bugger all difference between guitar and bass as far as I'm concerned.

Electric bass / electric guitar / acoustic guitar, if you're gonna play one you may as well get competent at the rest.

I forget the model number of it, it's a ridiculously expensive hand-wired tube combo soldered with the tears of Christ or some ****.

I love my SR500 :), I can't think of anything that I've got similar value for money out of. Got myself an SR706 too, thinking I would have some students with 5 and 6 string basses but, everyone I've ever taught has been on a 4 string so far. I thought 5 strings were the cool thing but ah, what do I know.

Yeah if you're good at piano you can just get on any instrument and be better at it than most people.
