FunkMetalBass 10-13-2009 09:42 AM

gaslight 10-13-2009 10:32 AM

This 6 stringer is pretty darn fun after all.

Better get me some straplocks for it.
Better get me some straplocks for it.
That's the first thing that I do with EVERY bass that I get.

In other news, I routed the reverse-P pickup cavity a little small, so I'll have to go back over it today and take off about 1/16" from each side (and tighten up the corners). Then she's ready for a paint stripping and a nice black base coat.

gaslight 10-13-2009 10:55 AM

Nice. I probably should have bought them when I picked it up now that I think of it :p. I'd only been awake for like half an hour at the time though.

Nobody's going to stab you for it, but if they aren't on within the first two weeks, no guarantees...

Gawd, I need to sell sh*t. I know I keep saying that, but I hate writing eBay listings.

Epidemechanical 10-13-2009 11:10 AM

i need to get trained and certified to operate a forklift for my new job

Haha well, I won't be using a strap with in until I have the locks so really it could persist indefinitely without them as long as I wasn't putting a strap on it.

And Raayl that's killer dude, it's probably about the same difficulty level as operating a Bobcat (skid loader? whatever).
i need to get trained and certified to operate a forklift for my new job
I can email you a copy of my forklift certification and you can just digitally change the information to your name...

If you want...

Epidemechanical 10-13-2009 11:17 AM

lol no its on the job paid training dude no worries thanks though

plus i actually have no idea how to do it

and i would very much appreciate being instructed

its not operating the thing that is new and scary its loading the trucks that are. its a big puzzle. an art, really.

Epidemechanical 10-13-2009 11:20 AM

and yeah thats what it is its a skid loader

3 levers

tilt

up/down

left/right

the difficult part of the job is navigating the dock with big loads of freight and securing them down into the trailer and loading everything in order and effectively. cramming a whole lotta **** into a tiny space

gaslight 10-13-2009 11:22 AM

That and not crushing people.

Epidemechanical 10-13-2009 11:27 AM

or being crushed lol

but truth be told im not sure what im going to do. they just had me watching videos all last night. pay is GREAT though so thats awesome. 15.56 an hour USD

FunkMetalBass 10-13-2009 11:28 AM

Always make sure you're lifting from the middle position - having the forks to one side and lifting considerably lowers the max lift capacity. Also, it's annoying if you have a big load and need to shift it, only to find out that it already is.

The inching break is your friend.

Tilt back the forks whenever you're carrying a load.

You steer from the back - this will probably be the hardest thing to get used to, but it's extremely helpful when navigating sharp corners.

Driving backwards is really easy.

Nice. That's what I make

Epidemechanical 10-13-2009 11:30 AM

what is the inching break?

is that like the 3/4ths rule

FunkMetalBass 10-13-2009 11:34 AM

The inching break (sometime called the clutch) is what you use to inch forward. It works like a break, but allows you to rev the gas to raise/lower the forks. I use it to slowly coast forward to a load while adjusting my fork height.

oh yeah well i figured as much would exist

a pedal which acts kind of like neutral

Yeah, like neutral with braking capabilities.

Epidemechanical 10-13-2009 11:50 AM

can you actually use it to stop as well or do you have to switch pedals?

FunkMetalBass 10-13-2009 12:04 PM
can you actually use it to stop as well or do you have to switch pedals?
It stops as well. That's why they call it an inching brake - it allows you to slowly release it for "inching" up to the load.

Epidemechanical 10-13-2009 12:09 PM

ahh so its just like a car and creeping on the brake

BenJammin 10-13-2009 01:15 PM

I'm forklift certified, as well.

FunkMetalBass 10-13-2009 02:49 PM

My girlfriend is a huge coffee drinker, so I'm going to get her a custom coffee mug.

"CUP-O-JOE
[my face]

warning: may taste like coffee"

Cramboli 10-13-2009 03:51 PM

That's a good one... I wish I still had my custom mug it was hand made by my uncle and was in the shape of a miniature bass and the handle was a strap...

FunkMetalBass 10-13-2009 04:04 PM

I think I want to sell my 8-string and buy a Dingwall 6-string. God, 37"-33" fanned frets sounds so sexy.

fatbandit 10-13-2009 04:19 PM

good luck selling a custom bass

Cramboli 10-13-2009 04:20 PM

How much?

FunkMetalBass 10-13-2009 04:21 PM
good luck selling a custom bass
Pretty much. Even on TalkBass, I might only be able to get $2k for it, but that would be a stretch, methinks. $1700 and I'd be satisfied.
