Also, Akerfeldt could stick to clean vox for a DT project, his voice is better than JLB IMO anyway...
Akerfeldt's clean vocals are good, very soothing, but he can't touch JLB in terms of range or power.
I wonder how many musicians commit suicide because of Dream Theater daily?

exactly 3,019 per day.

ghettoeddo 10-15-2006 11:39 AM

i plan to follow suit in a month or so if i can't play the shredding bit in octavarium soon.

Jev 10-15-2006 12:05 PM

Man I've been trying that for about 4 months and failing.

cupcakejazznmetal 10-16-2006 03:11 AM

So i've been listening to alot of softer stuff latley and really like the song hollow years, but its getting repeated alot lol so i was wondering if you smart people could direct me to some similar songs:chug:
Thanx
Steph:thumb:

Jev 10-16-2006 05:42 AM

Well there's nothing really similar to Hollow years but you got some more softer songs that are great like:
Another Day
The Silent Man
Space-Dye Vest (a bit dark, but still great)
Take my Pain Away
The Spirit Carries On
Disappear
The Answer Lies Within.

Jim 10-16-2006 06:54 AM

Another Day is awesome. Sax solo. Ooh yeah.

The Answer Lies Within is pretty good, too.

RockStar 10-16-2006 06:59 AM

So I had the once in a livetime cd but lost it and really really really really need to hear crimson sunrise again :(

Charlie Manson 10-16-2006 08:08 AM

Definetly don't by that "Images and Words" compact disc that was the worst $29.95 I ever spent in my life and I still harbour the grudge.

Charlie Manson 10-16-2006 08:09 AM
Another Day is awesome. Sax solo. Ooh yeah.
Yeah I have to admit the saxophone solo is a good listen.

eug008 10-16-2006 08:13 AM

You heard any other album by DT yet?

$29.95?
That's a bit steep man.

Liquid Fantasy 10-16-2006 01:36 PM

I spent 12 something bucks for my Images and Words.

eug008 10-17-2006 01:53 AM
$29.95?

Australian $. That's about 12 pounds or whatever you use there. Still is expensive for an album I guess, I usually get them for $20 max.

Jim 10-17-2006 03:36 AM

I got mine for $9.99 Australian. JB you've done it again!™

Charlie Manson 10-17-2006 07:33 AM
You heard any other album by DT yet?
nah i'm not risking it. I think listening to images ands words caused my brain to be bored to a level that caused irreversible damage.

jpshortstuff 10-17-2006 07:37 AM

if you're gonna post valid reasons why you don't like DT in here thats fine, but saying shit like that is just pointless and you're just pissing us all off.

I've posted my valid reasons.

* The singer lacks emotion, in both vocal presentation and the lyrical content.
* The drum tracks are very dull and uninspiring. They lack energy and emotion.
* Images and Words is utterly boring and uniteresting, with the exception of the guitar solo's and sax solo in "Another Day".

jpshortstuff 10-17-2006 07:55 AM

right then, was there any reason for:
I think listening to images ands words caused my brain to be bored to a level that caused irreversible damage
the phrase 'looking for a fight' springs to mind. (thats not a very good phrase but you know what i meant)

Charlie Manson 10-17-2006 07:58 AM

Yes Images and Words lacks meaningful content. It's just like 8 or 9 etudes or something. When I pay my hard earned money on a CD I want meaningful content.

jpshortstuff 10-17-2006 08:01 AM

maybe you just not looking hard enough for the meaning.

whatever dude, im not forcing you to like (or even respect) Dream Theater, just don't come in here to trash the band with your unmatched powers of sarcasm and wit.

Chu 10-17-2006 08:01 AM

Hey Plexi

How's things down there?

Charlie Manson 10-17-2006 08:04 AM

not too bad at the moment, although I am a little worse for wear.

jpshortstuff, I don't want a fight so stop picking with me. Find someone else.

jpshortstuff 10-17-2006 08:13 AM

find someone else who comes into this thread and trashes the music/band?? were low on those people atm im afraid.

anywho,
does anyoone know who wrote the lyrics for Another Won, and whether they were written especially for Score or have they played it with vox at some other concerts?

Cain 10-17-2006 08:17 AM
Well, if Akerfeldt replaced JLB, then JP's guitar duties would have to be split with Akerfeldt as well. Also, Akerfeldt could stick to clean vox for a DT project, his voice is better than JLB IMO anyway...
Akerfeldt's compositional sensibility and sense of dynamics is much more highly advanced than John Petrucci's is, besides being completely different.

And he's a much better singer than LaBrie. Still and all, it would not be Dream Theater.

Dude what right did you have to infer that I hadn't found the meaning of the dream theatre songs? What are your credentials as a musician? Well?

jpshortstuff 10-17-2006 09:23 AM

you said yourself that they lacked meaning. i was just throwing the idea that you might try and find a meaning in them out there.

enough of this arguing anyway.

ghettoeddo 10-17-2006 12:55 PM

although i disagree w/ the first part, i agree w/ the second.

i dont want anyone to replace JLB because it just wouldn't be the same

ghettoeddo 10-17-2006 12:57 PM

how does one define "energetic" drum tracks? i listen to portnoy's beats on I&W and i think they're highly energetic.

i think most of the band's energy comes from HIM more than anyone else. and JLB is great on the albums, althouhg he can come off as tired live. but well...try singing 3 hours every night for months at a time. i dont blame them at all.

Probably written by Petrucci, kinda sounds like his style.

And yeah they've played it with vocals before, it's not just for Score.

ghettoeddo 10-17-2006 02:49 PM

i didnt know another won was originally an instrumental

Yes but I'm like 100 times a more better musician than you dt knobs so you should trust my judgement.

ghettoeddo 10-17-2006 08:59 PM

uh...what gives?

prove it.

i really resent that statement...you can't just assume that anyone who listens to DT is automatically a bad musician.

Charlie Manson 10-17-2006 09:35 PM

I'm not saying you're bad musicians, just that I have alot more experience as a musician and alot better techniqual skills. You can sit in your room whacking off to this etudal rubbish all you like. But while you're doing it, the more talented amongst us will be out in the real music world getting paid to play infront of hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people per-year across the whole of our lovely sunburnt country.

I don't understand the point of going into a DT thread to bash the band and claim that you are a better musician then everyone. It just makes you seem like a gigantic douchebag tbh.

ghettoeddo 10-17-2006 09:48 PM

yea what he said.

so justify your "better musicianship" buddy. you have no idea the level of personal musicianship of any of these people in this thread

kingsoby1 10-17-2006 09:51 PM
It just makes you seem like a gigantic douchebag tbh.
Agreed, what an ***... and "more technical" musician doesn't mean "better".

Dream Theater is solid; they were more-so a gateway band into progressive music for me. I don't really listen to them anymore, but I still respect them.
